Dwayne Casey is under appreciated

people talk about the job Brad Stevens has done with a roster that is banged up, but he still has great talent on that team. On the other hand, everyone seems to forget Dwayne Casey has done a incredible job with even less talent. I'm calling it now. Raptors barely get the 8th seed in the playoffs next year and get eliminated quickly.

I’ll always have a soft spot

I’ll always have a soft spot for Casey because he was an assistant coach on the Mavericks 2011 championship team. Go back and look at that roster. It is insane they won anything!

they're regret firing him

firing Casey is the worst knee jerk reaction i've seen in a while. They just ran into a Lebron James at his best and at the worst time. I hope the raptors get stuck in mediocrity for the next 20 yrs.

exactly, i was about to write

exactly, i was about to write a post about the Toronto Raptors talking the huge mistake they've done by firing Casey, whom might be named COY after winning franchise record 59 games...

i mean it's just crazy to fire someone that just made your team win 59 games, even if the staff and the fans are very dissapointed after playoffs, you cannot blow up a team that has won those many games, because truth is that Raptors are closer to the NBA finals than to rebuilding..

that team is just one all-star away or at least one border-line all-star away from fighting to play the NBA finals, and the thing is that after winning 59 games, this team had not even reached its full potential and their cycle is still 4years from being done, so even though everyone is dissapointed with the team, they still have margin of growth as their franchise player has not even turned 29 and still has his best 4 years to come..

except for Lowry whom is 32, the rest of the players are 28 or under, plus they have a really good core of young and talented players that are under 25..so to say that their cycle is over is just crazy...

i think that if this team made just a few changes they would fight for the ECF for the next 4-5 years and i'm pretty sure they could reach 1 NBA final.

i think the Raptors sould go after a player like Otto Porter jr. whom has not made the quality jump expected in Washington plus they also have Oubre that is claiming for more minutes; Washington needs another big as Gortat is aging so may be they could arrange something like Porter jr to Toronto for Ibaka and 2019 1st pick or D.Wright/Anunoby instead.

Another bigger move could be a 3 team involved deal so the Raptors could get their home boy Wiggins whom is at his all time low value, plus Kemba Walker from Charlotte, a team that really needs to rebuild, and the Raptors sending Lowry to Minny plus their 2019 1st, and charlotte getting Teague and one of Toronto's youngs like Delon Wright.

if none of that was posible, they could then just sign M.Hezonja who could start from day one and has showned he's ready to explode as a player.

I also think that Toronto has to give more minutes to Lucas Nogueira as this guy impacts the game big time everytime he's on the floor, while Valanciunas as good as he is, he doesn't have that type of impact on defense.

but again, i think Toronto has made a huge mistake by firing Casey and i'm not sure if the franchise will recover from that...

yup

I would understand firing him if he had the type of talent houston or the warriors have, but honestly that isn't a very good team. Aside from Demar Derozan, this team is mediocore at best. Is it also Casey's fault that Jonas missed 10 WIDE open lay ups at the end of game 1 which would have given this team some energy; instead they completely fell apart after game 1.

I feel that Dwayne Casey was

I feel that Dwayne Casey was very unlucky after all the success he has brought to Toronto and unless they hired a top 3 NBA coach how anyone could really get more out of this team.

It did almost feel like a knee jerk reaction perhaps in realisation that this was their best year ever in having a chance to make the finals. With Philly's upside, the Cavs having that nice pick they could turn into something very good and especially Boston's upside with a fully fit roster etc.

Casey could land in Portland.

Casey could land in Portland. I Got a feeling Portland will cut ties with Terry Stotts in a few weeks. He still has 2 years and 10 million dollars on his contract. But the Blazers don't have any cap space, they have a late 1st round pick. They have to do something to get fans encouraged for next season.
