Hate for LeBron

Recently as I’ve been surfing the NBA forums as I so often do, I’ve grown more and more tired of the LeBron hate. I’ll be the first to admit that I lost respect for him for how he handled his free agency. I wrote a 4 page note about that already. But now it almost seems like people are hating for entirely different reasons than I had thought before. I think present/past NBA players might actually be ragging on the Heat and LeBron out of fear of what they may accomplish along with a hint of jealousy, rather than what has transpired this offseason.

That’s just a theory. What is fact is that the media and NBA fans (minus Laker/Kobe fans) have done a 180 degree turn as far as LeBron goes. Hailed as the new best player throughout much of the past 2 seasons by media and fans, and the near unanimous MVP both years, LeBron is now described as a second fiddle, suddenly far from Kobe and Wade as far as talent goes. Let me assure you that though the Miami Heat may be Wade’s team, LeBron will be the best player on that team. It is LeBron, not Wade, who has won back to back MVPs. LeBron, not Wade who has led his terrible supporting cast to the best record in the NBA two years in a row. And it is LeBron, not Wade, who will lead the Miami Heat this year. Not to take anything away from Wade, but LeBron is just the better player, albeit the difference is slight.

What irks me the most is this incredibly false assumption that LeBron fades away in the playoffs, or that he is not a clutch player. Though he might not have the “killer instinct” Kobe has, LeBron has thoroughly outperformed him individually in the playoffs the last 2 years, and in the end of playoff games. People point to LeBron’s game five against the Celtics this year -- What they fail to realize is this is literally LeBron’s only truly poor game in the playoffs of the last 2 years. Compare that game 5 to Kobe’s GAME 7 OF THE NBA FINALS ; LeBron’s game was no worse.

People will then point to Kobe again, saying he’s the one to make the buzzer beater everytime...Well, the way I remember it, the 2 chances Kobe had to win games at the buzzer in the 09-10 playoffs, he missed and was bailed out by Pau Gasol and Ron Artest. He shot below 40% against the Thunder and right at 40% against the Celtics, the 2 teams that gave the Lakers trouble. Kobe never shot above 50% in a single game of the finals, and shot belowa combined 35% in the games the Lakers won.

Meanwhile, LeBron shot over 50% in this years playoffs while scoring more points, averaged 3 more rebounds, and 4 more assists. The year before, he averaged 35ppg, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists while shooting over 50%.  Some may argue that it’s because LeBron is asked to do more. Well if that’s the case, how come he can produce at a higher level while being more efficient than Kobe, even though he is surrounded by far worse teammates?

LeBron catching flak for his decision is inevitable, along with comparisons to Kobe. But guys, LeBron isn't Kobe. Personally, I'd rather have a guy who is going to produce at a higher and more efficient level for 48 minutes then a guy who produces at a lower rate but can sometimes hit a game winner. I'd especially rather have this guy if I already have Dwyane Wade. LeBron’s just as likely to pass to the open teammate in the last 5 seconds as to shoot, if not moreso. If that, qualifies him as not having a “killer instinct,” then so be it, but to me, the stats tell the story.
Check out this link --->http://www.82games.com/0910/CSORT11.HTM

In conclusion, everyone can have their opinions about LeBron as a person, but don't let that haze your opinion of him as a player. He won 66 games with Williams and Varejao. You honestly think 72 is out of the question with Wade and Bosh?

I agree with Charles Barkley

I agree with Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen. He used to be a liked NBA player, but in the past year or two, he's been a classless douche. He's danced on the sidelines during games, didn't shake anyone's hand when losing to the Magic in the conference finals in '09, and the 1 hour special about which team he wanted to play for was so classless it wasn't even funny. I understand his decision, he had the right to go where he wanted, but its the way he left that just makes me hate him more. If you look at big Z, he wrote a letter to Cleveland saying he loves Cleveland but he thinks Miami is the best way to win an NBA championship. That's why Z will be cheered for in Cleveland and LeBron won't.

Lebron has always been who he

Lebron has always been who he is but since he made a decision that many did not like, he is a villain. Lebron will be the most versatile player on his team and arguably the best regardless of what people say about his legacy. His legacy will be better than Barkley's and Reggie Miller's and maybe even Pippens if he can get at least 4 rings on the Miami heat. His stats will be better than Wades all around.

Kobe was hurt and playing with one arm and one leg so he did play poorly in those playoff games and also I would rather had a guy play terrible but score for the win in the final minutes all day. Most games no matter how good a player plays will end pretty close so would you rather a person get good stats and maybe not finish as great or one that plays bad stat wise but finishes game. The 4th quarter and is one of the most important quarters in basketball unless the game is a blow out.

