It’s that time of year again: You know, the ‘highs’ of the draft excitement coupled with the all too familiar ‘lows’ of being a Charlotte fan in the lottery once again. Better stop by the liquor store before watching this year’s draft – haha.

I just stumbled upon a tweet from Chad Ford stating The Hornets are ‘MOST LIKELY’ to draft Mitch McGary at 24???? (He’s projected 40 on the mock board here) That’s closer to their 45th pick than their 24th!

    https://twitter.com/chadfordinsider/status/481514927832969217

Here I am having fan boy illusions of Lavine at 9 + Best talent available at 24 & 45. Better come back to earth REAL FAST.

Anyways what are your guys thoughts here? Is this reaction justified or am I overlooking something. I’m actually OK if Hornets go with McDermott/Stauskas at 9 – definitely fills a need. Not sold on Mitch at all though. (Also not sold on Elfrid Payton at 9 as seen on homepage here)

Is it just me or does anyone find it ironic the most talented man in basketball history doesn’t draft…well… on talent? Don’t get me wrong now – I totally get drafting winners, but after experimenting you have to take a risk sometime!

Lavine would be a big upgrade imo over Gerald Henderson at shooting guard plus he could take some of the ball handling pressure of Kemba Walker. And, as a Michigan native, it would be nice to see McGary go in the first round. We’ll find out in a few shortly.

Yeah I’m a charlotte fan too & draft nights have been so painful in the past. I see is unfortunately drafting Morrison 2.0 aka McDermott at 9 & McGary at 24…

im HOPING at 9 we take either Harris, Payton, Stauskas or LaVine at 9 & TJ Warren if he’s available or PJ Hairston at 24, then at 45 get a big like O’Bryant or is even be ok taking a chance on McGary at 45

I don’t know if I like Mitch McGary at 24. Yeah Josh McRoberts is leaving but didn’t they just draft Cody Zeller last year with the 4th pick? He’s a big, he can shoot from the outside and still bang down low like McRoberts. Just stick him in McRoberts place and problem solved. If they are going to select McDermott at 9 then just select a SG at 24 to fill up for Henderson who should be a backup on the bench anyway. (PJ Hairston is my thought.)

I think they take Stauskas at 9 and whoever is avalable at 24, right now I have McDaniels. Go Horents man I’m stoked for tonight, if we take McGary I will sob.

Base on my ideal that the Hornets will land a star or superstar in free agency and b/c I don’t the kool-aid most of these agents are serving with Doug McDermott, Zack Lavine, Hood or Stauskas with the 9th pick, don’t trust those guys.

I think that TJ Warren would be the next best player available in the draft based on talent, scoring ability, size and position. None of the other guys have the upside TJ, or can play 3 positions in the NBA like Warren could.

I know many flat thinking fans think "Hornets need a shooter", well last time I checked Charlotte wasn’t taking wide open shots and the last time the Hornets needed a shooter they took a ship of that drink and drafted Adam Morrison (Doug is better than Adam. M. though lol)

TJ Warren is my guy at the 9th pick for Charlotte, wish they would do it. Then the Hornets should target a SG with the 24th pick like PJ Hairston if he’s available then, but I’d doubt it.So once again take the next best player.

My picks for Charlotte if all goes well….  and get what ever else they need in Free Agency

    TJ Warren with 9th pick,

    PJ Hairston with 24th pick

and Deandre Daniels or Russ Smith with the 45th pick
