This topic is about Dwight Howard… I really want to know why people are really really hating Dwight. I understand the confusion he caused in Orlando. I understand no one knows if he will come back to LA. I understand he hasn’t produced the numbers he produced in Orlando. But WHERE DOES THE HATE COME IN AT? I mean its not warranted complaining such as he’s not playing good, or we need Dwight to step it up. You all are going all out saying things like he’s not a good player, he’s a baby, his free throw shooting his terrible, he doesnt deserve the ball, he cant shoot free throws.
    1, He had back surgery
    2. He tore his labrum
    3. He only missed a few games
    4. He’s ALWAYS been a terrible free throw shooter
    5. Came from being a number one option to only averaging 10 fg attempts per game
    6. 17pts 12boards per game…
    7. Top 5 in field goal percentage, blocks, and rebounding.

Statistics show this year, when he touches the ball, Lakers win.
This is a serious post, no need for any negs, I just want everyone to post their honest opinions and why they really feel the need to bash Howard.

It’s his whiny, non loyal, arrogant, non humble, fake personality.

I can see the whiny point. Over the last few years he has been very whiny trying to defend his actions in the media. But I think he’s been very loyal still. Even though the Orlando situation went down the way it did, he was loyal there. He played his 7 full seasons being a dominant center and gave them several runs into the playoffs. They made promises to him that they didnt keep so he left. Stan Van Gundy couldve saved his own job, he took everything to the media and brought unwanted attention to the organization. As for now, he could end a lot of rumors by committing to LA. But he wont because he is unsure. Not because he’s not loyal. But he’s 27, it’s not an easy decision to to decide if you want to commit long term to this LA team with Kobe Bryant who may play 3 more years and will always be the number 1 option and a shoot first player. Plus you have Mike D’Antoni who favors a style not really suited to Dwight’s style of play. Its a tough decision to make

I like Dwight but I think he was a product of dominating a league with no center’s who could play if there life depended on it for a few years. Now a few good center’s Noah, Chandler, Lopez, Pekovic etc have emerged they are by no means world beaters but can at least guard Dwight and added to all the injuries and no longer being the main man on his team, his stats are bound to go down. The thing that annoys most people about Dwight is his constant whining and not really knowing who he wants to play for.

You might say that you understand the whole drama in Orlando but you obviously don’t.Let’s see what Dwight has doen so far.He was whining about getting out of Orlando and his wish came true(in the expense of the Magic organisation)+plus he gets to go to a big market and a championship contender favorite before the season began. And what does he do there? He KEEPS on whining about not getting the ball enough or how he s unhappy in LA and stuff. To me he looks like an excessive crybaby with attention wh… syndrome. When he creates his own league the DH12 association or something he can do as he likes. But the fact that he keeps doing what he did in Orlando with LA where all those legends passed and had to share the ball and play together to win championships is amazing to me.

    to your points:
1)Understood everybody understands that i believe
2)He did and he said that he s going to keep playing.again understood but that might be the best PR decision he made cause if he went for a season ending surgery then bye bye LA
    3)Nobody said anything about that
4)Oh great so he should stop working to improve on the aspect of his game that’s the worst.Yeah that’s what all NBA players do.The way they found to stop the Lakers is called hack-a-howard much like hack-a-shaq though shaq was way more dominant than DH12
5)That’s not even an argument.Nash was a number 1 option in Phoenix(he would still be this year) yet he understands that this is Kobe’s team.I don’t see D-Wade whining about whther the Heat is Lebron’s team or not. This is Kobe’s team until he retires and he would be a fool not to understand that
6)Duncan has almost 17 and almost 10 with 2.7 blocks per game in less than 30 minutes per game. And his team has the best record in the Wester conference. So maybe Dwight should get some lessons from Tim or something.oh btw he s 37 years old

    1. He doesn’t play with the same fire and intensity he used to.
    2. He has shown no killer instinct like lots of other “Star” players.
    3. He messed with the Orlando Magic by opting in and then demanding a trade.

It is his personality that I just don’t like, he doesn’t seem to care if they win or lose. He could be talked of in the same breath as Shaq and Hakeem, but doesn’t seem to want to work for it.

Personally I like competitors and frankly he just isn’t being one. Rather than making the most of the situation he is in, he has become an anchor. 17ppg-12rpg is not what a guy of Dwight’s capability should be putting up, he should be averaging 22-23ppg and don’t say it is Kobe taking away touches, Howard is not being aggressive.

You have a reasonable response. His effort hasnt been there. Thats a very valid point and its frustrating for fans to see that. I blame most of it on him not being happy. He’a a guy that plays happy. Its been him his whole career. Poeple want him to be mad and angry but its just not him, I dont see it in him. And going from number 1 to the 3rd option is definitely a big adjustment. There are games where he has 4 shot attempts which should never happen. The games where you saw Kobe pass the ball, if you noticed, Dwight played much better and much much harder. If you feed a big man the ball, he plays hard for you. rebounding, blocking shots, running the floor will all be done more if he gets fed the ball more. Kobe avg 20 attempts and Dwight avg 10 is just not good enough. He’s terrible from the free throw line, but from the floor he’s 58%. He deserves more touches. Im watching the game now, it takes FOREVER for the Lakers to get him the ball. In Orlando the moment he ducked in, he had the ball. In LA he ducks in and waits and waits and waits.