Barkley was a player I used

Barkley was a player I used to respect and I respect him as a player but not a person. He does and say more stuff than Lebron has ever done but people laugh when Barkley does it but get mad a Lebron.

Barkley did not even have the greatest work ethic because I remember Scottie Pippen calling him out on that.

If Artest wins two more rings, I will even put Artest above Barkley.

Does Barkley seriously believe he can take Lebron James.

Let's be real for a second

Lebron ruined his image

A year ago, many analysts were comparing Lebron to Jordan, asking who was better. Frankly, that doesn't even apply now, The reason why Jordan became so famous was because he had a charisma about him beside being a great basketball player that drew kids and adults to look up to him and even be like him.Especially, in Space Jam Jordan showed his funny side and personality. I really don't even know if Lebron has a fun side that can relate to anybody else. Have you seen one kid say that they looked up to Lebron and wanted to be like him? Nobody can deny that Lebron is a talented basketball player, but what makes basketball players great is not all about winning, its also there personality.

Yeah. I definitely see why

Yeah. I definitely see why one would have lost respect for LeBron as a person. But not as a player. And that's what it seems like...

Yeah that's what everyone's saying. LeBron is an amazing basketball player, but he's an ass as a person.

I am Lakers fan and I always

I am Lakers fan and I always even on here talked about how that was crazy and that Lebron was not better than Kobe now all of a sudden because he pissed people off, Lebron has lost this status. If he had it to begin with, then how could he lose it. I am not that mad at Lebron because I knew who he really was and despite his personal decisions he is a great player.

Lebron is not the only player

Lebron is not the only player that has an ego, that show was not the smartest idea but seriously compare to what other players have done, is it really that bad. He pissed off the media as did Wade and Bosh so the media is riling you guys up to hate on Bron. If the media would support Lebron some of you guys would not even be as mad. You would make excuses just like the hand shake thing.

I was saying that stuff Reke

I was saying that stuff Reke was saying before all this Miami stuff went down. You don;t hear about kids doing a tight move and saying lebron. They may say Kobe or Jordan but not Lebron. Lebron is a gifted player but he has not signature move that is legal.

I have to say I agree with

I have to say I agree with sheltwon on everything he said in his 1st two posts except about Artest...

It does not matter if the way he handled his free agency was a stupid idea BECAUSE IT IS OVER NOW...
Everyone keeps whining and getting pissed about how he did not shake hands after a game and how they felt the 1 hour show was tacky and stupid, and I can understand not liking those things but can we please just get over it. If you do not like Lebron anymore then just leave it at that, and if you do then that’s fine as well, but I really hope everyone drops these topics soon.

Yeah, but LeBron made it to

Yeah, but LeBron made it to the finals, and the conference finals, and semi-finals. Bosh never did. The Raptors have always sucked, that's why Bosh left.

The media's not just saying

The media's not just saying it was a bad decision. Most analysts and broadcasters are saying he did nothing wrong. I'm not mad at him for going to Miami. He's just classless to me. Thats why I hate him. I could care less about who he signed with.

I look up to guys like Derek

I look up to guys like Derek Fisher and Big Z but I look down on guys like LeBron and Ron Artest personality wise. It took LeBron weeks to thank Cleveland fans but only a few days for Z to thank them.

well i stopped reading

after you said lebron would lead the heat
NO, unless they don't want to win
this is wade's team, and wade will be the best player on that team
wade will provide the leadership, and should be taking the last shot or making the final play
wade has done more than lebron in my opinion...he did just as well against the celtics last year in my opinion with an even WORSE team than lebron
lebron copped out, it's that simple
wade comes out the man in this one

@BasketBalAllan You're

@BasketBalAllan

You're right. It's over with and people do need to move on. That doesn't mean they will though.

LeBron is arguably the most popular athlete in the world and his free-agency was highly anticipated for a few seasons. That's all we heard about and LeBron milked it as well. He was the most coveted free-agent in NBA history... Teams were literally giving away players just to have a shot at him. The Bulls gave away a pretty damn good player in Hinrich. We all know what the Knicks did to have a shot at him. Did you really expect his decision, the fallout, etc to die down in just a couple of months? It's still pretty fresh. When the two-time MVP of the league switches teams on an one hour special, it's going to be talked about for quite awhile. His free-agency was a circus.

