So Arenas has finally been waived under the amnesty clause according to ESPN…. Where will he end up? He might be a good bargain as I see him  taking less years and money to prove that he can still play. A lot of teams should be interested……

Also, the Magic have traded Brandon Bass for Glen Davis…… Pretty interesting move to say the least.

I think Arenas would be a good adition to the Bulls coming off the bench. We all know he can create his own shot (and sometimes be a bit of a chucker), and if he came off the bench to play maybe 16-20 minutes per game playing back up to Rose and also a little bit of SG. With the addition of Jamal Crawford (rumor?), they would have two more players that can give Rose the help he needs and also two more shooters to stretch the floor. I don’t know many other teams that’d be looking for an old PG with a history of issues to bring in, even for a low salary.

Someone will put in a bid and remember that high bidder wins, so Arenas has no say and, I would assume, that none of the teams can know what others bid. So if you put in a bid, you might get Arenas or you might not. That is kind of a pain for GM since he doesn’t know how to structure his team until the bidding is done.

I think he is worth a gamble to see what kind of game he still has. But I wouldn’t bid too much. He played 70 games last season and he did not play at the level of an NBA player. Was that just injuries and a down year? Maybe. Maybe he will be healthier this year. We all know that he was a heck of scorer for years. But he is a 6 3" shooting guard and if he doesn’t have his athelticism anymore, then he is probably done. Maybe he could reinvent himself as a distributor of some sort. But I don’t know if he can stop himself from putting up the shots.

Gilbert for the league minimum is still a steal. Some team will do it.

Also what’s the deal with trading amnestied players once they’ve been claimed off waivers? I mean theoretically there could be a lot of steals. Guys like Gilbert, Jefferson, Lewis at a few million could be very interesting for a contender at the dead line. A team under the cap could claim these guys then essentially act as a middle man for holding a bid for them. Could be a good way for small market/rebuilding teams to get draft picks/young talent. But I’m sure there must be a 3 or 6 month waiting period. Which for this year won’t help, because the deadline is 3 months after they are claimed off waivers. But next year when amnestied players are pickup up in early July, 6 months would be January.
