CardiacKidParticipantHe was really hyped up this year and disappointed many. Most say he should return to school and develop but I think he will come out. His situation is similar to Deandre Jordan, a highly recruited Super Freshman who failed to live up to the hype and dropped to the 2nd round but now look a DJ he’s in for a big payday this summer.
Melo could be a late 1st round pick or mid 2nd round pick depending on how he does at the combine. Strengths are rebounding, blocking shots and setting good strong screens
Teams of interest:
New York Knicks- Of course they’d have interest in him as he would compliment Amar’e if he comes out and falls to them in the middle of the 1st round then I’d take him but if they pass on him and he’s available in the 2nd I’d make a push for him
Houston Rockets- plain and simple they need a center though he’s raw I love his potential
Golden State Warriors- similar to New York in their style of play David Lee and Ekpe Udoh are not centers so this is their biggest need
Atlanta Hawks- Need frontcourt depth and should look to get this young guy and let him develop with Horford and Smith and create a solid 3 man rotation

delfamParticipantaccept DeAndre Jordan showed extreme athleticism as actually showed signs of being good. Fab Melo sesems like he has no clue what he’s doing out there and has no post moves at all.
IMO Melo should follow the Roy Hibbert model and stay all 4 years and then maybe he’ll gradually develop.

JoeWolf1The difference between Jordan and Melo is that Jordan actually played and contributed regularly to his team including the NCAA tournament. Jordan didn’t wow anyone and disappointed people who had him ranked in the top 10 or 15, but he played a role in his team’s success while in Melo’s case it’s more of a surprise when he does something well.

Dale WorthingtonParticipantFab Melo is one of the worst basketball players I have ever seen.
It brings great pain to watch him feebly attempt to get up and down the floor.

sammybuckeye13ParticipantDale Worthington, you said it. I watched every SU game this year and he is honestly one of the worst players I’ve ever seen.
He and Jordan are only similar by virtue of being talented raw 7-footers. Jordan averaged 8 and 6 in 20 minutes. Melo averaged 2.3 and 1.9 in 9.9 minutes. He would start every game and then come out at the first timeout and occasionally not return to the game at all.
There is nothing nice that anyone can say about his game if you watched him. He’s just big and is sometimes effective if he can stand in the lane without drawing a foul but unfortunately that never happens. 1.8 fouls in 9.9 mpg – 2.3 points in 9.9 mpg. Do the math. We’ve seen some pretty ridiculous things like Daniel Orton going first round last year but at least he showed that he could move on the basketball court and had good bball IQ on the defensive end. Melo is a giant turd.

beard20ParticipantFab is nowhere close to as athletic or powerful a player Jordan was at the same age. Yes Jordan disapointed alot of people with his play in his Freshman season but he also showed huge potenial sometimes. With Melo i dont see that. He looks lost out there half the time

First on Melo, he struggled to get up and down the court for more than a few minutes at a time. Forget that he had all the troubling signs of unskilled bigs (no touch, range, hands, feeling for the game, or ability to avoid fouling), he couldn’t stay on the floor because he was winded. He looks the way a center prospect is supposed to look, but that only goes so far. There have been big men who suffered from asthma who have been able to stay on the floor longer than him. Maybe some team falls in love with the size and frame, but there isn’t such a shortage of size that any team would be wrong to pass on him. Unskilled big men can always be found. Even when they find a fit, they still aren’t as good as guys with skills.
Now onto DeAndre Jordan and some of this might be redundant, but he still is not good. He is on the Andris Biedrins development plan, and Biedrins on that current contract is as overpaid as anyone. I am always willing to grab a big body in the second round, but DeAndre wasn’t some kind of steal. He was awful for a year and a half, and after sinking a $1.5 million into him he is a functional by Clipper standards. By that I mean, good enough to get on the highlight reel and bad enough to help get them beat because he isn’t smart or skilled. If some team is dumb enough to pay him big money, then maybe Mark Cuban’s wife needs to take his checkbook away.

mjayb77ParticipantI do agree that he has looked like a bum for most of the year and should return to school. However, with so much made about Mozgov in the Carmelo trade, he could come out and get overdrafted at the end of round one into the middle of round two. A team like the Celtics could draft him, store him in the D-League for two years and then call him up and hope he develops.

In the NBA yes! In college? Hell no he didn’t.
