watching dunk contests of the past on nbatv. im up to the 97 dunk contest and i have some notes.

76- dr j and david thompson were way ahead of their time.

87- mjs kiss the rim dunk is insane and probably my favorite dunk ever, i mean are you serious?

88- dominique was robbed in this contest in chicago. his last dunk, a 2 handed baseline windmill was one of the most powerful yet graceful dunks i have ever seen. mj did the free throw dunk twice and still won, i dont like that.

96- this was the worst dunk contest ever, darrell armstrong had a layup, everyone missed dunks, and brent barry won with a second free throw line dunk, cmon get creative.

97- watching kobe walk around and dunk, u could tell this dude had something different about him. doc rivers said he cant buy kobe as a tough guy because he was so skinny, i wonder if he feels the same way now, lol.

2000- we all know about this epic contest. mcgrady and francis would have won any other year but not that year with vince.

I’d like to add that Larry Nance was one of the most amazing athletes in the history of the NBA.

Richardson had about 3 lol…That reverse between the legs dunk was a clincher at that. That’s not only clutch, but it was crazy to look at in slow motion.

No love for Shawn Kemp. Hes in everybodies Top 10 but nobodies Top 5. His dunks in contest were ridiculous.

i remeber when isiah rider did the east bay funk dunk where he went in between his legs. He was the first person to go in between their legs and it just seemed crazy at the time. Charles barkley who was comentating said it was the best dunk he had ever seen and i agreed. Of course now everyone goes between the legs and it doesnt seem so special when i go back and watch isiah do it.

I remember everybody in my dorm gathering around to watch the 2000 dunk contest with Vince.  I’ve never been so excited to watch a dunk contest, and probably never will be again.
