The Heat to me are still the team to beat.  I know there is all this talk about the Thunder and the Pacers and rightfully so.  The Heat though when they put the foot on the gas they still look unstoppable.  Spoelstra really does a nice job with the rotations, his coaching ability has really developed.  With the inside presence that birdman and Oden can provide on defense they look even better.  Oden is obviously a wild card but he looks good and can even score some down low.  If he can simply play limited minutes and play well the combo of him and birdman can definitely get it done.  I saw a previous post about Bosh not being a good fit which to me is absurd.  His unselfishness and willing to be the 3rd guy really exhibits a great team player.  He also seems like his jump shot gets better by the day.  He pulls other bigs out of the paint leaving lanes for Lebron and Wade to slash.  I think what this squad needs to realize is he is their second best player.  He should be the second option, with Wade’s minutes being limited to keep him fresh.  Moving forward I see no reason for this squad to be broken up.  Bosh and Lebron can be a deadly duo for more years to come and they have a good vibe with coach Spoelstra.  I really think the odd man out here is Wade.  Now this is tough as he is Mr. Miami Heat.  I think it would be real classy if Wade would take less money realizing that going forward he is no longer a top 5 player in the league.  If he would take significantly less, and Bosh and Lebron take a little less they would be able to bring in more talent.  All this talk of this squad being broken up should be put to rest, they really do have the making of a true dynasty.

I agree. Until they are beaten and as long as they keep their core team together and stay healthy they are definitely still the team to beat. I do think Indiana and OKC both have legitimate chances of beating them this year but they are still the favorite.

Sometimes though it’s not about who has the best team, as a lot of luck and situationals have to play out for a team to win a championship. With the exception of a couple of Wade injuries, and Bosh two years ago, The Heat have been by far the healthiest team in the league. Their good health, combined with the home court advantage has really helped them out when they have gotten into bad spots in the past (Game 7’s in last years playoffs, and game 7 against BOS for example). This year seems like the Heat won’t have these things going for them as much, so it should be interesting to see how they respond. Can the Heat beat the Pacers and Thunder? Certainly, but can they beat both of them on the road in the same playoffs?

I do agree with your comments on Bosh though. I have never liked Bosh, but I think it’s obvious to any basketball fan who has watched the Heat, that Bosh the second most important player on that team. You mentioned his offense, but it’s also his defense which allows MIA to do all that trapping and scrambling. He’s a quick player who guards the pick and roll very well, and that can’t be over looked in a league were more than 50% of the plays are pick-and-roll.

I didn’t think the same way before Oden played. Now, I don’t think it’s even fair. The NBA is screwed and I’m not joking.
