gopack10ParticipantComing from a white male, I see this as a non-story. I know exactly what Harrison meant when he made that comment. And I’m sure Kaminsky didn’t think anything of it either. I’ve been called that word many times in my life on the basketball court and I’ve never given a second thought about it because I know that in certain situations it isn’t being used as a "racial slur" and this was one of those occurences. Harrison was upset and was just venting some frustration.
The media is going to make this bigger than it really is.
The fact that this word means what it does to so many and should be taken out of people’s "vernacular" as Stephen A mentioned this morning is a different conversation for a different day but what Harrison said should be a non-issue and people who are thinking about it rationally realize that.

Ghost01ParticipantIncredibly and remarkably stupid, but overall not a big deal.
I said this same thing when it came to Riley Cooper, who obviously and rightfully was in more hot water since he is white, the context of the comment was using the n-word just like a number of other obscenities.
Just like Cooper could have easily replaced what he said with "I’ll fight any motherf***er here", Harrison could have replaced what he said with f**k that p**sy or something like that.
But at the end of the day, for a fringe NBA player at best, this isn’t exactly how you want to end your season, with just an added set of questionmarks teams are going to have about you.

llperezi wouldnt compare the cooper situation to this at all. You are suggesting cooper just randomly used the n word as slang and could have easily said "mother f’er" but thats not true, he wasnt refferring to every mother f’er, he was specifically talking about beating up black people at that country music show. Im glad cooper has goten a second chance but there is zero comparison between situations here.

Ghost01ParticipantThat’s not how I took it, and there is no true evidence suggesting either way…just a 20 second youtube clip.
The bottomline is…this isn’t a big deal. Forget my cooper point if it bothers you so much and talk about how the Lakers will be a playoff team in 2016 and how Durant is going to sign there.

OhCanada-ParticipantLmao. Well done. I really hope Duke wins Wisconsin is starting to piss me off. They have won over the public and became the media darlings of this tourney run but I just feel like they are (especially Kaminsky ) way too cocky. Sort of like the New England Patriots and Tom Brady.
I was also hoping Dekker would be available when Toronto picked this year. Looks like that’s a lost cause.

gopack10Participant"marketing side" of the NCAA? Wisconsin? Doubtful. Have you even watched TV over the last month or so? Kentucky has been the darling of almost ever major media outlet for months now. I mean I have heard/seen/read very little on Wisconsin after the game last night. All that is being discussed is Kentucky.
I mean Duke is barely getting any run at this point which is extremely odd because the media usually loves them some Coach K.
At no point has anyone on the Wisconsin team done anything to warrant you calling them "cocky". Seems like sour grapes after a loss. But I don’t hold anything against Harrison for what he said since it really wasn’t that bad and he was just upset after a loss, so I won’t hold that ridiculous statement about Kaminsky/Dekker/Wisconsin against you after the same loss.

OhCanada-ParticipantGood call Clayton. Sour grapes is a good way to put it. These guys constantly eliminate my favourite teams. Cocky may not be the best word for it but its annoying me and they have cost me quite a bit of money. Hey my opinion may not count for much but I’m damn sure aloud to express it on a forum right?
A couple years ago they beat Michigan a team I loved watching play with Burke, Stauskas, etc. and they beat Indiana. Lost money on both those games.
This year and last year they beat Oregon and Arizona (how does that even happen). I got cheered for the Ducks both times but knew they would lose and bet on Arizona both times and lost. I really started hating them when they beat Arizona in OT last year.
When UK beat them last year I was very happy but then they lost this year ruining a UK/Duke matchup that would last a lifetime and determine the #1 overall pick in the draft (most likely) and Im about to make me some wine Clay. Sour grapes all day.
Anyways passion fuels sports. I feel bad for whoever watches these games with no emotions and only uses rational to view a basketball game.

Magic JordanParticipantI have no problem with what Harrison said, it doesn’t offend me at all. Nor was I trying to call OhCanada stupid in any way. I have never had a conversation with him so it is impossible for me to judge his intellectual capacity. I was simply referring to the assbackwardness in society meaning that someone would applaud someone else for saying Fucking Nigga on TV and refer to another group of kids as "cocky" when they haven’t really done anything that resembles cockiness at all.

Harrison did a bonehead move there, not much of a big deal. He was angry, he apologized, nobody got hurt. I didn’t like what he did, but I’m sure Kaminsky didn’t take it personal.

joe2324ParticipantThis story is BS and such a double standard. What applies to one race needs to apply to all others. Come on, if the tables were turned and Kaminsky had uttered those words, this entire story would have blown up all over the media and Kaminsky’s reputation as well as Wisconsin’s rupuation would be stained and ruined. Every race husler in America would demand this kid’s head if he had made that comment about a black player on Kentucky, Harrison, Towns anyone of them. Such BS in this story it is sickening.
Any racial slur is racist…if a white person made a black racial slur, the white would be CRUCIFIED TO NO END BY THIS LIBERAL MEDIA AND YOU ALL KNOW IT IS TRUE. But, however, when a black makes this comment, the media and everyone here calls it DUMB? Really? A dumb mistake? I don’t think so. How fast would the University of Wisconsin be fined had any player on that team ( white player) made that comment? This story would be blasted all over CNN, CNBC, youtube social media and folks like Al Sharpton would do everything in his power to draw a line between whites and blacks.
Paula Deen lost her job and career for using this word. This whole thing reeks of a double standard.
I just see the media makng excuses for black racist behavior labeling it "dumb" or "ignorant"
I know this post is gong to be negged to death but oh well, it is the truth.

