Hitster’s 2011 First Round Mock Draft.

    1. Cleveland – Kyrie Irving – despite Cleveland being deep at PG and needing to fill possibly bigger holes at SG and SF, Irving seems to be the consensus choice for them to take. So it’s pointless having them pick someone else, he can learn from Baron Davis and they can look to trade Sessions or Gibson perhaps. The team was 19-63 last year so need to rebuild and getting your long term playmaker in place is a solid move.

    2. T-Wolves – Derrick Williams – their best two players currently play SF and PF but the team has won only 32 games over the last two seasons so have to take BPA. Williams can play around Beasley and Love as the team look to finally stop being barrel scrapers.

    3. Utah – Brandon Knight – I know that Kanter is the favoured choice here but instead I’m going for another Coach Cal one and done boy. Knight is very young and can play off the ball alongside Harris and maybe assume PG duties down the line.

    4. Cleveland – Enes Kanter – Having gone small on the first pick and despite a strong case for taking an SF, they take BPA again and possibly get a long term starting C. Hickson is better at PF and Varejao often plays best from the bench, Jamieson is in his last year so Kanter will get rotation minutes easily.

    5. Toronto – Jan Vesley – It was either Leonard or Vesley but Colangelo likes the European guys and takes the slightly more experienced guy who can help meet their defensive issues.

    6. Washington – Kawhi Leonard – A SF with a 7ft 3ins wingspan will give them perfect perimeter defence. They have their PG and several frontcourt prospects so they take the best SF available and he can defend a number of floor positions.

    7. Sacramento – Kemba Walker – A PG to go alongside Evans has often been touted as their requirement; here they get the chance to take one. They will have a young fast backcourt with Walker able to play around Udrih and Evans for a year or so as well.

    8. Detroit – Jonas Valanciunas – Joe Dumars takes a deep breath and prays “I hope no-one remembers Darko” and drafts Jonas. Seriously they are deep at SF and Monroe is surely better as a PF so they take a long term C who apparently already plays hard and now has Big Ben to help mentor him.

    9. Charlotte – Marcus Morris – Again he seems a decent consensus choice and will help to fill the gap left to Crash Wallace and especially with Diaw now going into his last year.

    10. Milwaukee – Donatas Motiejunas – They have their defensive anchor in Bogut and have Saunders as another prospect but Donatas gives them a finesse big which they perhaps lack and a team that likes Euro guys takes another here.

    11. GSW – Alec Burks – Both GSW backcourters always seem to play heavy minutes so they take a guy who can play around them both. His size gives the teams options and being on an up-tempo team will be good for Burks.

    12. Utah – Klay Thompson – They take an SG/SF to develop alongside Gordon Hayward and to fill a roster space especially if AK47 moves on.

    13. Phoenix – Jimmer Fredette – I have a sneaking feeling they may look to S and T Aaron Brooks but even if he does stay, Nash is going into his last year so they need replacements and with Jimmer and Brooks you have two shots at it.

    14. Houston – Jordan Hamilton – With SF perhaps needing extra depth Hamilton can give Budinger competition for minutes down the road.

    15. Indiana – Tristan Thompson – Larry Bird takes a younger college guy but they have never quite sorted the PF position since JO was traded so take another option here. Also Jeff Foster may move on in off season so a roster space on the frontcourt needs to be filled.

    16. Philly – Bismack Biyombo – I have to put Bismack somewhere in the draft so the 76ers might be an option. Since Dalambert left they have lacked a physical inside presence which Bismack could give them, he complements the more finesse based Hawes and Brand can help him develop,

    17. New York – Markieff Morris – The Knicks need some extra size so take the safest pick they can find from the remaining frontcourters. His upside may not be huge but if he can stay sound and be a solid role player the Knicks will be happy.

    18. Washington – Tobias Harris – Again another seemingly consensus pick so I won’t differ from that and he gives the Wizards a long term SF option and can learn from behind Rashard Lewis.

    19. Charlotte – Chris Singleton – With them having last Crash and Diaw in his last year like with the 9th pick, Charlotte try to fill a hole. Singleton is a very good defender and could become an unsung glue type guy for them.

    20. T-Wolves – Davis Bertans – With so many youngsters on the roster, Kahn decides to draft a European stasher who he can keep abroad.

    21. Portland – Kenneth Faried – With so many frontcourt injuries they take a frontcourt workhorse who can play around the bigger names.

    22. Denver – Kyle Singler – For a team without a star they stick to their new team ethic and take a proven college guy who can give them depth at a couple of positions.

    23. Houston – Josh Selby – With the team looking to rebuild they take the freshmen with the most remaining upside in the draft.

    24. Thunder – Darius Morris – They take a young back up PG who can take a few minutes off Russell Westbrook when required.

    25. Celtics – Tyler Honeycutt – Both Paul Pierce and Ray Allen are not getting any younger so a SG/SF combo player fits in with younger Celtics like Bradley and Green etc.

    26. Dallas – Marshon Brooks – Jason Terry isn’t getting any younger so they take a younger SG option to bring along slowly.

    27. New Jersey – Jeremy Tyler – The Nets may well look to sign a big name PF via FA but Tyler’s wingspan and upside is worth a gamble here. Also his rebounding may be useful alongside Brook Lopez.

    28. Chicago – Trey Tompkins – They take an offensive based big man who they can look to fit into the roster in due course.

    29. Spurs – Shelvin Mack – Can give them bench scoring maybe look to help lighten Ginobli’s workload in due course.

    30. Chicago – Nolan Smith – Experienced NCAA winner who can fit into the Chicago system and become part of the backcourt rotation around D-Rose.
