A while back there were some Dwayne Bacon lovers who absolutely freaked out when I suggested Buddy Hield may be a better NBA prospect.  These Bacon cheerleaders were saying Bacon would be a top lottery pick, and I got torched for suggesting he would be late first to second round material.

It’s interesting how as the season progresses, people change their tunes.  I think Bacon as a late first rounder makes sense.  Though I predict he will be second round material simply because he relies too much on his athleticism to score it and that advantage will be minimized at the next level.

I mean Buddy Hield is a late first/ early second round talent as well. If you take hi in the late lottery than your not getting lottery value. Bacon has the ability to break down his defender and get to the rim and looks to be a decent defender. Hield peek looks to be Joodie Meeks

I think he could be better than Meeks. He is a better athlete and more versatile scorer. I would say he could be a more polished Ben McLemore.

I don’t know why so many people are down on hield’s NBA potential. I guess maybe because he is older and more of a finished product. He has good quickness and athleticism, an excellent jump shot and has improved his ball-handling and playmaking ability. Plus he knows how to play off the ball. Plus he’s a high character guy by all accounts with a great work ethic. He definitely deserves lottery consideration imo.

Not sure if he projects as the better long-term prospect than bacon but he is definitely the better player right now and he is actually not even that much older.

Hield being a senior hurts his projections. Closer to his peek. Bacon’s a freshman. Neither are game changers at this point, but Bacon has more room for potential to be such.

Being 6′ 4" is whats holding Hields potential down. Is there a good NBA player 6′ 4" or under that isn’t a point guard? Off the top of my head McCollum maybe…

You really have to be a legit 6′ 6" to be an NBA 2guard. With guys like Butler, Thompson and Wiggins defending you out in space every night, 2-3 inches makes a difference. (That’s what she said) Or you better be a PG.

Hield could certainly be a productive NBA guard for years as an instant offense type off the bench and make millions of dollars doing so but beyond that role, how do you see him as an NBA player?

Now that I’m thinking about it who are the greatest NBA players 6′ 4" or under that aren’t PGs?

Joe Dumars, David Thompson (he was 6′ 4" right) but there’s gotta be more and i keep going further back in time as opposed to present day players.

Beware of the 6′ 4" scorer who’s not a natural passer. The Dion Waiters of the world and same thing with Grayson Allen when he comes out.

Brad Beal, Dwayne Wade, Monta Ellis, Oladipo, Eric Gordon just off the top of my dome. With the evolution of small ball and the increasing commodity of shooting I don’t think height is as important as years past. If you have an NBA skillset you’ll find minutes even if you are undersized.

Check Beals height and Wade is a HOFer. I’ll certainly consider them exceptions to the rule. Those others cats are always going to leave you wanting more. Gordon maybe it was the injuries, if only Oladipo could shoot and idk what is wrong with Monta but if they all only learned to be PGs. Still good players though. I’m ashamed I forgot Wade but that make 3 all time type players that fit the criteria. There has to be more folks.

Give me bacon all day over buddy. Both are going to have really good careers. Take it out of the college game and look at it from the NBA game.
Bacon- Plus side is a 3/D potential, athletic, 2/3 6’6-6’7ish scorer (close mid deep) all star and at worst he is an athletic defender who guards two positions and scores in transistion

Buddy – Plus side good scorer on all 3 levels (close mid deep), combo guard potential at worst a high volume, ball dominate 2 guard that needs the ball to be effective at all times see (dion waiters)
