what is the single greatest game you have witnessed live? as in greatest individual performance?
wade first championship performance.
nash led suns comeback on the lakers on playoff series, from 3-1
brandon roy comeback against the mavs, i got watery eyes
You were at all those live?? lol
i just noticed it said "live"
I was about to say... You are a lucky man!!!
I went to that Triple Overtime game in the '09 playoffs between the Chicago Bulls and the Celtics. Ben Gordon and Ray Allen going back and forth, back and forth. It was so nuts. Luckily the Bulls came out on top. Crazy crazy game.
A heated battle between last years champs the Dallas Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors! Led by Kevin Durant, the Warriors were on a 7 game win streak and were blowing opponents out with the greatest of ease. John Wall was leading the league in assists and Roy Hibbert was a force to be reckon with down low. The Warriors came out firing hitting 80% of their shots and looked poised to win their 8th straight. But the Mavericks clamped down on defense and made a huge run led by the shooting of Jason Kidd and Roddy Buckets. The 4th quarter comes along and the Warriors were clinging to a 2 point lead until Dirk begans to catch fire. He made consuctive jumpers to give the Mavericks a 2 point lead. But Durant answered back with a three of his own! Heading into the final minutes of the game, the Warriors were down 2 until John Wall gets an and-1 layup but missed the free throw. With the game being tied, the Mavs isolated Dirk for his patented step back jumper over Luc Richard to give them the lead. Warriors called time out and designed a play for John Wall to isolate. He drives but kicks it out to Hibbert for an easy lay up. Warriors tie the game! Dallas calls a time out with 10.8 seconds left. On the inbounds play, John Wall steals the ball! Being two steps ahead of the nearest Dallas defender (Delonte), he was able to out run them all and finish with an easy dunk to but them up 98-96! Dallas with no time outs advanced the ball to Jason Kidd and he shoots a contested three-pointed and wins as time expired!! 99-98 Dallas Mavericks win behind 20 points from Kidd. One of the greatest games I have ever seen live!
....And then I turned off my X-Box and went to sleep.
Worst: Game 1 meltdown against the Clippers. That blew.
Another dud: Memphis Tigers vs. St. Louis Billikens in the first round in Columbus, OH. Nice town. That game sucked though. They slowed it down and made it ugly. Their guard hits a 25 or 30 foot shot to beat the buzzer at halftime. Later in the game with the shot clock winding down he hits about a 40 footer. Will Barton was playing for the NBA and we looked TURRBull. Our fans were not there either. Highlight: DJ Stephens dunking the ball during the layup drills with his head at the rim.
Better: Games 3 and 4 last year in the playoffs vs. the Spurs. Those were great.
Magic Johnson playing an exhibition game in 1992 against the Bullets. He plays great and puts on a show. The Lakers hold on.
In LeBron's last year with the Cavs they came into Memphis and he played with Shaq. Haddadi leveled one of their guys and really turned up the crowd. Conley hit's the game winner over Shaq.
The game against the Nuggets this year where we have a huge lead and hold on to win by 1. I have great seats and Chris Anderson is on my side of the court, I yell "you're high!". Then he fouls our guy and as he is standing at the line I yell "DRUGS ARE BAD!!!!" Then he is looking for me in the crowd and I wave. I was trying to get in his head. Then we hold for the win with the Dante Cunningham tip in. The Birdman actually leaves the basket, goes out to the shooter (Rudy Gay) to defend the shot, so Dante gets a wide open tip in. Then we put Hadaddi on the inbounder and they don't get a shot off. That was a great game.
Good college game: Memphis vs. Gonzaga at the Forum. Our team is loaded and the Zags have Adam Morrison and Rony Turiaf. Adam Morrison goes off in the first half. Then in the second half we put Shawne Williams on him and shut him down. Shawne Williams gets in Morrison's face and stares him down.
Good Memphis/Midnight Madness Moments:
DaJuan Wagner debuts for Memphis at midnight in the old Mid-South Coliseum.
