The Earth shattering Wall or Cousins debate for the Wizards...
Wall or Cousins...I know Wall is # 1 guy on everybody's board...but why not Cousins...I'm thinking like a GM here when I say this...I don't think you trade Arenas without Wall...and I don't think they buy him out either...I really does seem like the worst place for him to drafted right now...I think The Clippers would have been a better place for Wall IMO...The Wiz do have cap space with the salary Dumps of Jamison and Caron( 2 guys that actually didn't have to go) Arenas was the man behind the wheel of that train wreck...Plus if you factor in team Needs...and see Blatche and McGee with no depth behind them...And you factor in the fact that Cousins is the best big man prospect since Greg Oden minus the injury factor...Why is I'm the only one that Feels like They Can Get Cousins and look smarter 3 years from now...5 years from now...Draft Night Maybe???...He's a great big man with some questions about his personality...I know that makes it harder to pick him...but what 19 year doesn't have a chip on his shoulders...I think he'd be the next young great big...A top 10 Center If you start him there...He's more skilled then half the Bigs in the League Today...Why not take the Risk...why start Wall over Arenas day 1 or force Arenas over to SG...It could backfire and get them the worse record in the L/....Just think the worse Cousins will be next year is the 3rd big or Starting Center...The Wizards will take on a Jail Blazers Rep... But that was good and almost took out the Dynasty Lakers Shaq Kobe Duo...The cap money they have can get them a roster take can compete in the East...They are only a full season of Arenas and Cousins ...an addition or two way from being back on track...they will have a stain of the Arenas gun thing around until they succeed...IMO Cousins is the Pick...It may shock the World but that's the best thing for the Wizards...I do think Wall is Great but we need to look at what a team really needs going forward....
This post is basically pointless because its going to be Wall. I could very much see debate about cousins and the 2nd pick, but not the 1st.
Here are your arguments:
Blatche and McGee dont have backups....
Arenas might not work at the 2...
Cousins could be the better pick in 3-5 years...
With the first pick, one of the worst teams need to go for a need rather than the best player available..
Come on man... Wall is the pick and Cousins could end up slipping all the way to 9... You never know.. Cousins has so many questions about his game... You even said that he would probably be a backup to 2 young bigs...
Wall is going to be the man from day one in Washington.. They are going to tell Arenas that and he is either going to accept his role or they are going to exile him just like the Knicks did to Marubury..
I agree that Cousins probably fits better in Washington, but can't they just trade down a few spots to either Minnesota or Sacramento and get another pick and/ or nice prospect back?
For example, I can see Sacramento doing this trade:
To Washington: Donte Green, 5th Pick (Cousins, if he's there)
To Sacramento: John Wall
Donte Green?? No... For the first pick in the draft, with a superstar available, Donte Green isnt going to cut it... Who wants a big man who doesnt defend or rebound and just shoot all the time?? That is not worth the first pick..
If they really want to get Cousins they should wait to see who drafted Cousins then get as most as they can from the trade. I don't think they want Cousins that much
i see your point, but if i were a gm, i would definitely take wall. the main reason for this is you will never find a point guard with his ability either in the draft or free agency. i think the wizards are in a pretty nice spot personally. blatche and arenas give this team a ton of versatility. blatche is 6-11 250. that's a size suitable to play center in the east. arenas is 6-4 215 and has all the skills to play sg (which i think is better fit than shoot first pg anyways). with that alone, you have to take wall. there are no john walls in free agency. what there is though, is a ton of pf's (boozer, stoudamire, lee, bosh, nowiztki (maybe)). even if washington can't land a big name 4, there are plenty of servicable frontcourt players like jermaine o'neal and tyrus thomas and there will definitely be some names around with their other 2 picks (lawal, brackins, vanardo, booker).
i honestly think the wizards take wall, try for lee or boozer in free agency and take a frontcourt player with their 2nd round pick. then with their last first rounder, they could go for a euro investment or go after a wing like crawford or ebanks or robinson.
Wow... I didnt even read your post scarecrow. I just saw the topic and went on about my business. Wall to the wizards is a no brainer. If the NBA was like the NFL, the wizards would've already signed wall
Yeah I agree that Wall would be the pick...but Cousins is not falling to 9th...He's top 3 IMO...The Nets will take him over Favors...The Owner is a smart guy...Favors is by far the bigger mystery..Cousins has to grow up a little bit...that Russian Billionaire paying your salary should make him grow up...Cousins is the best big in the draft..It's not really even close...We could argue that Monroe is more skilled but I think not....He's not the Beast inside Cuz is ....The Kings would be good trade partners for the Wizards..They could get JT or Hawes and Greene and the 5th...I also think the Kings can offer that deal to the Wolves for Rubio and It be a good deal....Hawes/Greene and 5th for Rights to Rubio or Wall....
cuz cousins is a fat slob whos going to be a bust its that simple
Nobody's mentioned that for a team that's undergone a roster makeover and needs a positive face, John Wall is hands down the most marketable player in the draft and he's ready to be the face of the franchise. If/when they move Arenas, it's all eyes on Wall (it's going to be all on him from the start anyways).
Basketball wise, from an offensive point of view, Arenas c/should end up getting alot of open looks with the way Wall will be slashing to the hoop. As ball-dominant as Arenas is, can anyone imagine how deadly he'd be if he could master coming off picks a la Ray Allen/Reggie Miller/Rip Hamilton? I think the Wizards wait and see how the Wall-Arenas combo works, then decide what to do with the latter.
QWhy's he going to be a bust...because You said so...U sound like a hater Kane Burger...He needs some conditioning but who the hell doesn't...are you a body builder...Calling people fat???I see you point...I guess all the other big men are in fine physical shape and that's why they're better...Wouldn't guys like Wall and Curry last year have been called skinny...crack head skinny...KD and KG were both crackhead thin...I'm skinny too...I get 10 boards a game a my 20 and over league over big guys...I'm only 6'2 170 ...
Scarecrow whats makes you think the Nets will take Cousins over Favors. Cousins is a Center and they have brook Lopez. Favors is a need for them at the PF spot. Please tell me why you think Cousins will go to the Nets? Please
This is off Insider by David Thorpe (Scout Inc):
No. 1 Washington Wizards
Need: The Wiz need help everywhere. Their best player is Gilbert Arenas, but he'll be on the trading block every day for the rest of his contract, so there's no worry about his meshing with whomever Washington takes. And that person pretty simply has to be the best player from this class over the next five-plus years, not the best guy today. That kind of superstar should help create a new identity and sell tickets. In essence, with this pick, need equals value.
Value: The best prospect in this class, when character, maturity and talent are all mixed in, is clearly John Wall. If DeMarcus Cousins had Wall's head and polish, he'd be in the mix here. But Cousins showed up fat in Chicago, clinching the deal for Wall. The fact that Wall seems ready to take on the burdens of being a superstar, loves to pass and is a competitive jet -- meaning he'll be fun to play with -- is an added bonus.
Second paragraph, second sentence.
Cousins reminds me a lot of Chris Washburn, whether he ends up like Washburn is up to him. All the talent in the world but will his mentality hold him back? I have been hearing about Cousins being overweight and needing to get in top condition over the past 2 years and havent seen a significant change yet. If his work ethic changes he will be a star but he needed to show scouts this prior to the draft, which he hasnt. So thats too big of a question mark to gamble on when you have a unique talent like Wall.
Cousins' favorite player is Pau Gasol.
The fact that his favorite player is a skilled big man with great fundamentals, not just a dunker, tells me something positive about Cousins.
