I followed Green pretty closely while he was atr MSU. He has to be a pleasant surprise for the Warriors. He has an interested hybrid game, though not a lot of size. He was something better than a glue guy at MSU and he is filling a similar role on a good team off to a very hot start.

He’s made great strides. He was crappy 2 seasons ago as a guy who couldn’t defend or shoot but he’s really improved and has no significant gaps in his game.

It is only 6 games in but his 3 point shooting has surprised me a lot. I don’t expect it to stay at .423 all season but he is looking very comfortable with his shot. He is a player I really didn’t expect a whole lot from (especially shooting the 3), so I am very happy to see him become a key part of this GSW team.

He is an upcoming RFA so really curious to see what he gets paid. First I thought somewhere in the region of a 3 year deal worth anywhere from 12-20 mil. But then I hear Jeff Van Gundy state he thinks Green will go for 10-12 mil a year. I thought I was hearing things when he said 10-12 mil.

Fun fact: Only NBA player last year to average 14+pts, 7+rbs and .400 3% was Melo, so if he keeps it up some team throw a fair bit of money at him.

I can see him averaging 12+ pts, 7+ rebs and >35% from 3 at the end of the year. Combine that with very, very solid defense and versatility on offense (underrated passer still) and you have a player who will get paid when he becomes a RFA.

Looking at some other contracts around the league (Markief Morris get $8 million a year; T. Young $10 million; J. Green $9.5 million; Diaw $7 million; Farried $11 million) I can see some team offering him something like $28/32 million for 4 years.

Now although I like Green as a player very much, I think when you play role players (which he is) more than $7 million a year you overpay. Players like Green are the ones you should draft (4-year college guys are very suitable for this) or sign for a lot less (see Diaw’s first contract in San Antonio).

But I actually would like to see more than one year of this…  I’ll be scared to pay someone that much money when they only did this for one season…  But someone will overpay…  We know this… Especially if GS go pretty damn far…

Green was not a glue guy at MSU. He was the main scoring option, distrubiting option anf rebounder. He was the emotional leader and an absolute steal where he was drafted.

He’s playing with a lot more confidence now as opposed to earlier years and he’s really impressed me with his 3 point shooting. He’s also covering the 4 spot relatively well for his size, in the GSW vs LAC game he killed Griffin with his post defense.
