Was watching some Brandon Roy highlights, which were awesome, and they got me thinking. What if the Blazers actually didnt have such bad luck and neither Roy nor Oden would have gotten injured.

They would have had an amazing core:

Roy (born 84) was a classic SG and supposed to be the best in the league after Kobe and Wade. (probably would have been a tight race with Harden now)

LA(born 84) well we saw what he’s become.

Oden (88′). Was supposed to become the best C in a while, which even got him rated above Durant. Thats saying something..

Batum (88′) The perfect all around guy.

They really seem to compliment each other, enough shooting and spacing, no problems on D, good passers.. And I’ll add that if they were doing real good Paul Allen would probably have no problem going deep into his pocket and getting them good role players.

How would they stack up against in the tight and crowded West?  You think they could have a championship? A few?

I think they would have won at least 1

I imagine the Blazers would have at least won 1 championship, if the Warriors and Mavericks could make it out West, that Blazer team would have been fine

Such a shame Roy and Oden got hit with the dreaded injury bug

I don’t know how good he would’ve been offensively. But Oden was actually a really effective player when he was healthy enough to play.

    2008-09 21.5 MPG 61 GP 56.4 FG% 8.9 ppg 7 rpg 1.1 bpg

    2009-10 23.9 MPG 21 GP 60.5 FG% 11.1 ppg 8.5 rpg 2.3 bpg

There’s no doubt in my mind with increased minutes and a healthier body he would be every bit as good as Dwight Howard.

Brandon Roy is such a sad story too man. James Harden reminds me of him. I think Harden is better at creating his shot own shot though and he’s more of a prolific scorer. But Brandon Roy was such a great leader for that team. Not only that he was super clutch. He accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. Too bad his body decided to betray him. Robbed us of a great player.

Brandon Roy is one of my favorite players ever and it’s super sad to think how his career got cut so short. If Oden panned out like we thought he would, I think they at least make the Finals a few times, if not have a couple championships. I think they could’ve been that good, assuming they fit well together and management didn’t screw it all up

I think Roy was supposed to be great until his knees betrayed him, he’s unselfish, he set teammates up. I think they have a really good chance in winning the west and the Larry Obrien trophy. If only they stayed healthy, with the core of Batum Roy Oden Aldridge Fernandez I think they should’ve won it. I remember Kobe, he also said that Brandon Roy can do it all.

no one Ever talks about the 2006 Draft when Portland after drafting Tyus Thomas at #4, Masterfully acquired Brandon Roy & LaMarcus Aldridge – who were Drated #6 & #2 …. at 6’6” Roy was a scoring machine, a class act & the absolute future face of the franchise & a future MVP (Roy actually finished in the top 10 for regular season MVP after hust his THIRD year in the NBA!)…

Oden was a Monster at Ohio State University…. I remember watching Oden drag that awful Qhio St team to the Finals & I thought he Dominate the NBA for the next decade…. People fail to understand that Oden had Shoulder surgery early his freshman year & returned quickly b/c he wanted to play so badly & was such a competotor & that Oden was forced to play his ome college season with ONE good arm 7 it was his WEAKER arm! Oden – who was right handed – played the WHOLE year Left handed & came within ONE game of bringing home a Champioship in March Madness! & for those who remember, Oden was a FORCE!

So IMHO – & I LOVED Durant coming out of Texas – but Oden was Absolutely the #1 pick, All day, Every day! He was just THAT good & he was Dominant on Both ends of the court…. So when you remember that after that 2007 Draft it looked like Portland had THREE future Hall of Fame players at the #2, #4 & #5 spots – If all 3 remained healthy & reached their potental I don’t see how Portland does not win at least Two or Three rings… B/c there is a Tru dominant 7 footer is SO rare people are quick to forget just how much a Big man who can scored AND defend opens up the Entire floor for Everyone else on the team… It is a MASSIVE advantage….

Here is a small example, look at the career of Marco Belenelli – in 2013/14′ Belleneli joined the Spurs & contributed to their Title winning campaign. Fans raved at the Suprs ability to cherry pick another contributor & we read article after article about how smart the Suprs were at scouting…. Belenelli averaged 11.4 pts & shot 49% FG% – The Spurs were Belenelli’s SIXTH team in 7 years! One year earlier, Belenelli shot a FG% of 39% for the Bulls – 6 years before that he shot 38% for the Golden State Warriors! In between he played for FOUR other teams & Never shot a FG% over 43% & that was ONLY one year, the other 6 before joining San Antonio were between 38% & 41% – that is how much an average player / journeyman Benefits from playing with a 7 foot future Hall of Famer…

Now imagine that Portland would have had a 7foot Center that commanded a Double team Every play, a 6’11” Power Forward that commanded a Double team Every play & a 6’6” Shootimg Guard who commanded a double team Every play b/c he could create his own shot at will….

A better question might be "How could Any team have Stopped Portland from winning Multiple Rings if those 3 players were healthy…." It’s a shame we will Never know but these things are fun to talk about b/c we realize how much Luck is nvolved in winning even in the case of the greatest players… These 3 potential Super Stars were ALL the same age – if we look at Kobe & Shaq, they were 7 years apart! As great as they were, they were not really contemporaries & they won 3 Rings… The Trailblazers "Could" have been a modern day dynasty… Great subject to bring up…

A  healthy Roy with Zero injury issues or Harden; to build a team around?

Roy. Harden gets a bit lazy sometimes, and at that same time gets him forcing it too much. Roy is one of the very few players I have ever seen that lets the game to him while is still able to have this on-switch and get his team out of a hole.

I think with the right point guard to hit open 3’s, and play atleast average defense, and a good bench they proably would of atleast won a champiosnhip. They would be playing the Spurs alot in the confrence finals, and Miami.
