So Far Plumlee is beasting with offensive rebounds and putbacks

the kentucky guards are penetrating at will right now and dishing.

I dont know why Coach K started the game without a Point Guard in the line up…

Grayson Allen needs to show more patience on offense. He is trying to hard to get all the way to the rack and Kentucky’s bigs are just waiting for him there. He really needs to work on his mid-range game.

Plumlee looks like a grown man playing against kids out there because he is I guess lol.

Plumlee looks like the best player on the floor.  Grayson Allen has taken the ball to the rim 3 times and has has been swatted three times.  This isn’t Bryant my friend.

He has no freaking way to change up decisions on the fly.   Multiple times he literally tried to lay the ball up like UK was going to let him take it without contesting the shot.   Like UK big men didn’t jump on some of the block shots.    It’s like he doesn’t understand when to shoot a floater.  Not to mention he’s not looking to pass once he makes the decision to go to the hole.   Multiple times the dump pass was there and he didn’t give it up.

Grayson scores 16 points in the national championship game and suddenly he’s an all-american.  Dude has a ton of talent but he’s nowhere close to being an elite player.

Grayson only gets good lift on straight drives to the rim. Usually when hes running around people and screens to get to the rim, his release point is really low on his layups…

He just has to slow down and know when to attack but its never really a good choice to attack kentucky’s frontcourt.

Grayson needs to get his head out of his @$$. Ingram needs to assert himself more. Where are the people who were dogging Plumlee and Jefferson before the season? They’re the only players for Duke who are playing like they want it. Oh and Matt Jones looks great too.

Kentucky is doing a good job of funneling drives to the middle, and swatting shots. They’re bringing a second guy over to help and that’s why their getting killed on the O boards. Driving to the cup at will. Getting transition buckets. They’re looking like the better team right now.

Several times the Dukies have droven towards kentucky players and have been called for offensive fouls even though the kentucky players have just lost their balance… thats pretty frustrating

Another observation.. It’s clear that the best players are the 3 upperclassmen. The freshman are a lot more more raw than I thought they’d be.

Murray looked good. He just flat out knows how to score and doesn’t play like a freshman. Neither skal or Ingram did much in this game. Both need a lot of work in the weight room.

Skal actually looks pretty muscular for someone so skinny. I dont think them being skinny is why they werent able to contribute much tis game though. There were alot of fouls called in this game that kept these guys on the bench throughout the game.

Skal has very low body fat %. but excess fat is actually helpful in establishing position in the paint and not get pushed around. I only watched the first 15 mins or so but marshall plumlee looked like prime shaq against these skinny dudes haha

Duke’s upperclassmen played great.  Duke’s number one ranked freshman class embarrassed themselves on national television.

I agree with your comment. For as good as duke’s upperclassmen played, they allowed way too many offensive rebounds as did kentucky in this game. Im not really worried about this game because every game this early in the season presents something to learn from.

I watched about 3/4 of the game, had money on UK lol as well as other games today but a few things  I saw:

     Duke:

Grayson Allen- I think at times he forced the issue.  Needs to develop/use a mid range game and look to create for his teammates more.  He should’ve used picks to help compensate make it easier for him to find his game tonight.  He looked over matched tonight by the length and size had on the perimeter and interior.  But hey we all have bad games, and I believe he has the tools to make it to the league.  He just needs to play with a higher IQ when he is playing against elite athletes.

Plumlee/Jefferson- Both were banging in the paint all night.  Plumlee in particularly had stretches of dominance (scored the 1st 9 points) which was kind of weird since I’ve been always clowned on him (UNC fan).  They will both be key on the boards and hustle plays all year.

Ingram- Skinny as a rail, but has a great skill set for a guard even at 6"9.  He seemed pretty smoth and was about to get his own shot when the opportunity presented itself.  Definitely needs to continue to put on weight which will come as he matures (ala KD).  Even though he didn’t have a good game statiscally, I saw the potential that everyone is talking about.

    Kentucky:

Skal- He was in foul trouble during much of the game so it was hard to a good read on him.  But from what I saw he reminded me of LaMarcus Aldridge.  Has great form on shot and has good range.  I like his length, but definitely needs to add strength.  He will be a one-and-done and I believe Coach Cal we have him playing at a high level by March.

Jamal Murray- He impressed me on both sides of the ball.  Has a nice pull-up with NBA range and always seems to make the right play.  He also had streches were he guarded Ingram who has 3-4 inches on him.  I agree with the Bradon Roy comparisons I seen on here alot.  I believe Jamal can be a legit point guard in the NBA as well as a 2.  He and Ulis complement each other very well.  Has a chance to be the best shooting guard Cal has ever coached.

Tyler Ulis-  He is the motor of this team and plays his a$$ of the whole time.  He sees the floor just as good as anyone in college basketball.  I think he will find a place in the league one day and actually contribute if given a chance.  If this guy was 6"2 or 3 he’d be the first PG taken in the draft.

The only difference is, Ulis should’ve went to another school so he was responsible for more of the scoring load.  I don’t see him getting his shots blocked often and he understands when to drive, shoot, and pass…   Chris is small for a player in the league at 6 ft, but Ulis is STILL 3 inches shorter than him… :-(…    So this means he will have a shorter leash to actually prove his worth (he gotta be efficient in a short amount of time).  Example of a short player proving his worth: I. Thomas for the Celtics…   And with Tyler’s ability to guard bigger players, I’ll still take him in the first round if I’m a team with PG issues.   Cough, Cough 76ers…
