I know that, if the matches are won easily there is no need to force the team’s stars, but in only 22 minutes you can not prove much, Mr. Roy Williams, please, let us enjoy the last season of Harrison Barnes in North Carolina, please let them play 30-34 minutes per game

Is he really only playing 22mpg? That’s madness! It’s probable that those will pick up, but he does seem to struggle to find a rhythm being taken in and out so often.

Pj hairston is fine, Mcadoo is fine…. both with limited playing time.

If barnes play 30, 34 min hairston and Mcadoo would lose some playing time and won’t be ready to bring something on the table when march madness will begin.

Barnes will be ready when NC will need him, but the others ?… they need to play.

He scored 17 points and had 4 rebounds in a 97-48 blowout over Evansville. Omphalos, you are a coach, are you playing Harrison Barnes extended minutes in that game? He is averaging 27 minutes per game this year and this is for a couple reasons. One is that North Carolina is a deeper team on the wing than they were last year, with guys like Reggie Bullock, PJ Hairston and even James McAdoo able to provide some good back-up minutes. Two, they have mainly been blowing out their opponents and Roy is trying to give those back-ups valuable playing experience. Also, keep in mind that Harrison still has a sprain he is coming back from, which he may be able to play through, but he is still recovering from.

Barnes played 24 minutes against Kentucky, but he picked up three fouls in the first half, so that is the reason for the low total. Franfran, if you want James McAdoo to play more minutes, who is he going to take them from? More than likely either John Henson (who played 21 minutes yesterday) or Harrison Barnes. I think Barnes proved a lot in 22 minutes, such as his ability to kick Evansville’s @ss. Omphalos, never trust franfan to give you accurate per minute statistics my man. Franny, know you really like Harrison Barnes, but wait until ACC play starts. Than, he will be getting the minutes you want him to play.

yeah I watched the first several minutes of that game before watching villanova missouri… and barnes was so easy you just don’t need to take risk making him play more than 25 minutes.

Roy’s strategy also is to play more that 8 players in a game. Though he gets some flack for it, he still has more players that he can depend on come March.

I’m not sure I blame Coach Williams for allocating minutes to the younger players in cupcake games. There is no problem in trying to work your backend rotation players in guarantee games so they can be more ready for the conference slate. Why ride Barnes 30-34 mins against Evansville?

As much as I criticize Roy for his frequent substitutions, this year he is a little more justified.  The logic is, the more talent you have, the more talent you play.  With that being said, Barnes doesnt need to play 30 min a game this year, he has some help on the wing coming off the bench.  Now if he is on and he not in foul trouble and they need him on the floor let him play.  On top of that, he has to give way when others are playing well, like if it wasnt for Hairston against UK, they wouldve been in serious trouble in the first half.  Hairston is a deep ball shooter that can shoot you in a game fast….Barnes is a good shooter but not like P.J.   If they really want to be good and have that rotation primed and ready for March….Barnes’ minutes have to be sacrificed….this is also due to in large part that with Marshall and Strickland basically having to be in the game at all times (one or the other) due to PG depth….Bullock and Hairston both cant log SG min, someone has to play at SF.

They were up 30 at halftime….no one played 30 minutes last night.  He rested his stars and played some guys that don’t play much this year that will eventually play in the future….That’s good coaching.  I don’t think any NBA scout would take much from Barnes dropping 40 points in 35 minutes of playing time against Evansville in a 49 point victory.

actually, the fact that Barnes is playing 27 min a game is a testament to how good he is because the Heels have:

    1 true center

    1 true PG

    2 true PF’s

the rest are wings….including Watts who has seen his playing time decrease this year

@mikeyv; you are correct, no chance I’d have my best player playing down the stretch of that game. I shouldn’t have taken franfran’s word he was averaging 22mpg for the season, it’s perfectly acceptable to play just a little in a blowout.
