Has anyone on here ever played D1 college basketball?
I could only get opportunities at D2 and NAIA schools. "We like your decision making and shooting, but you are too skinny to guard and we are concerned about your athleticism" was the general consensus. Boo-hoo sob story and such!
I think Quincey and IndianaBasketball have.
wow...so i guess you lived my life and not me. there was an assistant from emporia st. at an open gym i was playing in. he watched me a few times and extended an offer. i did not live in a big city or anything like that. i was not that great, just playing well against some older kids and he thought i could develop. but hey, you were there and not me...
for one year, then played club soccer at WIU for the next three. The only thing I was a prospect for was being the white 5'10, 53 overall guard on NCAA March Madness video game lol
cheese and crackers dan you get pissed off at me even when i dont say anything...do you guys know what he said to me on facebook?
"I'm gonna name my kid McDunkin...just so i can beat him everyday"
thats it...no subject and no reply...
Played ACBL baseball, but stopped really growing in HS and never developed enough height to get looked at for D1 basketball. Was considering playing at Gettysburg college, but opted to attend PITT for its CBA program. I wasn't going pro playing ball regardless, might as well committ myself to studies at a more prestigious university.
Thats not generally how u get an offer but watever man. Typically a recruiter or assistant is gonna want to see you display some consistency. And even if he does see you and he likes you game, he isnt gonna throw an offer to a 10th grader after seing him play in one game, in an open gym none the less.
Maybe its true, but my gut and brain are putting up a good fight thinkin it aint.
Did u take the offer? If not, why not?
the offer went like this....mind you 17 years ago, i had no clue who the guy was walking up to me at the end of the open gym. i was heading for the door. he says something along the lines of "i like your game. are planning on playing for the team (high school team) this year?" i said something dumbfounded like "yeah i guess." he says he will be watching me. he was back for a couple of other open gyms. i was playing against some juniors and seniors, mostly not good basketball players, more football players than anything. so, i probably looked better than i actually was. dunking on football players who thought they were monsters of men was always fun. anyhow, after the third time the emporia st. assistant coach talked to me he said something about how he liked my game, wanted to get the best players they could from in state, realized it was still a few years away and things can change and so on...he said if you want it we will have a scholarship waiting for you and that he or someone else from the team would be in touch. i said cool...then i messed things up for myself. stupid kid decisions that you learn from. i have no delusions that i was going to be some great b-baller and play for money or anything. the biggest loss from me not playing like i should have is that i had a chance at a nearly free education and could have been on a DII team that would have played at Allen Fieldhouse at least one time. that experience alone would have been worth the work i should have put in. but hey, you make choices and live on. you learn from it all going through hard times and going through things you hate. but the things we hate are here to build the muscles in us to make it through the rest of life. too much rambling, yeah...reminiscing...
Could have walked on to two NAIA schools, was always a tall kid growing up but stopped growing at 6'2'' so I had a forward's game in a guard's body. I got a couple offers because I was athletic ( I got recruited by DII and one DI school for high jump) but NAIA schools are freaking expensive so I didn't play ball.
^ cookielogic, what years and where did you play high school ball in Kansas?
well, like i said, i made some mistakes and ultimately did not even play high school ball. would have been in olathe had i played and it would have been 1995-1997.
Im in highschool in Canada, and Ive been contacted by a few D2 schools, and emailed by a couple D1, but im going to be playing AAU in the summer for the first time ever so hopefully I will get a few D1 looks!
..
...
@cookielogic, ah gotcha, thats cool, there aren't many Kansans on this site so I was just curious if I had ever played against you, but probably not cuz you're a little older and from a different part of the state. I played 3A ball for a school near Salina 97-2000, and some AAU tourneys in Wichita, but Olathe is at least 3 hours away so you've probably never heard of my school.

I don't know why I am in such a curious mood today first asking about schools and your schools players, and now... if you have ever played D1 college basketball??! Mm, I wonder if there were/are any legit prospects on here?? So yeah, any of you dudes play college ball? D1 please... coz me alone already have a handful of buddies who play D2/D3.