Well I’m guessing I’m one of the people you are talking about calling him out. And for one, I have always called out Dwight and said he was overrated. I’ve said that his whole career and many said he was a top 5 player in response and he carried Orlando. But now watching him, I don’t think it’s just about injuries. He is constantly pointing fingers when the defense breaks down instead of having the attitude the paint is his. He can’t be relied on as a go to player. He gets points primarily from his teammates setting him up. They have gone to him for stretches to keep him involved, and when it’s Dwight going one on one, it ain’t pretty.

Hearing him talk about how it takes 3 years to gel, if you are the man, don’t talk to me about 3 years. You think lebron and wade were talking about 3 years when they got together?

In any case I don’t hate him, I call out guys all the time. I hope he stays in la and the lakers build around him. But he is not playing like a franchise player this year, and watching the lakers lose sucks so I’ll vent from time to time.

I cant argue against anything you said. But when healthy, I think he is the 5th best player in the league. He definitely carried Orlando. They had shooters around him and worked the pick n roll with him and Jameer or either fed it directly to him in the post. Yes most of his points are from his teammates feeding him, but thats not a bad thing. There’s only a few big men in the league that you can just throw the ball up to and say dunk it. Thats an advantage. His post moves are not the best but he’s still highly likely to score the ball one on one. He’s not Ben Wallace or anything, he can actually drop step, has a nice hook shot and shoots 58% from the field. However, he is hardly ever one on one which is the main reason you should play through him. 95% of teams in the league double team Dwight which opens up shooters. Common sense would say throw it in to him, let him throw it out for open shots. I agree he’s not playing like a franchise player, but he also is not getting franchise player shot attempts. I can tell that you are a serious Laker fan and you dont like to see them lose, so obviously Dwight is an easy target to blame their losses at. When he has been the main option, the Lakers have won.

1- first he relies to much on his athleticism, that’s why his stats are low (BACK PROBLEMS)
2- his post game is still raw, he think he kinda lost it
3- only scores if they team mates sets him or with alley oop passes
    4- bad free throw shooter
5-i don’t think he is taking the game seriously, don’t get me wrong i enjoy seeing the passion and smilling because they are playing the game they love BUT and i only say BUT
6-i don’t think he is a fundamentally sound player
7- Great Defender that’s the only thing i love
8- oh when he averaged 22.9, the year he learned with Hakeem i actually liked seeing him using the glass but i think he lost it video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slOlB_LfB-o
9- i don’t hate him really, i enjoied to watch him play in the 2010-2011 season because i saw improvement but now i don’t think so

it’s the same with Kobe when he changed his number to 24, i saw a different player
it’s the same with Lebron i loved to see him play with the cavs but i actually start to enjoy him more last year when he won his first ring and this year, Jordan is Jordan but my favorite way to see him playing and enjoied more was the 32 to 36 yr old then 38 to 40 yr old… i’m giving examples i don’t hate him but the Nets is the team he really wanted to be, i hope he can get better physically and mentally that’s all

I’ve always been somewhat neutral on Dwight. I think I’m starting to drift towards not liking him. I don’t like his mentality.

It irked me when he made that comment about it taking three years to gel. What superstar says that? Even Kevin Durant was saying last year that he didn’t want to wait and that he thought his time was now.

I also don’t like the way he’s always pointing fingers, pouting and rarely holds himself accountable. I’ve defended Dwight and mentioned his back injury, endurance, etc, but I honestly just don’t think he’s given his best effort at times this year at the defensive end. I don’t feel like he’s hustling at all. His numbers are somewhat deceiving.

When healthy, I do think he’s a top five player on defense and rebounding alone, but he’s definitely not a go-to offensive player. I hate the way he always brings the ball down and he’s not a good passer out of double teams.

Im not sure about him saying it takes 3 years to gel. I know he said it took Kobe and Shaq 3 years to win it. Which is true. That was in response to everybody bashing LA for losing games. Everybody’s blowing that out of proportions though. People pick and choose what hear. No one hears him when he says “Im focused on winning and winning now” or “My goal is to win a championship this season” He’s dedicated to winning also. Thats why he rushed his return and instead of sitting out the first 3 months of the season and fully recovering. His effort hasnt been there all season I agree. But as an athlete, it’s hard giving maximum effort when you dont touch the ball. He should average 15 shots a game. Thats not hard to do.
Tonight he’s 4-5 and 1-4 from the stripe. You know thats not acceptable, he’s stood in the lane so many times tonight with his man buried on his back and did not receive the ball. Would you give maximum effort when you’re repeatedly getting ignored? Better yet would you commit long-term? I understand your points, but you have to consider both sides to. Everyone is getting up atleast 10 shots. Several people says he has to be set up by teammates. Well if thats the case, out of a whole game, you (not you) meant to tall me you can only set him up 5 times out of a whole game?
One other question, for instance…If numbers showed that LA was 1-11 when Kobe scored 30 shots, but Kobe kept going out and scoring 30points while LA kept losing, does that mean Kobe is not dedicated to winning?

Guys lets face it, Dwight doesn’t and never will have that winnin mentality. He’s looked exposed in Los Angeles and his lack of skill level is starting to show now that he can’t jump or outmuscle everybody.

Thanks guys for giving me your feedback. I really wanted to know your true feelings so that I could understand them better than before. I hope you all understood the points I made as well even if you dont agree with them. By the way, I didnt neg anyone so I dont know where the negs came in at or why. Its kind of ironic when I told the guy he didnt make any sense, all of my comments got negged. Lol
