What’s everyone’s thoughts on the Kevin Durant swing through move when the defender has his hand out and Durant and other swing through and get fouled, smart or distasteful?

My thoughts are if the defender is occupying that area, why can the offensive guy hit him and get a called, isn’t that similar to a charge, the defender has that space. Also I think it comes down to the NBA favoring offense more than defense, the same with the pump fake and the shooter jumping into the defender.

I do agree with the swing through being a bit rediculous but when the defender bites on the pump fake I believe that is legitimate because most of the time there jumping into the shooter.

Theoretically though the swing through and the pump fake are fouls because they are effecting the shot by hand/body contact. Veteran move in my books and kudos to the player that gets that call.

Teaches defenders to stay true in my eyes cause defense should be played more with the body that pushing them away with your hands. IMO

There are a ot of calls I don’t agree with in the NBA:  the shooter faking a shot then jumping into a defender, that swing through move, and a charge/block to decide a game.

That being said, Durant is still my favourite player.

my only complaint is thought the guy shooting is creating the contact, not the defender.

I hate when the offensive player creates the contact and is given free throws. Even when the defender jumps and moves forward a small amount, I think it should still be considered a no call when the offensive player has to go out of his way to jump forward into another player when he normally would not otherwise. Anytime the offensive player has to quickly move his body forward with the sole purpose of creating a foul against a planted opponent, it should either not be called or considered a no call, the defender has a right to be somewhere and as long as he is not either the aggressor of the act or preventing the offensive player from advancing using contact in a situation where they are moving, he should not be called for a foul.

I think that this year I have seen an inordinate amount of calls favoring the defender when he is trying to defend someone driving to the basket. As a defender, if you are not set, if you move your body (hip checking or tripping a guy), or if you purposefully change directions while moving in order to set yourself directly in the path of an offensive player without allowing yourself enough time to become planted, you should be called for the foul.

I also have a problem with players spinning with the ball while dribbling. I have seen multiple players do this, Griffin and Tyreke recently, and I cannot believe they let it slide. I understand it is cool to watch but almost every time someone does it, they have to take at least three or four quick steps and at the same time palm the ball.

^ I agree, with a pump fake the defender might jump forward a little, but the shooter if he took a normal shot would never hit him, I just don’t get it. Also guys like Billups they drive to the whole and the shot blocker is coming from behind, they’ll jump backwards to create space then hit the layup.
