Dunk of the Year? Barnes Murders Pek
Before this season I was skeptical of how well Barnes would transition into the NBA.. I really have only caught the warriors games against the Wolves, but boy has he been impressive so far.. Particularly on the ball offensively, in college I thought he was much more passive and willing to settle for an outside jumper but he's very assertive about getting to his spot on the floor (in this case, on Pek's face)..
I don't know how many times I told people it was Roy Williams' system which made Barnes look so stiff and immobile in college, he was reduced to being a shooter but he's definitely capable of playing inside, and the greater space afforded by NBA courts helps him even more.
I league passed that game the next day and glad I did. Curry was amazing as well. And the Wolves are beasts on the boards.
Barnes is blowing me away with his rebounding. I never thought he would hit the boards that hard. Also I thought with the tougher defenders in the NBA that he would settle for even more long twos. But he isn't and he is shooting a nice percentage without taking too many shots. He definitely looks like he will develop into a legit starting SF. But the season is young. Let's see if he can keep the shooting percentages up.
I have always been big on Barnes I took a lot heat around the draft for saying I liked him more than MKG even though I thought they would both be good Barnes more Batman and MKG more Robin. I stand by my belief he will be second best player out of draft 5 years on if he stays healthy. Like I said then that system Williams runs at UNC wasn't good for him, which is why even though UNC is my team Wiggins should avoid it Roy just doesn't have good record with wings of late.
