Just read that Hornacek got fired from the Suns.  I don’t get this organizaiton at all.  in 2013, the Suns were going for a rebuild/tank type of strategy and openly explained to fans that they were going to give the young guys a lot of PT.  Then they won a few games and then in 2014, seemed to switch to more of a "win now" strategy.  And now, this season, with multiple injuries, it has switched back to play the bench guys and tank.  How much of the problem in Phoenix is the GM Ryan McDonough, and how much was Jeff Hornacek.  I mean, the whole mess with the Morris twins has to be laid at the GM’s feet, doesn’t it?  And the trades, and shift in strategy is not Hornacek’s decision is it?  Strange that Hornacek gets fired, and the GM sails off unscathed.  Any die-hard Phoenix fans out there want to comment?

And who do you guys think will ultimately replace Hornacek?

     Here’s the source from espn:

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14689071/jeff-hornacek-fired-phoenix-suns-continue-lose

Phoenix has been in stuck in the middle of trying to win and rebuild at the same time.  To me this year would be a good time to finally strip down the roster and let these young players in Booker, Goodwin, Warren, Len develop.  I’d assume they would wait till after the season to go after a new coach.  I’m sure they would try to get in on hiring Luke Walton.

     I don’t like it.

Hornacek actually had them overachieving.  Then the Suns traded for and drafted a bunch of point guards, and then traded away them later.  Both Morris players should have been gone.

The Suns are not bad because of Hornacek, it is the ones above him putting the team together, and some of the bad players on the roster.

Fire the management, fire sale of all old players, which would mean Chandler.

This team will tank it like the 76ers and Lakers now, even if the new or interim coach is trying to win.

They have nothing, except for Len and Booker, for real youth.  Knight and Bledsoe, older and more injured and not really building blocks.  Keep one of them.

Who gave away I Thomas, the All-Star?  The same guy who fired Hornacek?

Agreed they have made some questionable moves.  Another guy they could look to move is Teletovic who is on a 1yr/5.5mil contract.  I’d guess there are playoff teams that would like to add a stretch four who is shooting 40% from 3.

It seems unfair for Hornecek giving the state of the team and what he was giving. I think BleedGreen is right that they’ll pursue Walton as their first choice. I wouldn’t dismiss D’Antoni returning (if he’s not coaching Philly), Scott Brooks, or even giving Steve Nash a shot. Either way, Phoenix looks to be attractive because of their personnel, the high draft pick coming, and the reality that they have no way but up from here.

I think for the rest of the season they must continue to give Len all the pt he can handle and work on him reaching his potential. I see them also being sellers at the trade deadline to try and create max cap space for this Summer.

If you want to understand why Phoenix repeatedly fails as an NBA franchise, you don’t have to look much further than their owner, Robert Sarver. Check out his history and you will see a trail of one foolish move after another.

He seems to be one of those people who doesn’t understand the difference between being an owner who hires a GM, Coach, and a staff to run the basketball operations, versus an owner who thinks he can also double as a GM and micro manage the team.

I’m a huge Suns fan I even have a Suns logo tattoo on my right tricep. That being said, I don’t agree with the fire. How can we fire him when markieff is still on the team and the whole core of the team has been injured basically for a couple months. The owner Sarver is who I blame for all the terrible trades and stagnant playing over the last couple of seasons. We’re always at the back end of the lottery so it’s hard to rebuild through the draft and it doesn’t help when he’s calling people millennials, that’s not going to make future free agents come. I’m really hoping for some luck in the lottery this year because we need a cornerstone. Trade kieff for anything, at this point I don’t care if it’s just to someone who can swallow his contract. It’s hard to move forward with a lingering cancer. I think Horny should have at least got to show how he can coach once kieff is gone.

I wonder if sparks a domino effect in Phoenix. Would Morris and Chandler be next to go. What kind of value can they gain from trading those two. Markieffs value seems to be at an all-time low but they should be able to trade Chandler and gain something decent.

The thing with Chandler is that he has 3 years remaining left on his deal after this year and he’s shooting 49% from the field. I think he’ll have suitors but the return might not be as decent as we’re lead to believe. The blame in Phoenix rest solely on the GM McDonaugh and the owner if it’s true that he’s been micro-managing. That Isaiah Thomas trade was baffling, they traded Marcus Morris for a 2nd rounder to clear up space for Aldridge who never came (huh?), signed Chandler to a 4 year deal. There’s a trend here and if I was the owner and someone had to take a fall, it would’ve been McDonough. The thing with McDonough is that he’s a smooth talker almost like a used car salesman. Reminds me of Bryan Colangelo when he was in Toronto. To stuck in his ways and his convictions and Sarver loves assertive people. Man, I used to love watching Suns basketball. They have some really good pieces in Archie Goodwin, Devin Booker and TJ Warren. Hopefully they can build on that.

The Tyson Chandler contract is going to cripple them for the next few years. He is currently 33yo and at final finish date of contract will be 36yo. His best years are behind him and $13 mill per season is just too much. He isn’t exactly an ironman averaging 61 games per season over his past 7.

Young pieces in Booker, Goodwin, Len and Warren. Bledsoe is only 26 and Knight 24yo. Len needs some more time to develop but they should of just got a cheaper vet (like zaza @$5mill) to babysit him for the next season or two.

Next season they should nearly have a decent starting unit (4/5) – Bledsoe/Knight/ Booker, Warren and Len. They just need a good PF which they could target in this years draft (They should have a top 7 pick).

A lot of GM’s get fired before their due date, they should of at least given him till the end of next season….

I love Hornacek as a coach and how he surprised a lot of people with the Suns going 48-34 during his rookie year as coach. It’s not Hornacek’s fault that his team is struggling to win. He has to make the most of what he has in his roster and with all the injuries the team has had, you can’t blame that solely on him. Bad move by the Suns. Horny is getting another coaching gig somewhere. He’s a great coach.
