IknoBall12ParticipantWhat are some of your favorite battles youve seen? they can be high school, college, nba, or maybe your own personal battle if you hooped before. Ive got a couple:
LeBron vs the entire washington wizards team in the playoffs- I loved this because this is what playoff basketball is all about. Everything i love was in this series from a hated rivalry, to fights, to buzzer beaters. Lebron and Gilbert were constantly going back and forth dropping buckets.
Kobe vs Tmac(Orlando version)- Personal favorite of mine because These were the 2 guys who were on top of the game and battling for best player in the league at the time. TMac was literally the whole team and Kobe was also a 1 man wrecking crew. I think they both went for 40 sumthin and Tmac ended up winning the game. But their were some spectacular plays in this one.
Gilbert vs Kobe- Gilbert scored somewhere in the 60’s and Kobe in the 40’s but wow what a great game to watch. Even when kobe switched over to guard gilbert it was still unfair how gilbert was dropping him off.
OJ mayo vs Lance stephenson 05; Oj mayo vs brandon jennings 06 at the abcd Camp- These are on youtube so you can watch these if interested. The top high school camp in america hosted some great battles. hs junior oj mayo who was the top player in his class and at the camp went up against 8th grader lance stephenson in what was a great battle and really put lance in the national spotlight. Lance was doing well and talking trash. Then mayo got mad and went to work on the youngin. The next year Mayo was tried again by brandon Jennings. Once again the younger player jennings was playing well against the best until mayo got mad. It was over after mayo knocked down 4 back to back 3’s

I May Be WrongParticipantAllen Iverson VS Vince in the Playoffs. Both were in their primes and both put on a classic showdown I think.
luckily, this was when I was just starting to get into basketball so lucky me lol 😉

WizardofOzParticipantI’m a Wizards fan and I started hating LeBron after the first series. It’s a shame that the Wizards couldn’t stay healthy for the rest of the rivalry, or they wouldn’t have gotten swept every time.

SubZeroParticipantHow was Vince Carter not a superstar like Kobe is or TMac used to be (or should’ve been)? I was kinda young back when he played for the Raptors so can someone explain how he didn’t live up to expectations?

I May Be WrongParticipantThanks Jammin – i was shaking my head in how much I missed AI and if anyone needs any Hall of Famer evidence for A.I. just YouTube moments like these.
But to answer SubZero – I wouldn’t say he failed to live up to expectations. His numbers were amazing and he had great performances for the Raptors. Because of his play, the made McGrady expendable which allowed him to do his own thing. I think for VC, though, it was never getting over that hump in the playoffs. His team was with Alvin Williams, Mo Peterson, the Junkyard Dog and Antonio Davis who were all solid but just not quite enough to make it to the finals. And then he started getting injured and that slowed him down a little and then him and Toronto management just thought it was time to move on. He has been consistent and still is but he just one of those guys who never won that title. Still though, he has to be the BEST RAPTOR OF ALL TIME

SubZeroParticipantAh thanks for the insight. I’ve heard from Raptors fans before that he wasn’t as good as he should’ve/could’ve been

I May Be WrongParticipantyeah, it wasn’t a pretty end to the Vince Carter era. I think the day after he got traded to the Nets, on an ESPN interview, he was asked if he gave it his all in Toronto and VC said something on the lines of saying he didn’t always try for the Raptors towards the end. That hit the fans hard and they’ve been hating since

llperezwhen vince exploded onto the scene, he was being compared to jordan and being talked about as a guy who could become the best player in the game. He never came close to that and he argubaly played his best basketball his first 3-4 seasons. SO yeah, considering what was expected, he was a bit of a dissapointment.

ilike.panochasParticipantEffort and injuries derailed Carter’s career or prevented him from being an elite player for a long period. I always thought he was more concern about putting on a show for the fans rather than doing necessary things to win games.

didnt they say something like this to each other
Mayo scores
Mayo: "O.J. Mayo built to destroy"
Jennings scores and somehow Mayo had fell down during the play
Jennings: "O.J. Mayo built to fall on his ass"

torontoraptors10ParticipantThis is how bad it got for VC…. Worst than LeBron James coming to Cleveland in my opinion. I’m telling you CB4 will get it WORSE.

d-grizzlyParticipant1. Kobe Bryant vs. Doug Christie – 00-01, 01-02
2. Kobe Bryant vs. Shane Battier – 08-09
Epic Offense (kobe) vs. 2 of the best defenders of all time.

omphalosParticipantMJ vs Drexler in the Finals was pretty awesome. He wanted to put any doubt about who was the better SG out of the minds of fans all over the country.

omphalosParticipantAlso, wow, I just watched the Mayo vs Stephenson battle… what happened to OJs swagger? That dude went crazy at that camp, and now he just seems lost in the NBA. I hope we get to see the Mayo of old again sometime soon.
