Only 6 games today as only teams from group A and D will play(only teams of group B and C will play tomorrow). Quick look at the standings in group A:

    Israel 2-0                    9 am eastern:        Finland-Russia

    Poland 2-0                  11.30 am eastern:Bosnia-Israel

    Russia 0-2                   3 am eastern:       France-Poland

    Finland 0-2

    Bosnia 0-2

Group D standings:                                   Group D games:

    Czech Republic 2-0                                   8.30 am eastern:Lithuania-Belgium

    Belgium 1-1

    Ukraine 0-2

    Estonia 0-2

It will start to get interesting as we’ll try to look into who’s gonna advance, and who’s gonna face who in the round of 16. Reminder: The 4 best teams of each groupe advance. Always the same format: 1st of group A will face the 4th of group B,2A-3B and so on.

    .

I personally am loving the fact so many NBA players are playing for their countries.  Dirk, Parker, Pau, Bogdanovic, Saric (close enough), Hezonja, Batum, Fournier, Gobert, Diaw, Zaza, Schroder, Antetokounmpo, Papanikolaou, Koufos, Casspi, Belinelli, Gallinari, Bargnani, Datome, Valanciunas, Gortat, Mirotic, Ilyasova, Aldemir.

    France are looking very strong.

    Also, you can’t discount Spain.

Serbia, the current silver medalists, are playing well.

Finally, the Greeks are an outside chance.

Incredible finishes in the first 2 games.

First of all,Belgium with the upset over Lithuania 76-74 on a buzzer beating offensive rebound(shouldn’t have counted if you ask me but anyway). Belgium finished the game on an 8-0 run in the last 2 minutes, both teams are now 2-1.

Finland beats Russia 81-79 on a game winning shot by Petteri Koponen with 3.5 to go. Russia is now 0-3 and close to elimination,Finland now 1-2 and a strong chance to advance(Russia still has to face France, which will likely mean a loss)

Latvia defeated Czech Republic 72-65,no undefeated teams anymore in this group. Wide open.

And what a finish in Montpellier:Bosnia wins at the buzzer against Israel 86-84 in overtime after trailing by 15 during the game, tying the game at the buzzer on a desperation 3 by Kikanovic(a center),then trailed by 7 in overtime came back to tie it,and finally sealed it with 0.2 left thanks to Kikanovic again, after a great set up by naturalized player Alex Renfroe. Bosnia is now 1-2,Israel 2-1 and Israel still has to play France and Poland, likely the two best teams of the group.

Israel will be kicking themselves for not fouling there in the end.

Estonia stays alive and beats Ukraine 78-71.

France had a hard time beating Poland 69-66,which is starting to be worrisome to me . We’ll see,or Poland might actually be a terrific team. Rest day for all these teams tomorrow.
