He should have taken the freaking layup- he was wide open and would have tied it to send it to 2OT…rather than make that boneheaded pass for the 3

He could have pumpfaked and shot a faded jumpshot, reverse layup or up-and-under. I would take any of those over a runner-3point shot. I was voting for my Jayhawks, but Michigan got the job done. Cheers to them. Best game of the tourney so far.

Elijah Johnson is a joke at the point…also had the 10 second violation.

What a shocker! BMac went completely AWOL over the last 16 minutes of the game.

0 POINTS OVER THE LAST 16 MINUTES OF A SWEET SIXTEEN DO OR DIE GAME FOR BEN MCLEMORE.

The dude is flat-out not a closer.

He gets steak knives. No coffee.

Im convinced that Bill Self drew that play up… Elijah Johnson turned the corner too wide and hard and never even thought about taking that shot. From watching the play over and over, he knew where Tharpe was going to be. Jeff Withey was supposed to screen Tharpe’s man but he only brushed him and went to the rim.

    Check that:

0 points, 0 rebounds, and 0 assists over the last 16 minutes for Ben McLemore.

Whatever the opposite of a closer is, he’s that.

Elijah had no angle to take that shot IMO… They rode him out too far, it wouldve been a terrible angle to shoot from. He wasnt really wide open if you look at the replay. He initially had a step, but it step was more towards the baseline than the rim.

Love my Jayhawks but Elijah Johnson did a real airhead play. Much respect to Michigan also Trey Burke must have the biggest nuts in college ball,he is always taking the big shot.

I’m sure that was the play Bill Self drew up but for the love of god if you get a freakin WIDE OPEN LAY UP you take it! That was mind boggling.

    http://www.mobli.com/arashmarkazi/30089953/elijah-johnson-literally-passed-up-a-game-tying-la

and before he got at that angle he had a STRAIGHT path to the hoop he went to that bad angle himself all he had to do was go up, show the the ball left then up and under it right and he could’ve scored easily goin straight to the hoop

thats actually very correct….he had a straight path to the hoop right off the screen but didnt take it and tried to draw the defense instead…definitely shouldve attacked the basket

You’re right, at first he did have a straight shot to the hoop, but they were coming. The best thing to do would have been attack the basket when he first got the step on the defense as you said. But because he didnt, it was either a bad play by Elijah Johnson or a bad play written up by Bill Self. From watching the entire play and what happened, I honestly think he didnt take the shot because it was a designed play to kick to a wide open Tharpe for the win. I’m ready to hear Bill Self’s explanation of it.

the real question should be…WTF WAS HE DOING TAKING 12 SECONDS TO WALK UP THE COURT AND STILL NOT EVEN GETTING PAST THE LINE…ABSOLUTELY BONEHEADED…

Even with the bad angle, Johnson should have just taken a running bank shot, going into the body of the defender. Taking the wide angle in the first place was his biggest mistake, though.

I can agree with that….it does look like he was hell bent on making the kick out like he was trying to carryout a drawn up play no matter what…..

were you watching the same game? even if that shot had hit four guys in the head before going in the basket in no way in hell would that have been a smart or good pass still. it just would make it a lucky one.
