As many of you know, I am a huge Jazz fan, but I’m also a Jazz fan that looks towards the future of the team. I don’t like the pairing of Gobert with Favors (not many people do, and I understand why) Yes, I do agree that Favors can be used with Gobert but only sparingly, not consistently in the starting lineup. Last year Joe Johnson came on in the wake of Favors’ injury and really helped the Jazz find a 4, temporarily, that could pair with Gobert. This season (even though its still young) we’ve seen Gobert paired with Favors, and Favors has at times shown he can shoot the 3, but it hasn’t been consistent enough. Johnson is a veteran, and isn’t going to be around for too much longer. I think this season may be his last with Utah, and possibly his last season in the NBA, so Utah can’t rely on him for too much longer. Nor can they on Favors because he hasn’t shown that he can consistentely shoot the 3 well, but he has shown how good of a backup center or reliable veteran bench player he can be behind Gobert. They need a younger player to pair next to Gobert. That’s what I have been trying to find for the Jazz in the upcoming 2018 draft. I used to have a longer list than just those 3 that I listed in the title (like 9 players) but I have now narrowed it to three because of Gobert’s injury really showing how weak offensively the Jazz are outside of Gobert. Because Gobert will likely be out until middle of December, their record is going to be a lot worse than I what I was originally expecting. (6-10 games above the 500 mark) Now I’m thinking they could finish 6-10 games below the 500 mark and possibly even worse! if Gobert’s injury turns out be to worse than we thought. (I don’t think that will be the case, but regardless, the Jazz need to find a young 4 that can pair next to Gobert better than Favors can)

I wanted to watch last night’s game between Duke and Michigan St. and determine which of those three would really work best next to Gobert, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to because I got too busy and nor did I have time to record it. So I was wondering if those fans that did watch the game were able to see. Which one of those three can work next to Gobert. I can clarify what I’m looking for if you need me to, but I think you know what I’m looking for (and this topic is starting to get pretty long, so I’ll stop right now and listen to your responses)

P.S. I also wasn’t able to watch or record Kansas play Kentucky, so I wasn’t able to see Preston either. How did he look.

Preston did not play. he is under investigation for a car accident incident.

Bagely so far looks like everything the NBA is turning into. A perimeter big that can go inside. Wish he didnt get hurt yesterday because I wanted to see him against Bridges last night. Wanted to see how he matched up against a good talent like that

Oh Preston didn’t play wasn’t aware of that. Hopefully nothing turns up from the investigation, thus further pushing his stock back and causing him to declare for the 2019 draft instead of this upcoming draft. In that case, ignore that last part about Preston. I want to hear more about Bagley, Carter, and Jackson Jr.

I heard Bagely got hurt too, and I hope its not too serious, but what about Carter and Jackson Jr.?

Carter had a double double but didn’t impress me all that much. His most notable play was a flagrant foul on an elbow to an MSU player behind the play as they came up the court. He has an NBA body and moves fairly well but I don’t think his skill set is where it needs to be. He was only 3-9 from the field although his 6-8 from the free throw line looked promising projecting his potential to develop a consistent outside shot. I wouldn’t consider him to be in my top 10 draft prospects as of right now.

Jackson Jr. looked really good to me. He was 3-5 from 3 and looks incredibly fluid for a 6-11 player. His defense projects to be great and he looks better offensively than advertised. I was laughing at people saying he would go #1 overall in this draft a week ago but now after seeing him play a quality team I can see where the hype comes from. I wouldn’t put him at the top of my draft board but he is certainly in the top 5 after the first week of the season.

For overall talent, potential and fit for the Jazz Jackson Jr. clearly is the guy right now between the two. He may even be ranked ahead of Bagley by seasons end because his defense and 3 point shooting. I don’t think the Jazz will be picking high enough to get any of these players though.

First,  I really don’t think Utah is going to be top 10 in the lottery. So you most certainly won’t be in contention for Bagley. And you’re probably unlikely to be in contention for Carter or Jackson Jr.

So…none of them. I really don’t care how long Gobert is out. Even without him, they’re still not one of the 10 worst teams in the nba.

       What is second?

I think Utah could finish as the 7th or 8th worst team in the league if Gobert misses extended time. They didn’t look like a playoff team with him so even then they still had an outside shot at a top 3 pick. It doesn’t look like they will be in the mix for Bagley or Jackson but you never know. I think Carter could still be there outside the top 10 though he isn’t a great fit as he seems like a younger Favors and less versatile than the other two.
