I love the Pacers but from this point on I feel what ever team Jabari Parker goes to will be the one I follow. I just am amazed by the way he plays the game and havn’t been this excited about a playdr entering the league since Carmelo and Lebron in 2003.

Have any of you guys grown up a fan of one team and changed? (I live in NZ so not as though I have a local team)

I never lose support of my home team but if there is a player I’m a fan of, i start to pay more attention to the team they are on.

How long have you been a basketball fan? I was raised on Minnesota sports teams, and there’s no way I could change support, even now that I’ve moved to California. Following players is another story though…every kid in the 90’s loved Jordan, and unless he was beating your team, you wanted to him succeed. Being that you’re from New Zealand (?) its easy to see how you might drop the Pacers for Parker’s new team..doesn’t make you less of a fan..if anything it allows you to avoid the emotional beating 29 fanbases go through every season. I love LeBron as a player, but if he loses its no big deal..25 years of mediocrity–now that is real pain.

Im from New Zealand too. My team will always be the Bulls. Favourite player of all time is Scottie Pippen so obviously I supported him in Houston and Portland, and there are a lot of players I enjoyed watching over the years, but when they played the Bulls I will always back the Bulls.

I do support the Thunder. But I always support Bulls first. I always want Steven to do really well even against the Bulls, but only as long as the Bulls win.

I have been a fan since 2000 and that was of the Reggie Miller Pacers. When he left I was more following Dirk and Dallas, but have and will always be a Pacers fan. I don’t think I will ever not be a Pacers fan, however I just like this Parker kid. The Pacers will always be a team I back, just potentially not against Parkers team. It’s also hard backing the small market teams when yiu never see them unless they are playing really good.

There seems to be more and more Kiwi’s on here all the time. I wonder how much Steven Adams has got to do with that.

I start out being a Laker supporter but only as kid. When I started to really get into basketball Brandon Roy became my favourite player and I have followed the Blazers ever since.

Sidenote: I found out that Jabari Parker is half Samoan about a week ago.

haha just jk. I reckon we’ll start seeing an average of 1 aussie or kiwi per draft moving forward. Producing legit talent.

I reckon Kirk Penny could have played NBA in his hayday.

I agree about Kirk Penny. Although I don’t know of any Kiwi’s in the near future with NBA talent. All the Aussie talents have Fathers that played and there are a few of them so I can see at least 1 Aussie per draft.

I have always been a Sixers fan but when the Magic had Shaq and Penny and the Sixers sucked when I was younger I considered my favorite team the Orlando Magic…now that I am older and wiser I realize that is what would be considered a band wagon fan but at the time I didn’t care.

Even 26 L’s in a row can’t keep the Sixers from being my favorite team anymore…although my dad did replace his Sixers liscense plate with some other generic one this year….

I’ve never had a true favorite NBA team so yes. I usually just root for my favorite players teams. It started with the Bucks (Desmond Mason), then the Suns (Amare), then the Bulls (D-Rose) and I don’t even have a team I like most right now.

haha being a supporter is like being in a marriage. You have to accept what comes with your team through both good times and bad times. Being a fan is not always about winning… it’s about passion.

I stick by my team through thick and thin, even if Joe Dumars signs cancers in Josh Smith and Jennings plus trading away our lotto pick.

It just means i watch less Pistons games during the season (or just download the games they actually win)
