rtbtParticipantOne thing that’s amazed me in this series is the fact that OKC doesn’t box out. They stand around and watch the shot, which allows Miami players an unobstructed path to the rim for easy offensive rebounds.
With the size of OKC they should dominate the boards, but in both of their losses, Miami outrebounded the Thunder. It wasn’t a massive edge but enough to make a difference. There’s no excuse for OKC giving up so many offensive rebounds.
Watch those rebounding totals and if OKC wins the battle of the boards, I’m betting they’ll win the game.

avavalisParticipantI think it has something to do with the help defense on LBJ and DWade.A player gone to help guarding LBJ loses track of his own assignment and it’s difficult to box out effectively.

rtbtParticipantYes avavalis, help defense is part of the equation but it’s only one component and every team faces that same issue. However, if you’re guarding LeBron or Wade and the shot goes up, you must block them out because they’re so aggressive on the offensive end. Unfortunately, OKC defenders stand there like statues watching the ball while LeBron and Wade take advantage of that opportunity big time with a clear path to the rim.
And as I mentioned in my initial post, OKC has a signifcant size advantage so they should be dominating the boards but they’re losing the rebounding battle. And that’s been enough to help make the difference in favor of Miami.

SubZeroParticipantAnybody else see that flop by Lebron on that pick on Fisher? I doubt Fisher could knock him over that easily

King CaluchaParticipantThere was another one from Lebron. I think it was with Harden. They both were getting physical, Lebron pushed Harden 2-3 times, then Harden pushes Lebron with WAY LESS intensity (only once), Lebron falls down and a foul is called.

rtbtParticipantIt happened again. OKC was down by 3 with less than 20 seconds to go and Wade missed a critical shot. But instead of getting the rebound, OKC did NOT block out and it became a jump ball which they lost.
If there was a block out on Haslem and a rebound on Wade’s miss, OKC would have a shot at tying the game up.
Finally, Miami won the battle of the boards again. Not by a lot, but it was only a 5 point game so that was one of several key factors in their win.
