This is a deep and talented draft, and I don’t know if you guys are have issues with your 50-60 range as far as who to include and who to leave out.

Who are your first 5 left out of the mock draft, and do you think they can make it back in?

    Here are mine,

    61. Xavier Thames – Thames is your typical Mid-Major stud who does a lot of things really well, plays with poise beyond his years, but he didn’t really test out as athletic or quick as I expected him to. He can do a lot of things really well, but to me he fits the role of a guy who plays a long time and has a very good career overseas. Still, he’s barely out. I only have Jerrelle Beinemon in because I like his versitility in the Spurs system, with the 60th pick.

    62. Alec Brown – Brown is a guy I have followed since he was a freshman, and I always came up disappointed. He never developed any toughness, barely gained any weight, but he does have a translatable skill, which is his ability to stretch the floor at the 4/5 spot. He’s also 7’1” so it’s not like he doesn’t have the height. I think he has a 50/50 chance to get picked, but I have to leave him out, for now.

    63. James McAdoo – McAdoo is a fairly well known player by now, and has a decent body for the NBA level, but he just doesn’t have a position, and after 3 years never even improved his FT percentage. With his uncle holding a front office position in Miami, and them having the 55th pick, he has a chance, but I just can’t get him in right now.

    64. Jahii Carson – In the past few years guys of Carson’s stature haven’t fared well as draft picks. Everybody’s favorite Mr. Irrelevant, Isaiah Thomas, was picked 60th, and Flip Pressey went undrafted. I think Carson can probably find a spot on a roster next year, but his stature and past history has him on the outside looking in, as far as my mock is concerned right now.

    65. Alex Kirk – Kirk is big, skilled, and measured and tested pretty well in Chicago. I pegged him at about 30 lbs heavier, but he came in relatively good shape, and does have the position to play the NBA 4 and 5. In addition, he can face up from 15 feet. He’s a pretty solid player, but solid all the way around without any one stand out factor often leaves you looking to catch on as a free agent.

The fact that you know 65+ prospects this in-depth is impressive. Thanks for frequent insight on lesser-known (at least to me) talents.

I mean, guys like McAdoo, Carson, and Thames aren’t exactly obscure.  IN fact, a lot of the guys you see at the bottom of mocks are 4-year college guys that we’ve become quite aware of through watching them in the NCAAs the past four year.

    mine is pretty similar.

i have thames, brown and kirk also.  the only difference would be…

andre dawkins – great spot up shooter, but struggled at la clippers mini-combine and came off as one-dimensional offensively.  struggles on defense and has questionable conditioning (noted in mini-combine).

jevonte reddic – 4-year player at mid major.  good size.  regressed offensively in sr. season.  injured knee at portmouth invitational and not sure how that will affect workouts.  comes off as "soft" to many scouts.

I hope for his sake, he does not get drafted.  I think he can stick on a roster but needs the ability to go the free agent route and select the best situation for him.  With a lot of "pick and stash" kids getting selected in the 2nd round, I could see CJ falling into undrafted territory.

Great analysis Joe Wolf.  Me personally being a Tarheel fan – I have had my own share of anger/disappointment with McAdoo. He gets dogged by everyone out here in NC watching the games (especially the tourney). I even blame him for that Kentucky loss his freshman year against the Anthony Davis team lol.

With that being said I still see him being picked up somewhere late, maybe even sooner than alot of people expect. I just think some team will put him in a reserved role where he will seldom call his own shots but will get rebounds and show off his athletic ability.

1.Laquinton Ross – too out of shape and lacking a true position

    2. Kendall Williams – too many quality PG’s ahead of him

    3. Cameron Bairstow – too many people not talking about him despite his NBA skillset

    4. J.Mcrae – too many draft and stash players at his position to push him out of the top 60

    5. J.Carson – too small but I agree he will be signed as a free agent after summer league

He was a two-time CAA POY and the MVP of the Reese’s All-Star Game at the final Four in Dallas. Played well at Portsmouth Invitational. Almost led Division I in Rebounding.

I think he will make the NBA – if not this year then after a stint overseas, like former Towson star Gary Neal.
