Lebron’s HairlineParticipantDwight Howard, who has been spotted frequently at Dodgers games, has decided to skip his own youth camp in Orlando to continue to ”rehab” his back, the camps costs $200. I have lost all respect for Dwight, first he gets his coach and Gm fireed, draws the ire of his fans due to his antics and inability to make up his own mind, now he is not going to be there for the kids that signed up for his camp to learn from him. No excuses why he can’t attend, training camp doesn’t start until October he still has plenty of time to rehab. Dwight sucks

For_Never_EverParticipantMaybe a stupid question. These camps so many players have them under their name. The players the camp name is under, do they own and pay for the camps other than the kids ?

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantYes the players are sponsors of the camp also. My friend went to the LeBron James skills academy and he got a ton of free stuff from LeBron

the I in winParticipantFor the players the camps count as volunteer time and the free stuff is a tax write off, still a great thing for players to do but the player aren’t really giving much for what they are getting out of it.

WinterSoldierParticipantI think a lot of people are putting to much blame on him, he has had his mind made up for a while now, he wants(and wanted) to be traded. It’s the Magic front office that has been unwilling to do so, they have dragged it out so long hoping he will stay.

eazy_peachesParticipantRichieRebel,
What does the Magic front office have to do with the children who have registered for his basketball youth camp?
I’m sure it is pretty disappointing for the kids who were looking forward to it. For some it could have very well been the highlight of their summer. Regardless, it’s always frustrating to see star athletes back out of these types of things. If you are healthy enough to be attending baseball games and to make other media appearances, you should be healthy enough to at least make an appearance at the youth camp set up in your name.

mikeyvthedonParticipantThat is really too bad. I know Dwight just showed up to adidas Nations (a basketball camp), though it was in Garden Grove (about an hour outside of LA). Really too bad he would not just show up to his camp, sure he could make it somehow. Obviously you want to take care of your injury, it just means so much to the kids for you to be there even one day. I remember Damon Stoudamire had a camp after his rookie season that my brother went to. It was such a big deal for the kids to see Damon, even if it was just for a while and he was not their every second of every day.
Good for Andrew Nicholson for stepping up, but I think Dwight Howard dipping on this seems like it is poor form. I am thinking he made a commitment and should honor it, would take very little effort on his part besides a cross country plane ticket (which I am guessing he can easily obtain/afford). Hope that Dwight ends up giving these kids some refunds. Hate to constantly criticize the guy, because he is a great player in so many ways and seems like a nice enough guy for the most part. Just seems to be making really bad decisions, definitely do not like this one. Might be more to the story, but it just sounds like Dwight dipping on a commitment here.

TallmanNYCParticipantYeah he doesn’t have to play at the camp. You figure he could show and give a speech and hang out for a bit. That seems like enough.
Maybe his back would tighten up during the flight and drive? Sometimes with back injuries sitting is a big problem and you can’t avoid sitting for long periods on a flight even in first class.

StarbucksSucksParticipantJust another example of an athlete who was handed the keys to the kingdom at an early age. I firmly believe that when you are supremely talented, to the point where you garner significant national attention pre-adolescence, that attention stunts the maturation process. What we are observing with Dwight is a person who probably in many ways exhibits the behavior of an early adolescent when put under stress, or challenged on his desires. The failure to exercise his opportunity at freedom (free agency) as allowed by his contract just strengthens this point. He wants to demand the respect deserving of a man, but wilts from scrutiny and obligation in a manner similar to a 15/16 year old adolescent, the age when his talents really brought him to the forefront of the national stage. Also, like many coddled adolescents he has little regard for children who are younger. When you are a real man you do the right thing for the RIGHT REASON! Leaving Orlando may or may not be the right thing, but the manner in which he has handled the entire situation is flawed and juvenile at best. At the worst, it is selfish, cowardly, and malicious. But alas, a couple rings in LA and all this is water under the bridge right? (Rhetorical). The jokes, silly nature, and behavior of a petulant child, I don’t know whether to be angered by his actions, or to pity him. Everyday that goes by he continues to pierce the veil he wears. Superman is becoming Uberfool!