Coach Cal brings in the 2005/2006 Tiger haul consisting of a great Laurenburg Prep team. Shawne Williams headlines with Dozier, CDR, Antonio Anderson, Kareem Cooper, and Andre Allen too. When I see them all coming out I tell my brother that we bought a team (in a good way, of course). Those guys join Darius Washington, Joey Dorsey, and Rodney Carney.
Derrick Rose debuts for Memphis at Memphis Madness. Jeff Robinson is the other freshman. He looked pretty good and had some nice dunks.
Good individual games against us:
Gaffney and U Mass play the Tigers in the Forum. We all boo him, but he puts up about 15 and 17 and a few blocks too, but we hold on to win.
Lamond Murray and Andre Miller go off against us with the Cavs. I think we won the game but Lamond Murray had about 25 or 30 at the half.
Brad Miller plays for the Kings and drops a triple double on us. WTF?
Zach Randolph and the Blazers play us at the Pyramid about 10 years ago. Z Bo goes off.
I think 4 or 5 years ago Iggy hits a game winner against us.
Great highlights by the good guys:
Jason Williams and us play against the Suns. J-Will picks one of their guard's pockets (I think it was Barbosa) sprints down the right side of the court, slows down a bit when he gets close to the goal, with Barbosa (Suns guard) chasing, and throws down a one handed dunk on him.
Great individual dunks by Lorenzen Wright, Michael Wilson, Rodney Carney, Derrick Rose, Joey Dorsey, Will Barton, and DJ Stephens for the Tigers.
In Larry Finch's last game for the Tigers, Memphis takes on a high ranked Cincy team led by Kenyon Martin. We end up winning the game at the Pyramid, highlighted by a four point play by Cedric Henderson.
A few years later UNC Charlotte ties up the game against us late. We have about 1 or 2 seconds left on the clock. We inbound the ball, Keldrick Bradford gets it and sinks a 3/4 quarter bank shot to win the game. That was the best shot I have seen live.
Derrick Rose wins the dunk contest at Memphis Madness with his patented, two-handed, double-clutch reverse pump dunk.
DJ Stephens throws down two AWESOME dunks to win the dunk title this year at Memphis Madness. First, he comes out of the crowd, throws the ball in the air, takes the ball off the bounce, and flushes it with two hands a few feet in from the foul line. Then for the clincher he does a through-the-legs windmill jam that the NBA guys couldn't pull off in the Slam Dunk Contest.
Dominique throws down a dunk against the Mavs in an exhibition game in 1989 at the old Mid-South Coliseum.
Last year against the Magic, Z Bo hits a half court shot at halftime. I think it was actually a little bit more than halfcourt.
For the Grizzlies, I am sure Stro threw a few down. Rudy has thrown down some good ones too. OJ Mayo had an awesome reverse dunk against the Spurs in the 2011 playoffs.
My favorite game I've ever been too, its gotta be game 6 of the 2008 Finals, Celtics blew the Lakers outta the water and I witnessed glory that day
Kansas St. vs Xavier Sweet 16, three years later and I still look this game up every couple months..
Crawford, Holloway, Pullen and Clemente.. All were on fire the entire game
I went downstate to watch the AA Illinois State Championship Tournament in 2004. The year before Shaun Livingston won the state title as a Junior. He led his team to the final game and hit a buzzer beating runner to win the game and give him his second state title. Then without stopping, he continued running and ran up two stand sections (Game was at Bradley University) up to the student section and they surrounded him and went nuts. It was so much better than a walk off celebration that many players have done, because he ran right into the middle of about 100 students who were going crazy.
