If Enes Kanter reaches his absolute ceiling as a professional player, which historical or current player would you compare that to?

    thank you

    Ceiling: Kevin Love

    Most likely: Al Horford

    Floor: Nikola Pekovic

Watching some of his highlights from before he went to Kentucky he was a big time rebounder and had amazing range for a big man. He is a bruiser and has a soft touch, many people forget he broke Dirks Nike Hoop Summit record.

    Rony Seikaly

With Kanter’s budding post game, including a nice variety of up and unders, paired with his speed and fluidity as an athelte, he reminds me of Rony Seikaly. I think Kanter is going to be very good, and I think he could even produce a little higher than Seikaly’s 16-17 ppg 10-11 rpg prime years, but as far as comparing him to a player I’ve seen, I see more of Seikaly’s game in Kanter than I do anyone else.

I don’t see the Horford comparison. I think Kanter has more offensive potential because he’s stronger and more aggressive. I also don’t think Kanter has the all-around potential and mentality that Horford has either. Horford’s one of the best big men in the game because he’s so well-rounded on both ends of the floor. He can defend in space, be the quarterback of the defense, is a great help defender and he can defend the post well. Offensively he can post some (not as much as he should but is effective when he does so), can PnR, PnP, is one of the best passing big men in the game and can hit a face up jumper. Kanter, although he might have more potential offensively, especially in the post, isn’t nearly as well-rounded. He’s not a great passer, can play with blinders on when he catches the ball, can be TO prone and defensively they’re not even close (despite Kanter having some decent defensive metrics, he’s pretty raw as a help defender.)

Not to turn this into a Horford thread but just thinking about his game , there aren’t many bigs who I’d take over him. He is truly underrated as a player because of his play on both ends of the floor. I think this yr will be his best yr since he’s finally separated from Josh Smith. I think Smith held him back offensively. It’s inexplicable that an inefficient, dumb player like Josh Smith would would get more shots than an efficient, versatile guy like Horford. He’s still playing out of position as a C, but he has the skills to drag C’s out on space and take advantage of them. I’m actually looking forward to watching the Hawks this yr. Horford/Millsap is >> Horford/Josh Smith. They complement each other better.

As for the Seikaly comparison, it’s not bad. I think Kanter plays with more power and strength than Seikaly. Seikaly could post, but he was more of a finesse player, utilizing his mobility for running hooks, turnarounds and face up blow bys. For a C in that era, Seikaly was undersized in terms of mass. Kanter’s not. He can bury defenders in the post, while having some finesse moves, also has the luxury of bullying defenders and finishing through them. I’d say he’s more like Pekovic in that manner, but more athletic.
