Hinkie’s last year in Houston he played a big role in assembling a Rockets team that lead the NBA in both 3pt field goals and shots within 3ft of the basket attempted. Is that what analytics is all about?

At this point it seems like his team in Philadelphia is much more fast break oriented and was wondering at what point does he start to bring in some pure shooters that can knock down shots beyond the arc. I understand he has still had limited time and could easily do that this draft.

That being said I think Wiggins at 3…Lavine at 10…and use T Young and our 2nd round picks to move back up into the first to grab Pj Hairston who I don’t think is that great at creating his own shot off the dribble but in terms of knock down shooters in this draft..he is second to none..extremely quick release.

The pace that the Sixers play is not necessarily how they will always play. It is a way to get maximum opportunity to evaluate the players. Once the team has a higher degree of talent they may very well slow down again.

Analytics is about playing efficiently and finding the most efficient way to score and defend. The advanced stats tell you what things players do well and what they need to improve on. Something as basic as shooting percentage doesn’t tell you very much because not all shots have the same degree of difficulty.

I think that a big part of it is identifying the right role players. The great players are what they are, but finding the right pieces around them takes precision.

I feel like their not in a position to do anything like that right now I think hinkie feels that way to from what I read.

he cant apply a system to a team who has little talent and no players to fit that system brett brown is a defensive coach so who knows what the direction they go on little defense was played this season for the sixers or in Houston(harden) because players are to tired from the uptempo style to even play hard on d and its worse if you suck on d (pause) as it is. the sixers wanted to run this season because they had little to no half court offense outside of pick and roll.
Its a lot of different ways this team can go but him adding a bunch of shooters without even having a core is backwards.
I do think hinkie will try to get some 3 point specialist later on and even tho brett brown isn’t big on analytics he not afraid to use any weapon he can and he seen the 3 ball work for the spurs and the way they plug in role players that he helped develop.
right now its just about them getting the players only thing they have to build on is mcw nobody else played a nba game for them yet. I like allonzo treir, jaylen brown, thon maker. it will be interesting to keep an eye on this year college season because this next 15 draft doesn’t seem to be as high upside as 14 or 16 looks but I think they can add a nice player.

once they get a few prospects and develop them then apply shooters and role players and schemes to fit their key players.
they said they have a 5 year window to rebuild now its a 4 year window. I think that hinkie will use advance stats to draft players of course but as far as brining 3 point shooters because its a more valuable shot? I don’t think the sixers are to into right now

Dude, I’ve seen every post you write, you’re one of those people (and there seems to be way too many of those nowadays) who has trouble distinguishing between they’re,  their, and there.  And also, your and you’re.   Not to make such a big deal out of it because I understand that some of us do have limited literacy,  but c’mon now,  it gets annoying after a while to see you people chop the beautiful English language into pieces.   (and I’m Chinese,  btw).

quite frankly was all about losing and figuring out whether Thad, Spencer and Turner held any long term value. Plus they were hoping to find a rotation player or two on the cheap. They may have unearthed one in Wroten, James Anderson or Elliot Williams. I think they’ll add at least one shooter in this draft, but probably in the second round. Hinkie said this was going to be a long process, but I don’t think he meant 5 years.

brett brown signed on for (4 )years so he can have the job security to see this all the way through

most rebuild like this total overhauls takes 3-4 years to get the players(gsw)(CLE)(Portland)
and its a lot of bumps in that road unless you are lucky as okc in do it in 3 then not only do you have to make the play offs you have to get into the second round to be considered legit.

It’s pretty amazing how the all the negs that people recieved on this thread (when they commented against Awight) came within a 45 minute period, when the thread lasted for several days. Did the little grammar crybaby start creating fake accounts in order to neg because he was mad?….Nothing would make me happier then challenging you to create 50 more accounts and take me down to zero points. I’m here for info and discussion. I’m not trying to get voted NBADRAFT.net  prom king, so please have fun and waste some more of your week. I already stole 45 minutes.

You, my friend,  are the one that’s ignorant.   First of all, you don’t even know who I really am, and what my history is on here.  You assume that I’m in China or that I have no God-given rights to come on to "a site for US Bball", as if I’m not an Asian-American and I don’t know about this site.  You know you wouldn’t have started this argument with me if I didn’t throw out there the fact that I’m Chinese.

Secondly, you really don’t know where "AwrightAwrightAwright" came from ?  Or you’re just feigning ignorance on this one too ??  If you really don’t know,  then let me clue you in:  go Google "alright alright alright kevin hart" and "alright alright alright kevin Matthew McConaugh".  I just changed the "l" to a "w" to make it slang as a play on word to make it my nick.

Why does every time somebody say they’re of a certain ethnic background, ignorant people like you automatically assume they’re from that country rather than being an American of that certain ethnic background ?  May the Lord forgive your ignorance for attacking me because I said that I’m Chinese and only cared about the slow death of American literacy because I love this country and how other people in the world view our intellectual decline.  God Bless You, my brother.

OK, back to basketball. Arguing that analytics guys go only for 3’s and layups is sort of an understatement.

What the Rocket’s D-league team did with that "Only 3’s and layups" thing was just for the love of sports analytics, that is not going to be used in the NBA any time soon. All offensive sets must include several options (yes, including the "inefficient" midrange shots); otherwise offense becomes predictable.
