OhCanada-ParticipantBefore the season began I made a similar thread asking which one of the two are most impressive, and who you would rather have on your team. The majority seemed to like Favors athletisism and potential over Davis defensive understanding and athletisism.
I havent seen Favors play too many games but from what I have seen, heard, and read he has shown great potential, hes an extremely raw talent, who is often lost on the court, and has a lack of agressiveness. As for Davis he also is extremely raw, but he battles, stays within himself and his offense, and has a great defensive presence, but needs to muscle up badly. I havent seen too Favors enough to make a fair assessment, but who do you like more?

ilike.panochasParticipantAs of right now, their pretty even to me, so I give the edge to no one. Although Davis is playing better the last 5 games or so, tier stats are identical so far in the season. I would take Favors in the long term, Favors is the youngest player in the NBA right now and has more room to grow as a player.

Mr. 19134ParticipantDavis is 21 and Favors is 19. But at the same time Davis has innate abilities that enable him to get production. Favors has no feel for the game at all. I don’t know if he will ever get it and I love Favors as a specimen. I was a big supporter of the Sixers gambling on him with the 2nd pick. But did anybody see Paul Pierce dunk on his last night? Like Favors didn’t even jump or try to block it he just let it happen. There has been plays like this all season where he not only seems lost, but just not the type of player who has the mental aptitude to ever become a star. Also I don’t there there is a huge difference in their athletic ability, but Favors is at leat 4 inches longer and has a stronger frame then Davis. Another inexplicable mental lapse i watched Favors first hand make was against the Sixers where Brand lost control of the ball under the basket but got it back, Favors was still bent over looking for the ball when Brand was dunking. It was really bad, he just don’t seem to think fast enough to make plays, neither does he always use his athleticism. How many highlight dunks has Favors had this season? Not enough. Amare’ didn;t have the GTech pedigree coming into the league and was mashing on everybody.

steviechillzParticipanti feel like Favors has more potential and upside but both of them are about even right now….i think Ed Davis is goin to b a solid shot blocking bench player and solid 10pt scorer simillar to emecka okafor….while Favors can still be an all star bc of his athleticism and his age(pretty sure hes the youngest in the nba right now)….his potential can range from bein a Josh Smith type player to a Tyrus Thomas type player

ilike.panochasParticipantI feel like Davis is a low risk, medium reward player. Davis at his peak will probably be a 12PPG 9RPG 1.5BPG, I feel Favors has bigger reward if you develop him correctly and could be Al Horford later down the road.

sheltwon3ParticipantDavis is obviously more ready but then again that is not a surprise. Favors is raw and very young and could possibly top 7 feet if he grows an inch. He has the body frame even at his height to play some Center. Davis will probably just stay a power forward and a pretty good one but maybe less than an All Star. Favors could be a serviceable big man or he could be a 20 10 guy and future all star. Right now if i had to choose on for a game today it would be Davis but long term Favors all the way.

Mr. 19134ParticipantThey are obviously not even right now. And Davis is already on pace to average more then 1.5 BPG. I could see him peaking at 17, 11, and 2.3.

Stanford hoops1I agree. when you watch Favors you can tell his skill level is low and he does what he does because of his physical ability ( jumping, long arms) He’s still young and can improve but his skill level is lower than i thought it would be and ive always been lower on him then most people on here who thought he was a game changer/Micheal Beasley type. Maybe he will surprise me and end up being that type of player but i seriously doubt it

butidonthavemoney80% of people on this board compared Ed Davis to Brandon Wright before the draft.
Who wants to back that up now?
Either way, nothing has changed since before the draft. Both players are producing EXACTLY what they were projected to, which is kind of rare.

Stanford hoops1Most people Said Favors would dominate after the McDonalds AllAmerican game. Those people have also been silent( when i disagreed and said he wasn’t that skilled i was branded a hater..or my favorite line " its only ten games wait till the season goes deeper or wait till the middle of the ACC season")

OhCanada-ParticipantLol Butidonthavemoney 80% of the people on this site compared Derrick Favors to Dwight Howard. Out of college Favors and Davis’ stats were extremely similar as well. Davis may only have the potential to end up a 15-ppg, 11-rpg, 2.5-bpg guy but the difference is he plays good defense, makes solid plays his team needs down the stretch and when they are struggling, and not only shows greaat leadership potential but has tenacity and the type of aggressive mentality we see from Joakim Noah. Favors imo just looks like a hunk of raw athletisism mixed with a perfect NBA body. Hes lost and as weve seen with guys like Andrea Bargnani, JR Smith or even back to guys like Tim Thomas, that rarely goes away.

butidonthavemoneyI love Eddie Davis. Always been one of my favorite prospects. Would have loved to see the Jazz draft him because of his defensive activity and shot blocking instincts. Offensively, he’s raw but he has potential here due to his great touch and footwork around the hoop.
Seriously, he was fun to watch in college because he was always moving on both offense and defense. Hard worker on the court. I don’t see an all star but he’s going to be a great NBA player.

Snubs15ParticipantDavis has underrated athleticism. His max vert was 36” which was better than favors, his sprint time was faster as well as his agility speed. He also has a much better IQ than favors. Davis is a smart defender for a rookie, he isnt foul prone and doesnt leave his feet for pump fakes as much as most young players do. He plays his ass off the whole time hes on the court and he contests every shot that gets thrown up. Hes not afraid of geting dunked on which alot of big men are.
As of right now, give me Ed Davis
