buckeye00ParticipantSo I have been a long time reader of this site, but I’m a first time poster.
Athleticism has always been extremely intriguing to me, as I’m sure it is to many of the posters here. I would love to get your opinions on if these guys are elite athletes(counting the overall package of speed, lateral quickness, vertical, and strength) or very good athletes relative to their position.
Semaj Christon PG. Xavier
Willie Cauley-Stein C. Kentucky
Glenn Robinson III SF. Michigan
Gary Harris SG. Michigan State

drk3351ParticipantI’d say Glenn Robinson is or very close to an elite athlete. And Cauley-Stein is definitely a excellent athlete for a 7’0 center.
And I know you didn’t mention this but to me there is a difference between an elite and a freak athlete. Nate Robinson, LeBron James, Gerald Green are freak athletes, and I don’t think any of those guys are.0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/20/2013 - 6:54pm #824025

buckeye00ParticipantI think that is a great point on “freak” athletes. There are very few players who can be definitively called a “freak” athlete and I that is obviously one of the reasons the hype for Wiggins is so high.

ilike.panochasParticipantNone of those guys are “elite” level athletes. But they are very athletic nonetheless. The only elite college prospect this year is Andrew Wiggins, everyone else is below him athleticism wise.

KreedOneParticipantbut I think the one thats the most elite of them all is Gary Harris. I read in articles he couldnt really play to his full athleticism because of a injury but after the surgery he should be back to his old self and I think hes really going to dominate this season and become a top 10 pick. I have high hopes on him!

justymlParticipantSemaj christon is an elite athlete..speed, explosiveness, and leaping ability are all high level on a 6’3 190 body..he’s compared to john wall who’s compared to drose and westbrook all 3 are freaks and semaj isn’t far behind

nick5354ParticipantIt is really crazy to think the standard is set so high as to what ‘elite’ athletes are. Some guys get knocked for being a average athlete, but in reality they are enormously athletic. Standard is so bloody high

ropeParticipantIt’s also possible that some of the most athletic players aren’t necessarily able to translate it into on court success. For instance, who was the kid from University of Detroit that sweeps all the dunk contests. I think he might have signed with the Globetrotters. He ought to consider looking into Olympic sports where his skill would translate.

PortlandTrailblazers21ParticipantGlenn Robinson is, I’ve met him and he can dunk it powerfully with only a walking start

Chilbert arenasParticipantI played with Landry Fields in a pickup game when he was still at Stanford and he did a drop step windmill in the game, does not mean he’s an elite athlete by NBA standards.

druneave3ParticipantElite? No, but very close. All 4 are incredibly athletic who can all be very explosive. But elite is asking for a lot. The first game I saw of WCS I couldn’t believe the way he ran the court with his long, smooth, strides. Crazy that he played WR as a 7 footer. Really high on him, if only that motor ran all the time. Really surprised, but extremely glad to see him go back to school. If that light bulb ever does come on for him and gets more consistent he could be what Tyson Chandler never was.
Although not elite, close is pretty good and certainly good enough for the NBA. This is a pretty good list of players. High on all of them except GRIII. But I wouldn’t rate GRIII that low, just higher on WCS, Semaj, and Harris.

justymlParticipantDon’t confuse elite with freak there are very few freak athletes in the league but the NBA is full of elite athletes and they come every year..also just because somebody has extreme hops doesn’t mean their a great or “elite” athlete. I know plenty of guys with crazy bounce but no speed or don’t really dunk in a game because they aren’t explosive with no first step

bouncem24949ParticipantSo if your elite at something your pretty much in the one percentile, right?
There are 5 elite level athletes I consider to be head and shoulders above the rest of college basketball
Andrew Wiggins, Aaron Gordon, Jahi Carson, Shaquille Johnson (just got kicked out of Auburn) and Deuce Bello.
WCS is close to being an elite level athlete for a 7 footer. The kid played wr in hs football so there is something more to be said about his agility as well.
GR III and Christon are good not elite athletes.
Gary Harris is a below average athlete in my opinion. His lateral quickness is seriously lacking, and his vertical leaves something to be desired. He dosent really have great quickness or speed either.
