Sources also say Portland did not give up Batum either. Who would they have gave up to get him?
There's been some chatter Gerald Wallace may get dealt by Thursday's deadline, as ESPN's Chad Ford reported the Bobcats have "aggressively courted the Mavericks, Rockets, Clippers, Pacers and Cavs." There's also been talk of the Blazers. As Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports tweeted earlier Wednesday: "Portland is pushing hard and getting closer to completing a deal with Charlotte for Wallace, a league source tells Y! Sports." And now, according to Dwight James, Wallace is heading to Portland. "Just got off the phone with an NBA source who says his team believes the Wallace-to-Portland deal is 'done,'" James tweeted Wednesday afternoon. With Nicolas Batum already in at small forward for the Blazers -- an asset the Blazers were reluctant to part with when Denver tried to include him in a Carmelo Anthony deal -- it's not immediately clear what Wallace's role with the team would be. Though he could potentially be used in the team's frontcourt.
They traded a 1st round pick, possibly a second and Pryzbilla.
Thats the base at least. Maybe more expiring contracs and/or young players of no signifigance.
UPDATE: CBS's Ken Berger reports that the return for Wallace will include Andre Miller.
Portland has completed a deal to acquire Gerald Wallace from the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for Joel Pryzbilla and draft picks.
The Blazers evidently feel that with Deron Williams and Carmelo Anthony out of the picture, they are in a strong position to make a playoff push.
Even without star shooting guard Brandon Roy, Portland has held steady at fifth in the West. Denver is currently tied with the Blazers and Utah is one and a half games back, so Portland seems to feel that the path is cleared for them to hang on to a playoff berth in either the fifth or sixth slot.
Wallace, though not the player he once was, will provide the Blazers with another offensive option and will give them one of the better defensive units around.
This could also be a sign that Portland is trying to go all-in while Roy, who is scheduled to return tonight, still has anything left to give. Diagnoses have indicated that Roy may only have a year or two left of professional basketball, and the Blazers could be attempting to surround him with talent for one more playoff push.
So you trade Andre Miller whom is your PG and I would assume you get a PG in return. Shaun Livingston maybe? Doubt DJ Aug is involved.
Or will the Blazers move Roy to PG, and roll with Mills and Armon Johnson?
Next they go after Brooks.
I think it's a good decision for Charlotte to blow up their roster. They aren't going anywhere beyond mediocrity, so now is the time to make moves and rebuild, and gaining some expirings and draft picks helps them do just that.
As for Portland, this is a bold move for a guy with 2+ years left on his deal, and someone who has had a relatively mediocre season. Is this the type of move that truly makes the Blazers a legit threat in the West? Questionable. And if Batum is not involved, that means his PT has been cut, so their "develop with youth" plan has obviously been aborted.
I think the Blazers just saw an opening for the playoffs with the Nuggets and Jazz blowing things up.
Portland wants Aaron Brooks?
Send us Rudy Fernandez and Greg Oden and you've got yourself a done deal.
i dont get the bobcats, they give away their best players for nothing regulary
Please believe MJ has something to do with it. I'm not quite sure what Charlotte major needs are other then a really good Center besides what they have in Kwame Brown. I know MJ feels sh*tty for giving up on Chandler once again. WHEN WILL HE LEARN??????
If this goes down, I believe MJ should just quit.
Crash on the move huh ...ut for damn near nothing
Nets coulda used him like asap
That's a good point actually, Wallace would have been a good fit in Jersey with Williams and Lopez there now.
I think the Bobcats have pretty good potential to go on a run and make the playoffs this year, but trading one of Wallace and/or Jackson would help them financially, which is critical for them. Tyrus Thomas' contract, Diop's, Carroll's, and Diaw's are all hurting the Bobcats' flexibility in that regard. They aren't going to compete with the elite teams with the roster they have so starting over is something they need to look into.
Gerald Wallace is the last member of the original Bobcats I notice.
The link goes to a story that says "Wallace to Portland deal "Done"". It could mean so many different things, it could mean the deal was done, it could mean they are done talking to each other, it seems to mean the deal is dead. Still, cover their bases those guys at Hoopsworld did, lol. I hear the information we got from Hoopsworld is "Done".
I would like to see Shaun Livingston to Portland as a starter. Everyone is writing him off because of the freak accident. He still has something to prove IMO.
I believe this trade is pretty much official now.
According to a Wojnarowski tweet it is Wallace to Portland for just Przy and a second round pick. I would hope the Bobcats could atleast get a 1st round pick.
Correction: The trade seems to look like this...
Bobcats: Przy, Cunningham, 2 first round picks.
