franfranParticipantI open this post to, to talk about improving performance in recent games.
He is proving to be a number 1 draft pick and a strong candidate for POY.if he keeps playing at this pace and putting 100% on the court, I have no doubt that Harrison "the silent murderer" barnes and tar Heels, get the championship.PD: I think the comparison with Luol Deng, stay in the pastStats of season: 18 ppg 5,1 rpg 1 apg 1,2 spg 0,4 bpgStats of the last 5 Games 20,8 ppg 7 rpg 1,2 apg 1 spg 0,2 spg0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/19/2012 - 11:47am #638836
HaleParticipantYou put steals per game twice for the last 5 games stats. I’m a big fan of Harrison, but he really needs to improve his handle. He’s great with one or two dribbles, but after that he needs a lot of work. He won’t be the #1 pick and POY is pretty much already a two man race between Davis and Robinson, but I’m a fan of him.

Knicksboy42ParticipantI actually think this a great post Fran.
Anthony Davis has emerged as the number one pick, but I think Barnes should be the second pick over Drummond. He’s a jumpshooter, but there is some serious upside in his post game. I believe Barnes could develop a little bit of a post game, and be a serious player in this league. I think Deng is a bit of a strong comparison because Barnes isn’t the defensive player Deng is, but guys like Danny Granger are more apt. Another factor that GM’s and scouts have to look at for Barnes is his character and his late game play. Not only has he carried UNC late in games, but he’s held this team together through offensive periods, where Marshall, Henson, and Zeller were struggling. His character is high. Barnes just seems like a "first guy in the gym, last guy out" to me, and for teams with knuckleheads (Sacramento, Washington), he’d push guys to make them better.
All in all, I’d take Barnes with the 2nd overall pick.

lalailaParticipantBarnes gets 18 ppg in 27minutes!! Take Lamb who gets 17ppg and plays 37mpg and his team is nowhere near as deep at wings..Harrison got at least 23 in 3 of 4 last ganes
he is working on his handles and besides that he is everything you need from a go to guy..and im actually pretty suprised with his leaping ability and speed too..he has really a lot of dunks and put backs and fast break plays this year that you probably wouldn’t expect from him..

juves4783Participantas far as most nba ready, it’s gotta be harrison barnes. when he wants to take over a game, he does it instantly. take the duke game, he pretty much let zeller and henson take over the 1st half cause they were both hot; but once they struggled in the 2nd half, he pretty much took over and carried carolina. he shows a nice jumper, excellent 1st step and a really underrated post game. i think he will easily take ROY and would be an asset to any team that needs a scorer.
as far as comparison, i’m not quite sure who his game translates too; but comparing his college career, i would compare it to rudy gay. carolina and uconn in 2009 are very similar teams. they both are/were about 8 deep with nba caliber players. once gay got in the league, he became more selfish and more productive.

BiggysmallsParticipantI like the Rudy Gay comparisons alot, He reminds me of Kobe in terms of style and clutch, but probably will never be as purely talented. If you could combine Danny Granger and Kobe, I think it would be Harrison Barnes.
I would legitimately take Barnes with the 1st pick, if I’m the Bobcats I do it in an instant. If I’m the Wizards, I do it. I think he will be a rock solid 18 to 24 ppg 4-7 rpg type of player for a long time. He also does it efficiently. He continues to improve on everything people say he needs to improve on. He needs to be more aggressive? He’s been doing it. He needs to get to the line more? Doing it. Rebound more? He’s getting more.
I think if he can tighten up his handles, and I have no doubt that he will, He will be a really really good player in the NBA.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI like him and hope Barnes goes 2, Drummond slipping would probably the best thing that could happen to him in order to take the pressure off and not be worried about the "bust" factor as much. You at least know what you’re getting with Barnes at the next level and Davis and Drummond have questions on how they will fair.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantRudy Gay? Really? No… Barnes is not even close to as explosive as Gay… Early Paul Pierce.. Joe Johnson without the PG abilities, Carmelo Anthony but not as good…

Meditated StatesParticipantEspecially at this stage. I like Barnes. He will be a deadly shooter. He will score because of that shot. He will never handle it very well all he needs is a few dribbles anyway. Name me people who developed drastically improved handle from college to the NBA. Barnes is ready, top three pic. I might even take him one depending on how other guys him included show in workouts.

The8thDeadlySinParticipant"He will be a deadly shooter."
Shoutout!

