Just watched the St. John’s-G’town game, and came away impressed with Monroe. While he didn’t get many boards, the guy has great handles, passes well, and finishes great around the basket. If Wesley Johnson was not in the Big East Greg Monroe would have a great chance at winning Big East POY.

I love the confidence he’s playing with this season, he didn’t play with that confidence for much of last year (with the exception of that UConn game). I compre him to Pau Gasol. He’s not that physical, can handle the ball and pass better than a vast majority of big men, and can finish with both hands around the rim. I wasn’t high on him before, but now that he’s confident, you’ve got to like him as a prospect.. Top 10 worthy? I think so…

He is only a sophomore, but if he continues to play at this level throughout Big East conference play then he is Top 10 worthy w/o a doubt.

Pau Gasol is a perfect comparison for Monroe. Pau has actually got more physical over the past few years from where he started out. My bet is that Monroe will become more agressive after his rookie year adjustment to the NBA game.

Monroe will be top 5…… if he comes out..i’ll take him ahead of Derrick Favors & Wesley Johnson…I know i’m going to get some flack for saying that…But some of my homies said i was crazy..When i said Deron Williams would be a better pro than Dee Brown when they were juniors at Illinois..They laughed when i said if he got with the right team and given a chance..That Steve Blake would have a career in the NBA..Monroe is being held back playing in that Georgetown system..Then again it might help him become a better pro…I heard the Grizzlies might’ve drafted him at number 2 if he had came out ……

I don’t think he’s held back at all by Georgetown’s system….I think that their Princeton offense plays to his exact strengths. The offense focuses on finding cutters and open shooters from the free throw line extended, and alot of high post face opportunities on offense for big men. Those are all things he’ll do in the NBA and they’re all strengths of his…He’s outplaying Favors and I understand why you’d take him over him. But Johnson isn’t going to be a bad player himself in the NBA. In fact, he could develop into one of the better players in the NBA. It would depend on my team needs if I had to choose on who I’d take between those two..

He is a unique player in this draft. It is extremely rare to find a big man who can do so many things at such a young age (19). He can score on the block, hit a jumper, put it on the floor, set the high screen, and is probably the best big man passer in a long time. I have a hard time believing he will drop out of the top ten. There is a 6’10+ international who can shoot like Donatas in every draft (Claver, Gallinari, Yi, Bargnani, etc). “Energy” bigs are there every year. The undersized power forwards like Patterson are in multiples every year. I don’t see guys like him come along much. He is polished and has a high basketball iq. I think he would be a good fit in Sacramento next to Thompson because Jason does the energy stuff and picks up garbage. Hawes, despite last night’s 30-11-5, is probably better suited off the bench. For the same reason, he could look good next to Joakim Noah in Chicago (assuming they target Joe Johnson or dream scenario of Wade this summer as opposed to Boozer and dream scenario of Bosh). If Washington cleans house, they might grab the G-Town kid and rebuild around him with the more energy types (Blatche and McGee) to play next to him.

Milwaukee probably wouldn’t go in that direction because I think they are content with the skilled bigs they have with Bogut and Ilyasova. My guess would be they would be in the market for the heir apparent to Redd who also can D-up (Henry or Bradley would fit that bill as would James Anderson). I have little doubt Monroe will be better than Ilyasova, but if they can get a really good 2 I think they will.

If, by some chance, he does start to drop like some think, there is a team in San Antonio who is platooning McDyess and Bonner next to Tim Duncan that would absolutely samba up to David Stern to hand him the card reading Monroe’s name.

yeah ive always liked his game. he seems like the type of player thats gonna be a better pro then a college player and ive always liked him more then favors because hes alot more skilled