King CaluchaParticipantThank you. I’ve seen a lot of people use the word in America, but some people get offended when it’s used by a white person. It’s a bit ridicilous.
Clearly, Harrison doesn’t use the word in a derogatory way… he just meant to say "f— that dude", because he was angry. This isn’t a racist issue. The problem is that this young man is disrespecting his opponent publicly. His choice of words wasn’t the best.

PhillySteveParticipant..it also gets you a program with hyper-entitled teenagers who live in an entirely different universe than the rest of us. The Harrison twins are being denied what they want and feel they deserve for the first time in their lives. I may have missed it, but I don’t think Calipari has addressed the issue, which is a real shame. He’ll use it as a bunker-up teaching moment, like he always does, to increase the players’ dependence on him. The real teaching moment should be for the kid learn about the sportsmanship of losing and decide whether he wants to try and get better, or hang it up. If i said anything like that, my parents would have punished me and my friends would have given me unmerciful bs. Too bad he wont get the same and learn from it early in life, when bouncing back is no big deal.

Bad DogParticipant+1 and i wish i could give you more. I agree 100%. There definitley is a double standard and the media is absolutely to blame for it. The media does report "real news" but once they get a story involving a racial issue, specifically between a white and black person, it takes center stage. Seriously, this sh!t is getting out of hand, Everyone gets offended so easily these days and it’s almost like you can’t say anything because someone is going to get upset about it, I see this every day and it’s really become an irritation because it seems people can’t act natural around each other anymore. I’ve always been a friendly person but considering the current tendency of people to overreact to any comment that might appear race related, at this point I just don’t care anymore if what I say offends people. These days if someone has a problem with what I say, I’ll tell them the bathroom is good place to go cry if you’re upset about something but don’t bring that BS around me. I’m not saying go out and use racial slurs like it’s going out of style, but don’t crucify someone if they just happen to voice an opinion. I gew up with the saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me". It’s time to start acting like composed adults and not like a bunch of oversensetive pansies.

joe2324Participantit is complete bullshit. He claims he used the word in "jest" or in the heat of the moment? Take a look at his body language and facial expressions and you will see he meant every word, all of it. He meant it all to be racist. This kid knows absolutlely nothing about fairness and dignity. He is nothing more than a typical thug who knows nothing more exepct unsportsmanlike conduct and disgusting language and is typically self-centered. I would remove him from the team and dismiss him from the school he completely dishonored. I used to be a fan of Kentucky but know I see them as hateful, bitter unsportsman like thugs and I’m also not absolving their coach of any wrong doing as wel because he has failed miserably at trying to instill any decent qualities in these kids.

tuck243Participantis problematic. I do have a question for you. Would you call Riley Cooper a Thug or is that term only reserved for blacks? I’m not trying to be condescending, BUT the term thug has quickly replaced the N-Word when describing blacks in this country. No where have you seen any of these UK players act violent, yet you describe one of them as a "typical thug".

llperezi dont find it racist. Regardless of how we feal about it, the black culture has accepted the use of the n word amongst themselves. Its just a commmon word to them when used by them(obviously white people dont get a pass). So he called kaminsky a word that basically just means dude to him. Not a nice thing to say, but not racist. Anyone who spends anytime around black people probably sees the word being tossed around freely and many times towards non blacks. I see this whole thing as a non issue.

billykParticipantHow is saying, "fuck that ni**a" make Harrison racist?? To be a racist would mean you believe that your race is superior.. Obviously that word has history in this country between whites and blacks hence te double standard… But to think when a blacks persons uses the word "ni**a" they are use it the show superiority over any race is kinda ridiculous…

joe2324Participantso you admit there is a double standard and you admit that when blacks use that word there are no racial overtones behind it? So, blacks are not capable of being racist, only whites. If Kentucky was playing a predominately black school and got beat, I doubt Harrison would make those comments. He was clearly frustrated that a mostly white team ( Although much older and experienced) got the best of them.
Even if Kaminisky had said F Andrew Harrison after a loss, the media would blast him, Wisconsin and anyone associated with the school. A white guy from a predominatly white team insulting a black player from a predominatly black school after a loss would be destroyed by the media and labeled as a racist.
I’m not understanding why people thing it is ok to have a double standard and give him a slap on the wrist. I just don’t get it.
i’m not racist at all, but i’m finding blacks seem to disagree with me 100% and liberal whites seem to disagree with me 100% on this issue. Go figure.
Its completely asinine to live in a culture where a word can only be used to by a certain group of people for someone that happened 400 years ago which does not even involve anyone alive today. The word is obviously horrible and should never be used by anyone, black or white.

billykParticipantWhere did I say blacks aren’t capable of being racist? If you don’t understand that he could have been easiley referring to black player, you have no concept of the word… Also I wanna actually have an intelligent debate but when I read about "liberals" and "I’m not a racist at all" I figure that won’t be happening.. I really don’t understand why one would have to go out there way to state they are not a racist smh.. Also i think you need to brush up on your American History, if you think what happened 400 years ago doesn’t affect African Americans too this day….

joe2324ParticipantYou state, "I really don’t understand why one would have to go out there way to state they are not a racist smh."
Well, lets see because my comments and opinions on this subject don’t mix with the majority here and I know i’m going to labeled a racist. Happens all the time. Same thing if a white guy had an opinion against the Michael Brown incidnt – would be labeled a racist.
