Durant must really like getting denied bc unless hes bringing the ball up, hes just standing at the top of the arc not trying to shake the denial
SMH where all the Westbrook haters at now.
If Westbrook had gone down last year in the playoffs it wouldn't be as bad as it is now because they still had Harden to be a playmaker but Kevin Martin can't do that.
STILL shouldn't be taking more shots than Durant....but yeah its obvious they need him....maybe it's durant's on fault that westbrook takes shots from him though.....maybe it's just not his personality....you can see it tonight, not demanding the ball when he SHOULD
Is still very young. I was actually surprised to see all the pouting Durant was doing durin the game when his teammates didnt give him the ball. This is why I've never questioned Westbrook and his shot selection because I know Durant isn't in the place as a true leader to demand the respect he really deserves from his team. I also really didnt understand the pouting Durant was doing when guys would rebound and throw the outlet pass to a fast breaking teammate. Durant wants the ball so much but just eventually passes it off anyway. And he had 0 in the 4th it feels as though he's pressing to be too much of a playmaker. Quit trying to be lebron or everyone else expectation of what a great player should be and be your own
Kevin Martin really? Westbrook is out your the second scoring option and you go 1/10 with 3 points? Durant's great 3 quarters and Reggie Jackson the only reason this game was remotely close. Game 6 Martin needs to get like 18.
I just really don't want people to complain about Westbrook taking shots, because it shows sometimes Durant really goes through lapses where he doesn't even call for the ball!
As I said and I'll always believe it, Westbrook is just as valuable as Durant why do I feel this way, you may ask?
Here's my answer:
Westbrook(Rookie): 15.3 PPG, 5.3 APG, 4.9 RPG, 3.3 TO per
Thunder: 23-59(No playoffs)
Westbrook(2nd year): 16.1 PPG, 8.0 APG, 4.9 RPG, 3.3 TO per
Thunder: 50-32(Playoffs....8th seed)
Westbrook(3rd year): 21.9 PPG, 8.2 APG, 4.6 RPG, 3.9 TO per
Thunder: 55-27(Playoffs.....4th seed)
Westbrook(4th year): 23.6 PPG, 5.5 APG, 4.6 RPG, 3.6 TO per
Thunder: 47-19 Lockout(Playoffs........2nd seed)
Westbrook(5th year): 23.2 PPG, 7.4 APG, 5.2 RPG, 3.3 TO per
Thunder: 60-22(NO HARDEN) (Playoffs.........1 seed)
Westbrook: 20.5 PPG, 6.0 APG, 6.0 RPG, 2.3 TO per
Thunder: 2-4 Lost to Lakers first round
Westbrook: 23.8 PPG, 6.4 APG, 5.4 RPG, 4.6 TO per
Thunder: 9-8 Lost to Dallas in WCF
Westbrook: 23.1 PPG, 5.9 APG, 5.5 RPG, 2.3 TO per
Thunder: 13-7 Lost to Heat in NBA Finals
Westbrook: 24.0 PPG, 7.0 APG, 6.5 RPG, 4.0 TO per
Thunder: 2-0(Westbrook went down with injury)
As you can see as Westbrook get's better, which is every year so do the Thunder, they improved their regular season record every year and they've went deeper in the playoffs every year, proof is in the pudding man.
And if that doesn't convince you then this should:
The past 2 years in the first round WITH Westbrook the Thunder are 8-1:
Beat Denver 4-1
Beat Dallas 4-0
Had Houston down 2-0.
With Durant by himself they've already tied their first round losses over the past two years in one series.
I agree that Westbrook is a great player. However, correlation doesn't imply cause-effect.
Tempo and running an offense.
I've always said that Durant cannot run an offense and cannot control tempo. That is Westbrook's job and was Harden's job as well. Durant simply isn't able to do what guys like LeBron, Kobe, Wade, Carmelo, and other superstars have learned to do yet. He will, but he hasn't because he's always had somebody to do that for him.
The problem with this analysis is that you aren't taking into affect Durant getting better, and the team getting better as a whole. It's not like Russell Westbrook was the reason they improved win-to-win each year, it has more to do with the team getting better as a whole. But yes, Russell seems to have been the glue for this project and Durant is having a very difficult time putting the team on his back, especially with the Rockets really being under OKC's skin.
Don't look at this like Westbrook is so amazing. If OKC played folks better than Fisher and Perkins they would probably win these games very easily. Losing Westbrook hurts big time, but having a coach who still insists on playing Perkins (especially against a guy like Asik) hurts just as much.
I swear, If Durant doesn't take 40 shots a game with this squad something is wrong. No disrespect but with these guys are playing like scrubs. And Reggie Jackson needs to be put in his place, yes they need him to do a little scoring, but he needs to tone it down, Durant better bring it down every possession, and K-Mart better start raining threes otherwise it won't be long before they get sent home.
Westbrooks personality goes well with durants, he is agressive and he never backs down. He has the championship fire in him like Kobe and he shows it every night. Durant doesnt show good body language to rally his team. I dont know how to explain it, maybe he just needs to mature
