rtbtParticipantI try to search for guys who might be overlooked by others. In yesterday’s game two players caught my eye.
Hassan Whiteside blocked 5 shots! He didn’t do much on offense but that’s quite a start on the defensive end of the court.
Mike Gansey shot 5 for 6, with 3 out of 3 from the three point line. Gansey, who went to WV, was a guy I thought belonged in the NBA. He originally signed with Miami but suffered a serious illness which ended his rookie season. Maybe Miami will once again consider adding him to their roster?

mini_marzParticipanti think that anyone who really watches college ball will remember gansey ( and pittsnogel) gansey can play… he has deep range is smart, makes the right decisions… not very athletic but will give it his all on defence and if i remember right he got a bunch of steals when he was in college… i think at the very least he belongs on a roster… especially Miami since they need spots filled…. thinkin that he could be a good role player

rtbtParticipantmini_marz, I think Gansey is another guy who is hit with that “not very athletic” description which I think is unfair. He is a pretty good athlete.
Something else you left out, I believe he was a much better rebounder than the 6 ft. 11 inch Pittsnogel. I might be wrong but I think Gansey was the leading rebounder on WV. The much taller Pittsnogel averaged a meager 2 rpg, which was pathetic for a guy his size.

mini_marzParticipanthe is just a competiter… pitts spent way to much time on the perimeter… but gansey being able to rebound… proving the point he needs to be on someones roster lol…

doubledribblerParticipantI think Gasney is just another example of a guy that should be in the league, but for whatever reason he isn’t. I’m not sure if it has to do with athleticism or the fact that he’s not one of those workout wonders. The guy is a really smart player, he can hit open shots and typically makes the right plays. To me sounds a lot like Coby Karl. Another guy that should at least be on someone’s roster. Part of the problem might be that a lot of teams usually make their end of the bench guys, people with “high potential.” Usually guys that have low IQs, but a ton of physical tools, but typically never pan out.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantI was watching the Kings summer league game yesterday was surprised to hear 1 of the Maloof brothers say they were thinking about drafting Whiteside at number 5…Those comparisons to Marcus Camby are right on the money..If he gets the minutes he could easily lead the league in blocks…
And there were alot of people that thought Gansey should’ve been a 1st round pick..His family and agent threw him a big draft-day party and several television crews were there..Everyone was expecting him to go 1st round..I can just imagine the disappointment & heartbreak in that room when he didnt get drafted..

Wow! That was one of the best observations I’ve seen on NBADraft.net in a long time.
Thanks DoubleDribbler
Rudeboy1000, I agree with your comment, many people thought Gansey deserved to be a late first round draft choice and I was one of them.
As for Whiteside, I don’t care what the level of competition is, blocking 5 shots is something that gets my attention big time. Almost every team can use somebody to protect the basket.

CameronParticipantAlways liked Gansey in college. Hopefully he finds a spot in the league.

stanford hoopsYea I think he’s comparable to camby on defense. Not offense though

Meditated StatesParticipantHe can give you a little back up point and two guard. Has the range and the IQ. Not a beast on D, but he will give an all out effort. Not a freak athelete, but he is a better one than JJRedick

JNixonParticipantHassan Whiteside is more like Samuel Dalembert. He’s not as good offensively as Camby, but he shows an inconsistent mid-range game and raw back to basket game that Dalembert does. Also, Dalembert is a big-time shot-blocker too.

BriguyParticipant.. but 2 were very questionable could have been up to 7 blocks .. the kid can defend the rim. I saw he was very disappointed no plays were called for him .. hopefully he learns to understand his role for now and play and earn your minutes and touches, not let it bring him down and cause trouble for him and his team.
As long as the Kings don’t send him to D League and keep playing him .. hell develop … then again D- League might help him get more Offensive touches .. dunno tho hard to take shots from Evans or Cousins right now ..
