Like everyone else, I have seen very little of Exum. With that being said however, from what I’ve seen he reminds me a lot of a big tony parker. He seems like he really can get into the lane and make plays the same way that parker does.

I think he has great potential. Any team that he falls to I think will be really lucky

6’6 Leandro Barbosa with more potential.

He’s not Penny, Shaun Livingston, or Michael Carter Williams they more explosive and more pure point guards while Dante is a combo guard.

Barbosa had no court vision. He would put his head down and drive to the basket with incredible speed. If someone blocked his way to the basket and helped he would try to find the open teammate. That was him running an offense.

He would take set jumpers and the occassional prayer because he had a very low jumpshot which was easy to contest/bother. At times I especially remember in head to head matchups with guys like Crawford he considered his "eqaul" he would compete defensively and be somewhat effective. Most of the time he was non existant.

In all he was great for a Mike Dantoni, Coach Karl, Don Nelson type offense. Although any halfcourt offense would get completely ruined by Barbosa’s style of player and limitations.

I do not see Exum as a 6’6 Barbosa with more potential.

Scouts don’t even know if Dante is a one or two, matter of fact they say he’s more of a two instead of a one. To say he’s Penny, Shaun, or Carter Williams is a lazy comparison. He’s not Russell Westbrook, all these guys he’s getting compared to are explosive point guards who could kill you with their scoring or passing ability. He’s not Ginobli because Ginobli has point guard like court vision. They way he plays is exactly like Barbosa except he’s more unselfish. Dante will be a good player and maybe even a star in this league but he will not hew a Penny Hardaway type of player. Penny and Shaun were being called the next Magic Johnson out high school and college. Michael Carter Williams was one of the college basketball best point guards that led Syracuse to the final four. Russell Westbrook was dunking on defender left and right and was also one of the main reasons UCLA was in the final four. We still don’t about Exum all we have is a few highlights on YouTube.

Why Barbosa? Thats a terrible comparison he was a north south PG with no east west or midrange game. His best move was a hesitation dribble and blowbye for a layup. He has a low shot release and was ineffective in halfcourt.

Exum is going to do this but taller and with more upside?

That seems like a lazy comparison.

I think perhaps he is labeled a PG is because he can’t shoot. Not being able to shoot for a SG is likely the biggest draw because the word shoot for SG is there for a reason.

I believe Exum has all the tools to be greater than all these comparisons, if he works hard at his game.  Right now he is just a raw talent with potential but proven nothing against high level talent consistently.

Exum has natural skill that you can’t teach, but to be great or even just good in the NBA, you have to improve your weaknesses or you will get exploited.  Time will tell if he has the desire to be great or just raw skill and potential never realised.

Thats why we love NBA draft time baby, hopes and dreams missed or realised! Can’t wait!