Funny thing is at that game I saw 3 different people with a Duke #14 jersey with Livingston on the back. (By then he had commited to Duke and 14 was his HS number. Obviously in the end he choose to go straight to the NBA, but it was a cool idea w/ the jerseys)
i went to a raptors game vs the nets when i was young, it was fun because everytime vince carter got the ball it was all boo's and then he hit the game winner
Me and 3 friends went to Orlando to catch a Magic vs Heat game 3 years ago. It was an 8:00 game on ESPN so tickets were going for upwards of $100. We finally found a scalper that offered us 4 in a row for a total of $240. I quickly checked to make sure they were acually 4 next to eachother. Since it was past tipoff we hurried up the steps to the doors. For some reason I checked the ticket in my hand and I realized that we just got got. I took off sprinting down the steps, sprained my ankle, and tried to find the &$#%#&@! who sold them but he was long gone. The guy sold us 4 ($10 face value) tickets to the Tuesday game against the Wizards. We didn't have the cash to pay for "real" tickets after that so we went and got wasted instead. And that is my only NBA experience.
Watching Dulkys go off on #3 UNC this year for 32 as we beat them 90-57 and ran them off the court, literally, was one performance that stands out to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWC4NYSfets
jordans flu game! im glad i was able to go but as a utah fan i hated it! i think about that game everyday!
For me it's probably european u18 championship and semi-final games in 2010. The championship took place in Lithuania, Vilnius and lithuanian youth team lead by Jonas Valanciunas won gold. Arena was really really packed, the capacity is 12500, but there were at least few hundreds more people, they were standing on stairs and everywhere they possibly could.
In semi-final we won by 2 or 1 points after free throws by Zygimantas Skucas, so we went really crazy after got chance to play in final. Final game against Russia was pretty easy we won by 30, but the atmosphere was outstanding, we were singing whole game long, it really is one of those moments when you feel that you are part of something so much bigger than you and it's really wonderful.
I saw Starbury when he was in highschool kill some dudes in a Gus Macker tournment he was killing people all day long. I remember asking my dad if he played in the NBA, and him saying in a few years he would. wish I could watch the dream team play this monday in DC but stub hub is showing tickets for $98 for nose bleed.
I watched Jeff Withey drop a triple double on Pitt State ( Kansas DII ) in an exhibition game this year, lol.
Kidding aside, since I live in an area where there is no NBA team within 6 hours most of the games I watch live are college games.
I saw Sherron Collins drop 25 on Missouri and see Hinrich get his jersey retired at half-time. The first meeting that year is when Zaire Taylor hit the game winner and this was the revenge game at AFH. This was also the year after the NCAA title and the students had made a 10 foot cut out of a painting of John Brown ( a famous Kansas abolitionist, a large part of the KS v Missouri rivalry is based off Kansas being a free state and Missouri being a slave state in the 1800's) holding a rifle in one hand and the championship trophy in the other. The atmosphere was insane.
For a non Kansas fan, it probably doesn't sound that exciting, but for me it was awesome.
On TV the best game I witnessed was Cleveland vs Detroit and Lebron went for like 25 points straight that was crazy.
In person the best game I've witnessed was a HS game between Manny Harris and Kalin Lucas(Harris only played the 2nd half due to suspension and still scored 27 points Lucas finished with 39), Lucas team pulled out the W back in 07.
uconn vs cuse 6 ots
Brisbane Bullets vs Perth Wildcats in 2006. Some dude called Ebi Ere (he was in the final 4 at one stage at Oklahoma) hit a game winning shot, scored like 25 points and threw down a pretty mad dunk which in Australian basketball is about as common as a 4 point play. All 1000 of us in attendance really enjoyed that.
i dont remeber any individual great perfomrances live. I have been to about about 10 games in my life. I remember thinking kareem rush was legit as hell when i saw him drop 30 in an nba game. That might have been the most he ever scored in the league
No defence battles in the 80s where both guys scored 40 plus.
Bird seemed to always win.
I also saw Albert King make the most amazing play I ever saw in an NCAA game..... Impossible to describe... I honestly thought Albert was gonna be a superstar
well mine was lebrons return i think he finished with 38 but it was agreat just to hear what they were chanting and how he responded classic!