And I want to apologize to you for calling you a moron in the other thread. I tried to go back and edit my post to say what you said was moronic, instead of you being a moron, but it wouldn't let me. Anyway... For what it's worth. I apologize for that!

Eh, I think LeBron is being a little bit of a diva BUT we don't remember the past when other players did terrible things. We don't remember when guys wanted more money or when other players did things.

I say, LeBron did what he wanted and it's all said and done. People saying he's the #2 option and he's not a great player anymore is BS.

He purchased all this ill

He purchased all this ill will with his actions and words. He is a attention whore. He doesn't know when to shut up,he makes himself look immature. Now to your points you made about the playoff statistics, the only stat in the playoffs that matters is W's and L's. Lebron has those stats because thats how the team is set up,he makes every play, and they live and die with that. Other offenses in the NBA (besides Atl) are meant for more than one person to make plays and score. Now if Miami wins multiple titles its a good move, all the bandwagon fans will cheer and say I told you so and the media will re-annoit him as king of all sports. My question to everyone is what happens if they don't win and win big. What if it blows up????

What actions? He didn't tell ESPN he wanted to do the Descion. Jim Gray came to him. Correct me if I'm wrong, how many interviews has he done since the Miami thing? How many times have we seen him out trying to get attention. He didn't even wanted to get interviewed at the Team USA game because he wanted to just lay low.

I understand he looks "Immature" but craving attention? really?!?

You know I actually disagree with you. People looked up to Jordan because he was great, not because he was a charismatic person. To me MJ comes off as kind of a dick. I think the very attributes that made him greatest player of all time(his competitiveness, drive, even his ego) also made him a not very likable person. Just look at his hall of fame speech.

In contrast, by all accounts Lebron's teammates like him. Aside from his admittedly large ego, he has always come across as very friendly to me. I think that is part of the reason that he will never be as good as Jordan is because he lacks that intensity. Lebron will never punch his teammates in practice because he just isn't that kind of person.

I guess my point is that being a great basketball player and being charismatic often don't go hand in hand. Jordan is a great basketball player but by all accounts not a great person.

Good article, I agree Lebron

Good article, I agree Lebron dominated games but when his team loses they point the finger at him.
When Kobe lost to the Suns twice or to the Celtics in the Finals everyone said it was the supporting cast.
Seems like a double standard there, now Lebron has no excuses if he comes up short.
He's got a team with great players he needs to win multiple rings now.

He can handle the pat on the

He can handle the pat on the back and the overly loving and down right ball licking he gets from abc/espn. But when it gets tough he can't handle it. So people don't like him,now he has to tweet that he is taking names and remembering??? So i guess every other real superstar has never been viewed as the bad guy to people for what he has done, how he left, what he has said or done. Stop defending a guy who creates bad pub for himself and then cries about it.

and to nyk2010 i think you have things a lil mixed up,when the lakers lost blame was given to Kobe for not trusting his team,or that they were being out worked and puked.
When Lbj lost these past 2 years his supporting cast has been blamed. Many folks on this board call those guys bums and scrap players.

"Lebron has those stats because thats how the team is set up,he makes every play, and they live and die with that."

Who in the league makes plays like Lebron James dude puts up video game stats, its going to be intresting to see how he adjusts his game... He had a crazy game vs the Celtics and he was critcized for quiting in game 6... 27 pts 19 rebs 10 asst (If a player has the stat line his team should win unless his supporting cast sucks).. Lebron James and D Wade is going to be disgusting (who cares who is a better player or whos team it is).. Lebron James is getting soo much HATE, he might be my new favorite player (I wasnt even a big fan)... I think people are crazy for not thinking he could play with Wade and Bosh, hes got one of the highest basketball IQs ever.. If teams didnt like James dancing on the side lines (do something about it, like WIN)... NEXT YEAR expect a triple double or something close to a triple double...

I find it funny after the

I find it funny after the fact people venom/distain about the Decision. Cause I don't recall anyone... anyone having a problem with this hour long special the couple of days leading up to it. And by the way, the same people criticizing the hour long special are probably the same people that watched every minute of it. If anything people were salivating to find out where he was going to go. Now it's used as ammo against LBJ, Really! Cut it out, call it for what it is, people are just mad he did not come to your city, and you felt like you got jerked around by LBJ. Let's keep it 100 Knicks, Bulls, Cleveland, Nets, Miami, Ect.. fans felt like he was coming to your city, and he didn't so now that's one reason he's a dbag. Right after he said South Beach it didn't matter what he said, people were left with a bad taste and regardless what James said or done would be used against him. Just say you hate him and call it a day.
