He has been officially measured by Greek junior national team and he is now 2.18 meters (7-2 tall).

    http://www.superbasket.gr/i-12ada-gia-to-evropaiko-u18-kopikan-agravanis-ke-stamatogiannis/

     Papagiannis is listed there as #14 – 14. Γιώργος Παπαγιάννης 03.07.1997 2.18 C

He is they say now at 7-2 with 7-6 wing span and with 278 pounds in weight.

Already this summer he has played in FIBA U-19 World Championship and right now he is playing in FIBA Europe U-18 championship.

He also this summer has signed a professional contract with big Greek Euroleague club Panathinaikos and he will stay in Greece, as he turned down official offers to play college basketball at NC State, Oregon, St. John’s, and Kentucky.

The coach of Panathinaikos has announced that next season he will be in the main 12 active roster of the senior men’s team of Panathinaikos for both Greek League and Euroleague games. He will be the team’s 3rd string center behind Miroslav Raduljica and Ognjen Kuzmic.

Remember Panathinaikos is one of the very biggest clubs in Europe, so just making the 12 man active roster for both Greek League and Euroleague is very, very hard. Many players came to that club from the NBA for example and were quickly cut.

Next season Papagiannis will be like a NCAA freshmen by US classifications.

Here he is in YouTube, playing in top division of Greek pro league, and also in FIBA U-19 World Championship at age 17:

Looks like an interesting prospect. His size, posture, balance, and body movements instantly reminded me of one of my all-time favourite Raptors Rasho Nesterovic a great role player that played team basketball. Especially if he’s nailing those mid range jumpers consistently which is hard to tell from a highlight reel. Could be a quick riser on draft boards. Is he Greek though, Greeks have trouble translating to the NBA game…

    Just kidding.

Usually don’t start paying attention to prospects until they get into college nowadays but this is the first I’ve seen of this kid and he’s definitely impressive. Looks to have good hands/coordination and feel for the game on both ends but his fluidity and athleticism stand out most to me. Rarely do you see a player that big and young move so well.
