Kobe...

Why isn't Magic being blamed for playing with 2 HOF?? One of which is arguably the 2 best player of all-time in Kareem... It's Kobe, not Magic...

Kobe. I'm prejudiced just by

Kobe. I'm prejudiced just by the fact that i've watched his entire career. His will to win is unmatched. He's far and above a HOF than anyone else who is playing right now. He's done everything and had huge expectations when he started playing and he exceeded them. One of the greatest all time. Not much more needs to be said..

WOW!! The Lakers could make

WOW!! The Lakers could make up an entire Hall of Fame by themselves,with all the Greats that have worn the purple and gold...

But Ask anyone that have followed the Lakers since the from the days in Minnesota to now..And they'll say Magic is the Greatest Laker of all time..Magic and Bird saved Pro basketball..

I'll take Magic too. He had a ridiculous career, including winning Finals MVP as a rookie among other things. Kobe is great and all, but I'll still take Magic.

That said, Magic was forced to retire early, so if Kobe can keep winning rings he might leapfrog him.

What? Half of you are clueless as Fawk

when it comes to basketball... When Magic won that Finals MVP as a rookie Kareem was having a MONSTER series before going down with an ankle injury... He really didn't have an offensive game and played ZERO defense... Was blessed with GREAT teammates and wasn't even the best player on his team half the time... He and Kobe share the same amount of rings but Kobe did it with less talent... And Kobe is an overall better player as far as skills... When Kobe won his 5th ring it was already solidified that he was the best Laker ever... Magic even said this... How the fawk did I get negatives is beyond me... I am amazed everyday how much majority of yall don't know a damn thing about basketball... Cowards...

@tuck243:

Earvin put up 42 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals in game 6 of the Finals. This was as a rookie. According to you he put up 42 points with "no offensive game" and got 3 steals by playing "zero defense". Oh, and this would be in a game where his best teammate was out injured. As a ROOKIE.

I know there's more to defence than steals, but he's 15th all time in that stat, which somewhat contradicts your claims of "zero defense". He's second all-time in triple-doubles, first in apg. I could rattle off stats all day.

However, he had a bonafide HOF rival in Bird, and his losses in the Finals came against all-time greats like Thomas, Jordan and Bird. That Johnson was able to consistently get to the top of his conference while his teammates changed drastically over the course of his career is testament to his greatness. Yes, Magic had Kareem, but he was no longer the dominant force in the NBA after a few years of Magic's career, and Johnson stayed competitive throughout despite this.

Kobe has the same number of rings, but he was thoroughly beaten by the Celtics in 2008, and likely would have been again in 2009 had Garnett remained healthy. As it was, he got his first Shaq-less ring because of an injury to Garnett, because the Celtics were looking just as dominant before the injury bug hit that year.

Kobe has done great things, but in my eyes Magic's accomplishments still outweigh his. Just because Kobe plays similarly Jordan doesn't mean he's necessarily better than everyone Jordan was better than. In terms of pure greatness, there are a number of people between Kobe and Jordan in my opinion.

I could go on about why Johnson is better, but I get the feeling you're not the reasonable sort, so I'll just leave it there.

You can call us ignorant if you want, but if you think it's somehow insulting or absurd to say Magic Johnson was a greater Laker than Kobe then it would seem you're the one who doesn't know "fawk" about basketball.

Magic's ability to make his

Magic's ability to make his teamates better put him on a different level then Kobe..Kobe's the better athlete,better scorer,defender and possibly the better player..But what Magic brought to the game is Priceless and cant be measured by stats..You really have to understand the game,to relate to what i'm trying to say...

omphalos did you seriously

omphalos did you seriously just try to make an argument by using Kobe probably would have lost again to Boston in 2009. Gues what, KG did get injured and LAL did win. Just like they did in 2010 AGAINST THE C's.

BTW, Magic has 4 finals losses.

His teams were also built to play to his strengths and hide his weaknesses. Something Kobe's teams have NEVER been.

Kobe is the more

Kobe is the more complete/overall player by far, but Magic meant more to the Lakers and the NBA as a whole.

That will to win didn't seem to help when he shot 1/10 in last night's fourth quarter.

Sorry, I've got what some would call an irrational hatred of Kobe's game.

They'd have to build a team with a bunch of players that like passing or rebounding without ever shooting.

@omphalos

And Kareem was averaging 32 and 12 throughout that whole series before going down in Game 5... Regular season MVP and was the favorite to win the Finals MVP... Magic had an up and down series that Finals... Go back and look at the tape... I give the man his due BUT when everybody mention that rookie year crap I realize how much they don't know about the Lakers back then... Secondly, grabbing steals doesn't mean you are a defensive player... Just like scoring 42 points doesn't mean you are an offensive beast... If you think Magic was any of those then I have beach front property in Iowa to sell you potna... Magic was blessed with great teammates and he maximized their talents to the fullest agreed... But not as GREAT as some people believe... People still have him in their Top 3 players of all-time, that is the farthest from the truth... Not when you have Kareem and Russell still out there... Then you include Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, and Bird in there I'm not so sure he's Top 5... Still an all-time Great but currently not the best Laker ever...

Another thing I realize similar to Bird and Jordan... People put these dudes on a pedastal like they can't be touched... There WILL be a player better than Jordan, Bird, and Magic... Once you accept that then this GODLY bias opinions will go away... Basketball is much more than stats believe that...

Funny that 3 of the 5

Funny that 3 of the 5 greatest Lakers have stated that Kobe is the best Laker of all-time. One of those 5 being Magic himself. And @Indiana I agree with your analysis, which further proves my point. Kobe is the best Laker of all-time, and Magic is the most beloved.
