Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’ve put together a list of the top 10 players in Laker’s history imo. Please keep in mind this list is only based on what players did with the Laker’s and not their entire careers.
Magic Johnson- Probably the greatest point guard of all time and top 5 ever. Played whole career with Lakers during most dominant era in team’s history. Unfortunately forced to retire while still in his prime.
Kobe Bryant- Possibly the best player of his generation, played whole career with Lakers and legacy still being written
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar- Maybe the best overall career in NBA history. Loses points on this list only because he played first six seasons in Milwaukee.
Jerry West- may have been the most important Laker of all time, when you take into consideration everything he has done for the organization, first as player, then coach, then GM
Shaquille O’Neal- Only played 8 of 19 overall seasons with Lakers, but they were his most dominant years
Elgin Baylor- Superstar who was ahead of his time in a lot of ways. Unfortunately, never won a championship.
George Mikan- first superstar in the NBA and most dominant player of his era
Wilt Chamberlain – Best years were before he got to Los Angeles but was still a dominant interior presence who led the team to a championship
James Worthy- Perfect complimentary player with superstar talent. Always rose to the occasion in big moments.
Pao Gasol- Perfect sidekick to Kobe for 2 championships. Trade for him brought the team back to relevance after some bad seasons.
Honorable Mention: Gail Goodrich, Derek Fisher, Jamaal Wilkes, Lamar Odom, Robert Horry, Byron Scott

Magic JordanParticipantIt just seems strange to think Derek Fisher isn’t on a top 10 greatest player list. Granted he was never a statistical stud, he helped them win 5 championships. While hitting big shots or making big plays in all of them.
I can’t decide who he should be on that list over though.

King CaluchaParticipantI just can’t understand this topic. Why discuss who’s better? Everyone played in different eras…

he_gets_bucketsParticipantIf we are talking who was the best player who played for the Lakers at one point in time then yeah Wilt would definitely have to be top 3. But this isn’t about that, its about who had the best career WITH the Lakers, and considering Wilt’s prime was behind him and he only spent 5 seasons with them, I don’t think Wilt can be put at the top of this list.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantYeah. I agree Cooper should be on there under honorable mentions. Was an oversight on my part.

joecheck88ParticipantNo problems for me with this list until Pau Gasol. Didn’t play there very long and his last couple years weren’t memorable. Similar to Andrew Bynum in a way. Instrumental in a couple rings but not great the other years. Gimme Coop Fish or Scott at 10. Think they’re interchangable and almost equals. I can’t choose just one

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’ll stick with Gasol. Lakers don’t win those 2 championships without and was an All-Star and easily the second most important player on those teams. Although Fisher and Coop might have stuck around longer and won more championships, they were never more than role players.

joecheck88ParticipantFair enough. No doubt he was a more integral part in those championships. Just think in a top 10 in a franchise should be more than a few years. Not a knock on your list or Gasol. Just my opinion.

CU.LIONSParticipantThis has nothing to do with the question, but imagine a matchup of 1-2 punches between;
Wilt + West vs
Kareem + Magic vs
Shaq + Kobe vs
Damn !!!!
