Dgtool2ParticipantWho do you think will be this year’s draft bust?
I pick Noah Vonleh

JustForThoughtParticipantTyler Ennis – think he could go on to be like D.J Augustine
Gary Harris – If Ben Gordon isn’t an elite player in this league with the hype he had coming out of UCONN what makes Harris different?
Julius Randle – he won’t live up to the lofty expectations I understand he is very talented and I hope he proves me wrong but there’s always one "elite" prospect who doesn’t come close to their potential whatever the reason may be.
Noah Vonleh – he will be good but I don’t think we are looking at a future All-Star PF.

Kinguy11Participant… and Ben Gordon has a career averge of of 15ppg. If Harris comes close to matching that on the offensive end he couldn’t be classified a bust.

SpartanGloryParticipantI think it’s funny how people think Harris will bust, even though no one has projected him to be anything more than a solid starter, which I think he will be better than that. Even more amusing is that hardly anyone has mentioned McDermott as a bust when he is slotted at 8 on this website, and isn’t physically capable of playing a lock of D. Literally, his only skillhe brings to the nba is jump shooting. Pretty ridiculous and uneducated assumptions from a lot of people on this site.

timinator1ParticipantWhich isnt exactly a bust, but isn’t setting the world on fire. Scouts are worried about Randle, but I think he’ll be a Millsap comp when all is done. Which aint bad.
My biggest worry is Wiggins. There’s a huge chance that he’s Gerald Green 2.0.

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantGerald was/is a cocky guy, Wiggins isn’t. Gerald’s faults were the fact that he couldn’t defend a dead dog and wasn’t coachable, which is completely the opposite of Wiggins.

IhateusernamesParticipantI’m gonna be unpopular here and pick the forums baby Joel Embiid.
I don’t think he lacks taken tat all. I’ve just heard about the unpolished upside of so many big men over the years that turned out to be nothing.
Michael Olowakandi was a newbie to the game, the next Olajuwon, just needed coaching.
Hasheem Thabeet, next Mutumbo, good athlete, just needed work on his post moves.
Saer Sene, could touch the rim without jumping.
Bismack Biyombo.
African big men get a ton of hype, rarely does it pan out.
I see the upside, and the raw ability. Just usually when big guys dominate the pros they dominate college as well.
Tim Duncan was a beast at Wake.
Ewing wa was a beast.
Olajuwon was a beast.
even Andrew Bogut was unstoppable at Utah.
I wounld not gamble on Embiid over a sure thing like Parker.

tidhoParticipantI’m not going to suggest Embiid is a sure thing, but there’s no reason to say Parker is either.
I also thing its important to look at freshman stats for these college ‘beasts’ if you’re going to compare them to Embiid.
Ewing 13/8, Duncan 10/10, Olajuwon 8/6, Bogut 12/10……Embiid 11/8……wouldn’t write him off based on college stats.

strobox88ParticipantAll the big men you just stated that were "beasts" had more or less comparable stats to Joel Embiid’s in their first year in college. You can’t compare the senior and junior versions of those guys to a freshman Embiid. He could’ve become a "beast" in college had he chosen to stay in college longer.

I like joel a lot but what if….he is bust you have to entertain the possibility he moves and is built better the a lot of the African players you mentioned has a better offense as well but what if hes just a good college player?I think vonleh will bust I remember everybody saying this about tristantn and that about him he reminds me of Tristan good player but not what everyone expects him to be.
chirs bosh? chirs bosh had a drill for a mid range jumper athletic even tho he was thin used a arsenal of finesse moves he had a actually post game and face up . vonleh knocking down an open jumper doesn’t equal chris bosh the chris bosh now doesn’t have the responsibility of the raptors chris bosh so if you want a heat chris bosh then be my geuss and draft him because 9 times out of ten the open looks, rebounds, floor spacing etc aren’t going to be bosh-esque for vonleh because we have to take in consideration HE WONT BE PLAYING WITH LEBRON AND WADE AND A BENCH FULL OF SHOOTERS.
so you aren’t getting a raptors bosh
your hoping to get a heat bosh
but the team drafting him wont have the heat chemistry or players nor the certain he will even live up to the comparison of bosh. it read bust to me not because he will be horrible but because he wont be what you guys expect him to be.0 - Posted on: Tue, 06/10/2014 - 7:31am #916890

