Hawks Match Offer for Teague

Just seen this on yahoo sports.

Great move by the hawks (finally) 4years 32mil isn't a bad deal for an emerging point guard. Had a nice season last year with 14.6 points and 7.2 assists.

Very nice, glad to see

Very nice, glad to see Atlanta didn't try for Jennings. Teague is much more consistent albeit not as explosive.

As a hawks fan, I love it.

As a hawks fan, I love it. Thank Godthey didn't go after Jennings or Ellis. Milsap was also a cheap signing. The only mistake I see them having made is way overpaying Krover.

This may be a dumb question

This may be a dumb question but why do teams match contracts when a player has openly said he doesn't want to go back??? same thing with eric gordon last season...

Did Teague say he didn't want to go back to ATL?

Yeah -

Yeah - http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2013/07/jeff-teague-hopes-hawks-don...

I understand the whole idea of not letting your assets leave without getting anything in return and trying to do a sign and trade... but ATL has all intentions to keep him. Same with New Orleans last year. You know that the player would rather be somewhere else, is that something you want within your organization/team?

It really doesn't matter what

It really doesn't matter what he wants. He can't tell the Hawks not to match. If he really wanted out, he could've refused to sign an extension and played on the qualifying offer so that he could be unrestricted next yr.

Benny...

If after bringing in Teague the Hawks find that it's a situation thats not working out they can at least get some value in return for him. Milwaukee did the Hawks a favor pointing out to the league that he's better to have on a roster than either Monta Ellis or Brandon Jennings by signing Teague to the offer sheet.

If a player is that desperate

If a player is that desperate to leave, he needs to just take a one year qualifying deal from his team then walk but he cannot expect to sign a nice deal and then hope it won't be matched. He cannot have the best of both worlds, still a good resigning by Danny Ferry.
