The Grizzlies 10-11 season.
Almost everybody by now knows that Rudy Gay signed the max contract in memphis and will stay. I would like to thank many of the posters on here for keeping me entertained by throwing ideas that Rudy doesn't like memphis...Rudy won't get paid that much....Rudy doesn't deserve that much.....meh.
It's time we all moved on from the idea that memphis is a joke-organization. We are commited to getting better and that's what we did last year. Our owner has kept to his word about keeping Rudy. We are not an organization about dumping contracts anymore....Why would we have easily let Gay Rudy walk away at this point? It's not logical to think memphis would build a team and then let possibly the most important piece just walk away? whatever.
conely - vazquez
mayo - henry
gay - young
randolph - arthur
gasol - thabeet - haddaddi
Thing is, it's still free agency period. We may more signing at pg? Maybe a backup PF...sorry Arthur, I still don't think you cut it.
Anyway, each of these Grizzlies players are getting better every year that goes by. Are the Grizzlies a playoff team? I believe so. I think they can grab 7th-8th seed. For everybody's information, in 2009-2010, the Grizzlies lost 17 games where they had a double digit lead at some point in the game. The problem was the bench, the Grizzlies had no scoring off the bench. Well, I believe they made good draft choices...and now I believe this team can be consistent.
People were saying stuff like this a few years ago about the Clippers...
I'm not convinced that they can make the playoffs in the West.
If the Grizzlies make the playoffs, who falls out?
Can u see the Grizz moving Xavier Henry and Mike Conley for a PG?
start doing some research about the grizzlies 09-10 season. come back and tell me that a team that increases their wins by 16... which also lost 17 games by which at one point in the game had double digit leads.... and then they do good draft choices, then resign possibly the best player on the team...
it's not secret you don't like memphis. I hope boozer stays in utah man.
ol' boii Brewer? Didn't they trade for him in case of Rudy Gay getting away? Is he not in their plans anymore since he's re-signed? He'd be great off the bench, but I doubt he'll take that as his first option..
I love the Grizzlies. They are the subject of my new series.
Instead of attacking me, why don't you answer my question?
Your post makes no sense and doesn't address my post in any way.
And we'll be fine without Booze.
how does it not makes sense? and i'm not attacking you, if you feel attacked, that might be you feeling a little paranoid.
The grizzlies increased their wins by 16 last season.. 40 total wins in 09-10. They also lost 17 games last year...in which at one point in the game...had double digit leads...their bench was awful at scoring and couldn't cut it.
We make the right draft choices. We keep Gay. It's a season later and each player possible has improved.
If you feel the Grizzlies can't cut it in the West, that's your opinion. The odds are in memphis's favor to sneak into the 10-11 playoffs.... why don't you see it?
come back and tell me that a team that increases their wins by 16... which also lost 17 games by which at one point in the game had double digit leads.... and then they do good draft choices, then resign possibly the best player on the team..."
Come back and tell you what? You never finished that thought. That's why your post didn't make sense to me.
"it's not secret you don't like memphis"
This is attacking me. You assume that I have a bias, and that is why I'm wrong. Even if this was true, it isn't a real argument, as this is a fallacy per Ad Hominem.
I'm just curious, if you think the Grizzlies will make the playoffs who do you think will fall out? The Suns? The Jazz? The Spurs?
free agency isn't over. It's hard to tell yet.
The thunder snuck in....the grizzlies can do the same with the amount of talent they have.
if telling you that it's not a secret that you don't like memphis is attacking, then I believe you were abused as a child.
I apologize if you felt I was attacking you when I feel dislike toward my team and state it.
Don't forget about my Rockets coming back in the West :D
Are they better than...
Mavericks? Not unless they lose Dirk and do nothing with the Dampier contract.
Phoenix? Maybe if they lose Amare, Frye, and Amundson for nothing.
Denver? Not unless they sell off Melo for a bag of magic beans.
Utah. Not even if they lose Boozer, Korver, and Matthews.
