dmo21ParticipantSo the main guys have been picked up already this summer, leaving us with the leftovers. So here’s a list of my Top 15 free agents that are left, according to my knowledge (no verbal/written agreement with a team).
- J.R. Smith: Looks like he’ll probably go back to the Cavs, but I don’t know how much they want him (even though their roster says they need him). Could also see Sacramento take a chance on him.
- Josh Smith: He can still be a productive player (I think he’s still a starting caliber PF) even with the poorer years in Detroit. Links to the Clippers and Sacramento make sense. Could still stick with Houston, but I think he wants to go to a place where he can play a bit more (less minutes with a young and healthy Jones and Motie).
- Kevin Serpahin: Best center available. Big body with some skills. Dallas, Clippers, and Indiana made sense, but they have since made some pick-ups of their own. No team really has a dire need for a center of his pay range right now.
- Darrell Arthur: Solid backup bigman who can stretch it a little. Not going back to Denver. Possibility to the Clippers. Would be a good fit in Sacramento, so I don’t see them picking him up.
- Norris Cole: played pretty good as a back up once he got to New Orleans. Indiana and Memphis could still use a good back up PG. Maybe Philly picks him up to be a distributor.
- Jameer Nelson: Proved that he can still contribute, even outside of the confines of Orlando. Will probably go to a playoff team that needs a veteran backup guard (hence why he opted out of Denver). Maybe Chicago or Memphis?
- KJ McDaniels: Played awesome on Philly and then got no playing time from Houston. Probably wants to go somewhere he can actually play again. Possibly to Portland or the Lakers where he can get some playing time with a bottom dwelling team.
- Alexy Shved: Russian combo guard with a poor shot. Will probably be kept in New York.
- Tyler Hansbrough: Psycho T is still trying to prove he belongs in the league even after many years of contributing to good teams. Doesn’t look like there is much room for him in Toronto anymore. Good fits in Brooklyn and the Clippers to be a scrappy rebounder.
- Jason Terry: Jet can still be a viable veteran option to a playoff team. Maybe back to Dallas or a place like Chicago to add a guy who can create for himself.
- Carlos Boozer: Another old guy that can produce some offense and that’s about it. Could get some playing time in Indiana or with the Clippers. Would be nice to see in Memphis with the slow offense, too bad he doesn’t play enough defense for that team. Maybe to Milwaukee to add a veteran presence.
- Andre Miller: Another old guy who actually put up good numbers when he started in Sacramento. Maybe Mephis or New Orleans where a good passing guard is key to the offense and they can pick up for his lack of defense.
- Luc Mbah A Moute: A long and active defender. Could be kept in Philly as he has a relationship with Embiid (and they have to have some NBA players on their team, right?).
- Henry Sims: The big man that got to show his skills in Philly. Too bad all they draft is other big men. Could be a good low risk pickup for Brooklyn, Dallas, or the Clippers.
- Michael Beasley: The enigma himself. The potential is still there. Don’t really know who wants him, but it’d be cool to see him go to Philly and have free range for a year.

TEQU1LAParticipantIf Clips can’t get Josh Smith then Elton Brand would be a solid pick to back up Griffin.

BiggysmallsParticipantI don’t understand why Josh Smith hasn’t gone back to Houston. Unless they have just shut down all communication with him. He can play with Howard, he’ll get minutes because Jones and Montiejunas aren’t SO good that they’d gobble up his minutes.
I’d still think about trying to flip one of those two for another guard to play with Harden and either push Beverly to the bench or just upgrade your perimeter depth because they were ravaged by injuries. Houston is still a top 5 team in the West, maybe better if Howard is healthy and they make the right moves.
Nobody will want Beasles…he’s been more places than Johnny Cash. There’s a reason for that.
I’ve always like Cole as a backup, if you’ve got a really good starting PG and need Cole for like 12-15 minutes, he’s not awful.
Also really curious about McDaniels and Sims. Both young guys on a terrible Philly team…I wonder if they developed some bad habits good teams are turned off by or something. I’d certainly try to bring both in as backups if I’m a team like Houston/Dallas/Clips or really any contender in need of depth pieces who can play if/when injuries occur. Its a loooong regular season.

trelos6ParticipantI’m surprised that JR Smith hasn’t received any offers. He is a streaky shooter, but when he gets hot, he can really score.
Also, McDaniels is worth a flyer as a low risk, high upside player who can play strong D.
Josh Smith will team up with his buddy Rondo in SacTown or re-up in Houston with Dwight.

dmo21ParticipantSounds like he is just going back to the Cavs and they are just sorting out the contract. That’s why I left him off the list.

TimberTrollParticipantI’d like to see Portland throw a max offer sheet at Tristan. Love that they already made OKC pay Kanter the max.
