Duke 13-14
He will be their 6th man for sure. I think that Duke has the potential to have a potent offense that will be hard to keep up with. With two quality point guards and quality forwards and shooting guards, they should push the pace and look for the three point shot.
That's if Dawkins decides to play basketball again, which is not a given.
I could see Plumlee starting as a sort of a token C to start the game. If not him then I think Hairston earned more minutes and possibly a starting job. They're gonna need his physical play to complement those skilled wings. Hairston is who I have projected to start to go along with Cook, Sulaimon, Hood and Parker.
Murphy has been a major disappointment. He was suppose to be better than his brother, Erik. After redshirting is Freshman year, he didnt improve much last season and couldnt hold off Frosh super stud Sheed for minutes at the 3 spot. He have limited basketball skills, cant shoot from outside and cant defend. He wont get minutes at Duke.
Next season Duke will have Hood starting at the 3, Dawkins back as a backup 2/3, and Semi, who is a beast but very raw. I dont see Murphy getting any burn at all. I am surprised Murphy hasn't decided to transfer yet.
On ESPN radio the college basketball podcast Andy Katzs said that Coach K will lookto add a starting caliber big through grad school transfer rule so a senior who's played else where graduated but still has a yr left to play.Andy Mates called them college free agents. Like Mays was at UK this yr
as far as alex murphy its hard to say he has been a 'dissapointment'. i mean im looking @ his stats and he only played over 20 minutes in 2 games. 1 was a 40 pt win over delaware where he had 10 and 7. The other was against MIAMI where he had 11 pts 5 rebs 5-8 fgs. 2 solid games if you ask me. Other than that he only got double digit minutes in 5 other games. He certainly did not play bad by any means. For the time that he did get(which should be an insult to him) he actually played pretty damn good. This is just a case of a kid going to the wrong school. Hes an NBA caliber player but may never get to achieve his full potential because he is being held back. Its actually funny because at the begining of this this season i really thought he had a chance to be a starter. The only thing i agree with is that he NEEDS to transfer, the sooner the better
Who was holding him back from getting playing time last season? I know it wasn't K, Sheed did beat him out for minutes at the 3 from the get go.
What makes you think he is an NBA caliber player? I know it's not his shooting, defense, basketball skills, and/or intangibles.
Next season, he will be held back by 3 players better than him at the 3.
well i mean im not going to argue about this with someone like u but yes i would assume it was coach K lol i mean hes the coach but hey who knows. I mean il admit maybe i went a lil overboard with the Nba shit but you said he underachieved...???? which is something he definitely didnt do
Someone like me? You mean someone that actually watches Duke basketball and is making a legitimate point about Murphy. Plus, I said he has been a major disappointment, I didnt say he has underachieved.
So when you want to argue something, get your quotes correct first, then back it up with some facts or at least a decent opinion.
Murph doesn't get minutes because he's atrocious on defense. If you don't play defense at Duke you don't get minutes.
He doesn't really bring much besides rebounding. Imo he's Duke version of JP Tokoto. Both extremely athletic but not much skill accompanying that athleticism.
sort of a tangent, but I wouldn't be so sure Parker is one and done. Very few Duke players do that, I can't recall one other than Austin Rivers last year, and dude is a Mormon. Makes him a wild card to me, and if he got super weird and stayed to graduate I wouldn't be all that surprised.
Duke is losing their 3 leaders from last year all to graduation, Mason Plumlee, Seth Curry and Ryan Kelly. But they will be bringing in some great talent as well. Quinn Cook and Rasheed Sulaimon will be the key returning players for the Blue Devils. Jabari Parker will most likely be a one and done player where is as well expected to be the star for Duke next year. The one area they are hurting the most is the post after losing Mason Plumlee and Ryan Kelly. Amile Jefferson is undersized for a big man and Marshall Plumlee may be a former McDonald's All-American, but I still find it being questionable if he is ready to get big minutes despite almost being 21 years old.
My projected starting 5
C Amile Jefferson
F Jabari Parker
F Rodney Hood
G Rasheed Sulaimon
G Quinn Cook
2nd Team
Marshall Plumlee
Josh Hairston
Alex Murphy
Matt Jones
Tyler Thornton