San Antonio? No.
Oklahoma City? No.
A lot of things have to bounce Memphis' way.
Bothteamsplayhard just summed it up right there.
The Grizzlies still need to get better defensivly. They COULD slip in if PHX has no Amare but other than that. No.
if any i got the suns falling out but i doubt it; What can you say the west is hard
but the grizz is still young and maybe a 1-2 years away the vazquez pick was a good for them he competes
It's better that Rudy is staying with Memphis.... Gay Love might work in Golden State but not in Minnesota.
People seem to forget that the Grizzlies blew alot of 3rd quarter leads...And play their starters a lot of minutes becuz they didn't have anyone that made a contribution off the bench..I heard they're trying to trade Zack..But he was their most important player last season..Conley made strides but not great strides to say he's the starter of the future..Becuz opposing point guards constantly outplayed him...Xavier will be a surprise next season..I dont expect Brewer back ..Whats puzzling to me is that want to make Mayo a point guard..Even sending him to summer league camp to work on his playmaking skills.....But rumors have it they're trying to sign Raymond Felton..
I thought brewer would thrive with memphis, not picking up his qualifying offer was a mistake, a 1st round pick mistake!
"If the Grizzlies make the playoffs, who falls out?"
To be honest it's all up for grabs this year. I wouldn't be surprised if the Grizz made it. They have a solid line up, and a decent bench. Plus do you guys really think the Suns and Spurs can keep up now adays? because I don't. The Spurs were horrible, and with RJ leaving, and Parker, Manu, and Duncan all a year older I wouldn't put my money on them to be as good. Same with the suns if they lose Amare. I expect Houston to be right up there, and maybe The Grizz sneak in.
None of us know how good the Grizz can be. Maybe Thabeet starts to get it, and Mayo turns into a good point guard. Should be an interesting team regaurdless
Its no secret i'm a griz fan but so i'm going to say yes they have a very good shot of making the playoffs. Especially if they can get a better back up pf. X Henry will provide scoring off the bench, Grevis Vasquez is a great leader and a very clutch player off the bench, Sam Young will be an all around hustle player off the bench, Hasheem Thabeet will provide a defense presence in the middle and if we can just sure up that back up pf we can easily be a playoff team. You have an excellent starting 5 that is young and will just get better and better. I think OJ will have a breakout year maybe 18-20 ppg 5-7 assists and 2-2.5 steals per game. The big question though is Z-BO. He will be a big time trade comodity at the deadline because of his HUGE expiring contract. I've heard they're trying to restructure his contract for long term but we'll just have to see. Should be a very exciting season in Memphis. GO GRIZ!!!
I think it goes without saying that there is excitment in Memphis. They have a lot of potential.
The two most popular teams that seem to be "falling" according to you guys are the Suns and the Spurs.
The Spurs still have Tim Duncan. That puts them in the playoffs. Then Manu, Parker and all of their younger talent still puts them in contention for homecourt advantage in round one.
Every single year, it seems like everyone thinks the Spurs will fall off and the Grizzlies, Warriors or Clippers will replace them. Every single year I argue with you guys.
Now, I could see the Suns falling out if they lose Amare. The problem is that they still have a system, they still have experience and they still have Nash.
Out of all the teams that didn't make the playoffs last season, I think the Rockets have the best chance to make it this year. Getting Yao back, devolping Jordan Hill and drafting Patrick Patterson should certainly help their front line. I think losing Landry really hurt them, and I'm not a big fan of Kevin Martin, but they still have a solid chance to make the playoffs.
Memphis has talent, but in the West, I think the playoffs are out of reach. Even if Houston, Utah, Portland and Denver get smashed with injuries again. Keep in mind that they were a full 10 games out of the playoffs last year and the 8th seeded Thunder were only 7 games out of first place. It's not like the Grizzlies were close to making it to the playoffs last year.
Of course there is always a chance, but as BothTeamsPlayedHard said, "A lot of things have to bounce Memphis' way."
