ESPN reports Blake Griffin a lock for team USA

This is my first post so take it easy on the negs please.

Source: http://espn.go.com/olympics/summer/2012/basketball/story/_/id/8137827/20...

"Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin has been elevated to a lock to make Team USA's Olympic squad, according to sources close to the process, leaving USA Basketball coaches and officials with essentially five players for two remaining roster spots."

Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad choice for team USA? Despite the lack of bigs due to injury, I really can't see Griffin's game translating well to the style of play in europe. Even though his atlethicism will cause problems for some euro bigs, if griffin is already a below average defender by nba standard i think he will struggle even more to keep up with most pf's who can shoot 3's. He is also a mediocre shooter and still inconsistent facing up despite some notorious improvements during the season. Just wanted to get your feedback on this, so tell me what you think.

I think this is just a precaution due to us being short on big men because of injuries and such. We'll more than likely be playing with LBJ at the 4 quite often anyhow.

I agree with you. Blake is a bad fit for international basketball because he is not very skilled at this point in his career. We have so many big men injured that we don't have a choic but to bring him in. As Raef said, it won't make too much of a difference because Lebron will be playing the four. As Blake works on his shooting and defense, he should be a much more valuable asset to team USA in 2016.

I think part of the reason

I think part of the reason why Blake is getting the lock is because of his connections with the Duke staff.

His head coach in college (Jeff Capel) is an assistant for Coach K and BG is around the Duke campus quite a lot in the offseason.

It was relevant and it just so happend to have something to do with Duke... (I'd say about 10% of my posts have something to do with Duke just as 10% of your posts have something to do negatively with Duke)

And I did it just for you.

Bro.

Marquis Teague – A very tough shooting-night for Chicago Bulls guard Marquis Teague. He missed 14 of 18 shots against the Golden State Warriors and finished with a +/- of 11 in 30 minutes in a nine-point loss. Teague just wasn’t on his game, dishing just one assist with three turnovers. The Bulls need help at the point with Derrick Rose recovering from a knee injury but Friday’s game showed he has a long way to go still.

Drummond entered the game for Greg Monroe with 2:50 left in the first quarter and quickly played to his strengths.

Building something special in

Building something special in Cleveland will require the handful of remaining veterans to sacrifice and play outside of their comfort zone so young players like Tristan Thompson and Zeller can grow. Fortunately for Varejao, he can play both center and power forward and once he gets used to playing at the four spot again, Varejao should be able to provide veteran support to all of the Cavaliers’ young big men.

However, in the NBA it is

However, in the NBA it is often said that one team’s trash is another team’s treasure. Two days after he was released by the Spurs, New York Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald signed Novak off the waiver wire. It was Novak’s fifth NBA team since being selected in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft.;uop79

When Novak became a free

When Novak became a free agent this past summer, the Knicks organization was determined to keep him in NYC. The Knicks were able to exceed the salary cap to re-sign Novak only after a surprising court ruling that led to a settlement between the NBA and the players’ union, which gave players claimed off waivers their “Early Bird rights.”]90-=9-=

The wing who has caught

The wing who has caught everyone’s eye in Toronto this preseason is Anderson. Anderson has been solid at both ends of the court and on a team with playoff aspirations, there is no room to sacrifice victories in order to provide playing time to rookies.

“Probably all of them, I just can’t say one,” Patterson said. “Jeremy Lamb (who was traded to Oklahoma City in the Kevin Martin/James Harden deal), from watching him when he was at UCONN, seeing the type of scorer he was, but he can also play defense, too. He didn’t really get praised for his defense in college, he was more of a scorer, but coming here he’s pretty good at it. He can use his length and he can use his quickness on the court. Royce, he’s basically a big man that’s a point guard all in one, I’ve been extremely impressed with his play. Terrence Jones, I’ve been following him since he was at Kentucky. I’m well-aware of his game and him as a person and playing beside him. The list goes on and on, these guys seem to contribute to this team in one way or another and it’s going to make us better.”

It was a surprise when the Toronto Raptors took Terrence Ross eighth overall at the NBA Draft in June, but after hearing head coach Dwane Casey’s explanation, the pick made sense for Toronto. Casey had scouted Ross personally before last year’s lockout-shortened season got underway and the young wing had exceeded expectations during his sophomore season at Washington.