Zeke313ParticipantIt’s ironic because, on the surface ballhandling appears to be one aspect of the game that’s easiest to improve on. It doesn’t rely so much on natural talent (although good dexterity and quick hands are a plus) as much as it does practice. It’s just a matter of putting work in the gym. Heck theirs been players in the past that have completely altered the mechanics of their jumpshot yet we can’t get guys to improve thier handle?
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/19/2012 - 4:58pm #638938
The8thDeadlySinParticipantHonsetly, lots of ball handling is about confidence, hand quickness, and feel for the ball.. One thing that is very important about ball handling that peopole often overlook is HAND SIZE..
I have tiny hands but I am a good ball handler because I have worked on it forever… However, not may people with small hands can handle well..
IDK anything about his and size but that could be a factor..
Various drills can imporve hand speed and natrual feel. A person who is not creative can never be great but can be good..

i believe barnes will be a more of the come off a screen type shooter of a spot up type i would say more of a granger and deng type of player i see him going higher then lamb or robinson because hes proven 27 min a game and averging 18ppg is very good numbers but also i see bobcats goin after him cause of jordan honestly lol
0 - Posted on: Sun, 02/19/2012 - 6:05pm #638974
omphalosParticipantI disagree that Barnes can’t increase his handle, once he gets to the NBA where there is more space and lanes to the paint he will attack off the dribble more, and the effect of playing 82 games a year will kick in to make him more confident in his handle.
You are right though, that a lot of it comes down to confidence in your dribble, I just feel like he hasn’t got it yet, but it will come.
If I were the Bobcats I would take either Drummond or Barnes first, simply because they need scoring, and both of these players have the potential to be big-time scorers at the next level, which I don’t really see from Davis.
Also, the UNC connection would make Barnes an instant fan favourite and increase the support for the Bobcats in Charlotte.

BiggysmallsParticipantThere is a big explosivness difference between Gay and Barnes, thats no secret, but Gay isnt reliant on it and I wouldnt doubt he would be a very effective player with less athleticism and explosivness because he is pretty skilled and strong. I see Barnes being the same.

j1232eParticipantI really like Barnes’ game. I would take him #1 if you don’t like your SF. My player comparison for Harrison is a young Sean Elliot.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/20/2012 - 1:01am #639105
Mr. 19134ParticipantSo you wanna build your team around a young Sean Elliot who was a 3rd option his whole career? Really? Were you reading Gottliebs Big Board?
And whoever thinks Barnes should go over Davis needs their head examined.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/20/2012 - 4:57am #639128
r377ParticipantBarnes has a slow first step. He might be a 16-18ppg scorer and a second or third option on an decent NBA team.
I can’t see him being an all-star and i think he might only be slightly better than marvin willliams. Sean Elliott isn’t a bad comparision
He has a nice shooting touch but doesn’t do anything else really well – pass, handle or defence is only average…

JNixonParticipant"He has a nice shooting touch but doesn’t do anything else really well – pass, handle or defence is only average…"
He’s an above average defender actually, I think. He’s also a very good rebounder for a wing and a decent passer too. And he’s a factor in the post too. He does alot of things well. His handle is the main thing holding him back, but he has everything else you look for in a SF.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/20/2012 - 5:52am #639137
kbrittParticipantWhere Barnes goes, he will immediately impact that team. Whether it be Nets, Hornet, or even Bobcats, he will bring scoring, shooting, and he can play defense, as well as rebound. Small forwards don’t need to have amazing handles, but I agree he needs to tighten them up. I really think New Jersey could use a scoring small forward, if they want to possibly convince Deron to stay.

SwatLakeCityParticipant@Biggysmalls, you never compare Harrison Barnes to Kobe. NEVER. Do you realize that that was who most people compared him to coming out of High School? Then came the first 11 games of his freshman year. Its quite clear that Barnes needs a pure point guard like Marshall to even be considered Kobe-like. Kobe doesn’t need a pure point guard to be dominant and that’s why you never compare Barnes to Kobe. 8th deadly sin hit it right on the head when he said "early Paul Pierce.. Joe Johnson without the PG abilities."
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/20/2012 - 7:19am #639162
JonOatsParticipantUnlimited range and unafraid to take big shots. Seems like he’s moving in slow mo then dunks on you. Plays in the flow and looks like he’s having an average night then you check and he’s already got 20 points. Pierce is terribly underrated and will probably end up as the Celtic’s all time leading scorer. If Barnes can even come close to that he’d be worth the number one or two pick.

PulseGlazerParticipantI like Barnes. I do not think Barnes turns around a terrible team, but I like Barnes. Davis and Drummond are, in my opinion and I could be very wrong, of course, the only two guys who can single handedly turn around an NBA team. After them I see Barnes and MKG as the most likely to contribute to winning soon, and Robinson and Jared both have huge question marks in the NBA for me, but are the next two best. I have little faith in Moultre, Lamb, or Jones. Beal, Leonard and the rest up to around 20 are likely at least very good rotation players.

Malik-UniversalParticipanti like barnes as a prospect… some of us are kinda overrated him as nba player…. he will be good no doubt….. i heard some joe johnson comparisons which i like more than loul deng…idk if he will be as a complete player as johnson i think…. but barnes does rebound and defend pretty solid and plays unseflish… i want to see him play more with flair and really demand that ball