BallinmvpParticipantExum has a chance to bust, he a relative unknown but who knows if he goes to the right situation then he could be grwat but the risk is there. Lavine could be a bust if chosen by the wrong team and not developed properly. I actually think McDermott might struggle too if asked to guard 2’s and some 3’s. He is a good 3pt shooter and Savy offensive player though.

King CaluchaParticipantBust may be a strong word, but I think Marcus Smart will be a disappointment. He could become a defensive stopper but won’t probably develop playmaking or offensive game whatsoever. The same could be said about Wiggins, but his decision making is not as bad.

TenSecondTomParticipantAaron Gordon and Zach LaVine will be my picks. Aaron Gordon cannot and will not ever have a consistent jumper so at best he will be an athlete, defensive stopper type; that is certainly not worth the 6th pick in this draft. Zach LaVine gets talked about like he is actually a proven commodity when in fact, he didn’t find much success at the collegiate level. I think those who believe he will blossom into a star amongst grown men who are just as athletic will be sorely disappointed; he lacks essential elements needed to become even a good NBA player.

If I were the Cavs I would trade down a pick, until I end up with the last 10 picks of the first round.

Jester87ParticipantBen Gordon was very good early in his career and before going to Detroit. He averaged 18.5 in his 5 seasons in Chicago (21.3 per 36 minutes), 20.2 in the playoffs (. He got worse when he went to the Pistons but he was horrible mostly because of his contract, not because he couldn’t play. Also, many of his struggles were (and still are to this day) due to his bad attitude, as far as I read once he got paid he stopped being a humble and hard working guy as he used to be during his time at UConn and Chicago and became sort of a diva. You never know how much truth there is behind each of these rumors, but the fact that Charlotte waived him after the deadline to join another team means he has done something to piss them off.
So in the end being a Ben Gordon kind of player, especially Ben Gordon in his best days, when he was averaging more than 21 ppg and giving all kind of troubles to the defending champions in the playoffs, isn’t a bust at all, especially for a guy whose draft range is likely 8-15, if any it would be a steal (if you don’t believe it, just take a look at this analysis http://www.82games.com/barzilai1.htm and what is the median value of picks from 8 to 15).
By the way if I have to say a name of a guy who’s going to be drafted very high, I’d say Vonleh too. He has lots of things to like, great size, athleticism and raw skills (touch, shooting ability, ball handling), but he’s far from a finished product and I don’t see great feel for the game. He has all the tools on paper to become as good as Bosh, but Bosh came in the league more polished, with a great footwork, good moves close to the basket, knowledge of the game. Vonleh has a low IQ, his footwork isn’t that advanced, he’s not a great finisher. He’s shown good touch on his jumper, but the sample is really small. I’m not saying he will be a bust, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens and if I have to throw a name among top 6-7 prospects I’d say he’s the one who’s more likely to be a bust.

And I’m not penciling him in as a bust, but I think he has more bust potential than Wiggins or Parker.

thricethefunParticipantWiggins- Will be good but not great
Embiid- Will have injury plagued career
Smart- Will be an average point guard in the NBA
Vonleh- Don’t see the hype at all
Lavine- Only hyped because of Westbrook’s sucess.
Mcdermott- More of a college player than a pro.
I think this draft will have quite a few busts.

SwatLakeCityParticipantMy pick to bust is Zach LaVine. While I do see the potential, I think he came too early in the end. He had an inconsistent freshman year at UCLA. And now after that inconsistent year you think he’s ready for the pros. Don’t think so, he should have stayed another year and dominated with Kevin Looney.
People think Vonleh is soft and is a bust because if his softness, well here’s my response to that: people said the same thing about Lemarcus Aldridge. And look where he is now.
