    Jrue Holiday gets 4-year extension

    Updated: November 1, 2012, 1:54 AM ET

    By Marc Stein | ESPN.com

The Philadelphia 76ers have reached terms on a contract extension with guard Jrue Holiday, the team announced Wednesday night.

Terms were not disclosed by the team, but sources told ESPN.com that the Sixers and Holiday’s camp agreed on a four-year, $41 million deal just before the league’s midnight deadline that will take effect starting next season.

Holiday averaged 13.5 points with 4.5 assists a game last season.

The deal with the Sixers, sources said, includes incentives that could push the overall value of Holiday’s next contract to $46 million.

I know everyone will say he is overpaid…but I think this is what the going rate is now…particularly being that Philly doesnt want to lose their starting PG.  If he didnt get it here, he was gonna get it elsewhere.

    Griffin – 5 year 95M
    Harden – 5 year 80M
    Lawson – 4 year 48M
    Holiday – 4 year 41-46M
    Curry – 4 year 44M
    Derozan – 4 year 41M
    Gibson – 4 year 32-38M

It’ll be interesting to see how much Brandon Jennings and Tyreke Evans command seeing as all their mid-tier buddies got around the same contracts.

I think Jennings and Evans are going to fall right in line with those averages.  I dont see how they wouldnt.  The only question about those guys is…are their current teams willing to keep them?  Its hard to say because they have been amidst so many trade rumors.

I’d rather give Holiday $41 million than give that too Derozan. I feel bad for Raptors fans, but at least they have JV to look forward too

ya man I cant believe they gave derozan this much.. Literally just said to my buddy that I wouldnt give him more than 35 over 4 earlier in the day. Why pay a one dimensional scorer 10 mil a year when he is yet to prove that he can consistently do anything else above average. Do not like this deal at all for the raps.

Everyone elses contracts seem relatively fair. I think denver could be getting a steal in a couple of years

I think they decided to pay derozan 40 over 4 because if they didnt resign and if he had a big year or even just an average year some other team will try to overpay him as a restricted free agent. Just think lets say he does become a 20ppg guy this year some one in the summer (probably the suns) would offer him a 4 year 50+ million deal. I think it’s smart to sign him now it’s a risk but it could pay off since demar has been improving every year and he did show alot during preseason like a more refined post game and he was rebounding better. He had a bad game yesterday but he looked like he was trying to do too much trying to live up to the contract he should just play his game and he’ll do well. He always said he wants to be here and for a raptors fan that’s something we dont hear often lol. I think he could have another good year and average 19ppg 5rpg 1spg.

I live in Toronto now and most of my friends are livelong Raptors fans so I understand the pain of having players not want to be on your team, but you still shouldn’t throw money away like this.

If Derozan cared about defense (maybe this will change under Casey) then his contract wouldn’t be such a stretch, but all he does is score and he doesn’t even do that well, his true shooting percentage last year was under the league average. He made absolutely no improvement from his 2nd to 3rd year either (I’d even argue he regressed).

I  say let another team sign him if they want to waste their money. I guess no point arguing this now though

I’m a Raptors fan and was disappointed that they decided to re-sign him. I was hoping they would see how he did this season and either sign/match him next offseason or let him walk, depending on his progress.

DeRozan, despite his good mid-range game, is a terrible long range shooter. He can’t (or at least doesn’t) defend well. He’s a terrible playmaker/passer. Hid handle needs improvement, though appears a little bit tighter this year. His post game did look much improved during pre-season, and I’m hoping Dwayne Casey can help him improve his defence. His rebounding also looked a little better. He needs to constantly attack the rim and get to the free throw line to earn his contract.

All of that being said, even as DeRozan stands now, he would command a 4 year $40 million contract on the open market, IMO.

I think seeing a few of the other contracts, it shows that market value for solid players is quite high. Taj Gibson, who is a great defensive front court player (I’m a fan), is still a player who has averaged 20 minutes per game over the last two seasons. I think his role will increase moving forward, but it still shows the trend of slight overpayment.

Stephen Curry is a great player, and if he can stay healthy he will be a steal at that price. But I, like most others, worry about his ankle that he has had surgically repaired multiple times. He still appears to be having trouble with the same ankle, as another sprain during pre-season would suggest. And despite being a good ball theif, his defense is below average, IMO. Considering he’s already not overly explosive, continued ankle problems could potentially hurt him moving forward.

Both the Blake Griffin and James Harden deals were sort of no-brainers for their repsective teams. And I think Denver got Ty Lawson at a great price.

Jrue Holiday, like DeRozan, would have got that deal on the open market, even if it does make him slightly overpaid.

All in all, I don’t think any of these deals were horrible. Some a little high, but that is the nature of the game.

I think Jrue will prove his worth this season.  People will just look at his 13/4.5 and think he’s not worth it, but the organization believes in his ability, as does his coach.  He finally gets to control the ball instead of sharing it with 3 other ball-handlers.  What other ball-handler will get in his way now? Evan Turner? Lol.

They overpaid but they have not really been able to atract free agents. They will have to use him at the three and Terance Ross at the 2 though

The other players were fairly compensated. Evans and Jennings will command about the same money

I like this contract for Holiday, I think he has way better game than last years stats indicate, he is still very young, and is a good defender. About 10-11 per season sounds about right.

While DeRozan’s contract is a bit on the high side, i was not expecting it to be all that much lower. If he had gotten onto the open market you know somebody would become enamored with his athleticism and try to sign him to a big contract or a poison pilled one and then the raps would be in even worse shape. I mean look at the contract Tyrus Thomas signed, all he is is athletic and he got a huge contract because of it, so I can forgive BC for this extension.
