As I’m watching LAC @ GSW, I keep hearing Mark Jackson and Jeff Vangundy say Green is a max contract player.

I think he’s a phenomenal role player, but not a star player… Am I the only one who thinks this? You’re worth what someone is willing to pay you, but I just would be surprised if he got a max contract.

To me, Draymond Green is only as good as the players around him. If he’s your 3rd or 4th best player you have a great team. But if he’s your best guy, chances are the rest of your team is trash, which will result in him being trash. He’s the ultimate role player. Then ultimate glue guy. But imo, those guys are only good if their team mates are good.

He’s a role player no doubt. Coach Kerr squeezed out the most of him this season, but I think he can still get better individually..

I think people don’t understand how max contracts really work. Because Draymond isn’t a 6 year veteran he is only eligible to sign for 25% of the cap or $9 mil. The NBA cap is somewhere between 64/66 mil this year, so the max contract offer that Dray can get is a 4/5 year deal capped at 15$ or16$ mil per year.

The new CBA doesn’t take place until 2016, but Dray is signing a contract with the current CBA. So is Drey worth 15$ in the current cap? Absolutely not, but if the cap goes up to the predicted 82$ mil like a lot of people are predicting, that contract would be about 20$ per year. So at 15$ mil a year with a 82$ cap, is Dray worth 18% of your cap space? Which in the current CBA would be about 12$ mil per year. Personally I see Dray in the tier of players like Nic Batum, Luol Deng, David West type of player and guess what…Those guys all get paid around that 10-12 million dollar threshold. So do I think Drey will get the max? Yes. Do I think he deserves it? No, but with the new CBA coming into effect you’re looking at a player who is going be overpaid for a year, and then fall into the mean for his position and worth to a team once the salary cap is raised.

Draymond Green is not a max player,he is a really good player on a really good team, with a really good role,he is not the #1 or #2 option on a championship level team,Draymond’s best bet is to stick with the Warriors and accept whatever they give him.

i would love to have him back with the warriors at a fair contract, but in a league where free agents prices are usually dictated with the most basic economic philosphy of supply and demand, i have come to terms that Draymond will be getting some serious green this off-season.

first of all, as mcgreender pointed out, there will be several teams that will factor in that a max now will not be so in a couple of years so that makes it easier to give him the max. secondly, there has been a recent trend of favoring stretch fours in the league and green is one but can also handle the ball and pass it, so he’s a very mobile stretch 4. and a very simillar player like him got a max last off-season in Chandler Parsons. third, there are several teams with cap space who will be looking at a starting PF upgrade. im thinking of teams such as the Knicks, Lakers, but the biggest threat to pry him from GSW would be Detroit.

the pistons is just such a fit in so many ways. he has roots in the local community, played high school and college ball there, so it would be like signing a home town hero. he also fits SVG’s system perfectly as a stretch four point forward type like hedo did in orlando. and SVG has the control to go and pay him as much as he wants because he’s also basketball prez. add to the fact that i think Monroe has a bigger chance at bolting as an unrestricted free agent, the pistons would have a huge gap to fill to help facilitate the defense and be a starting PF next to Drummond.
